In this video, I share tips on how to customize a learning plan so you can achieve your art goals faster. After a 20+ year hiatus from drawing (and now in my fifties), I believe that it’s never too late in life to start or try something new.

Have you been an artist since childhood or did you pick it up later in life?

Hi Chloe! Love your work, and my art path it is almost the same as yours. I did not find the PDF file in the description box, as you mentioned in the video. Could you you please tell me how can I get it? Thank you so much!

@@laurasantos6126 that's cool, I love hearing where people are at in their art journey, and we're not alone. The link is in the 'RESOURCES' section, "Free PDF of my learning plan sample & template ...." just a bit more scrolling down after the description and you'll find it

I did art at school but I was led to believe that a career in art was not for me. Turns out that thousands of artists are now doing what I did, urban sketching, and I was just ahead of my time. Anyway, as they sat better late than never.

I always loved creative activities but never took art seriously until senior year in high school. I went to college (not art school) and majored in art but felt I didn't learn a lot, especially in the commercial art field. I floundered along for decades, doing art in my spare time. Now I do it for enjoyment/therapy.

artist since childhood.. and only come admitted it's something I want to take more seriously! it's my first time seeing your content and I'm totally resonating with this! I found myself rushing into fundamentals.. but actually it's my purpose that i needed to identify - kinda like life.. find my why, what and how. I look forward to hearing your other tips.

You Are Inspiring! I am almost at retirement age. I chose a career in nursing; however, always aspired to be an artist. From a young age…I always had coloring books, crayons, paints, and hobbies. They were my comfort. Over the years I popped in and out of projects…longing to improve my knowledge base but lacked the time with my busy schedule. I plan to retire in June 2024. I love all things botanical,wildlife, and landscape. They are all breathtaking to me. I wondered how to proceed with my goal…and this video laid that out nicely for me. Thank you. I look forward to your future videos. I love pen and ink style. Thank you for all the work you put into organizing this information. ❤❤

I had drawn and painted from an early age, did well at school and went to art collegé then completley dropped anything art related until I took early retirement. It feels strange that I was trained to use the GROW coaching model and set smart goals for others but, until your video, did not think to apply it to my rediscovery of an old passion. Thanks again Chloe!

True! There's an old expression in French that translates something like: "the cobbler's children run around barefoot" ... essentially meaning that we offer our best skills to others yet rarely to ourselves.

Having a plan and some sort of structure with self-discipline seems the best way to reach your goal. Back in my days of college age naivete, I thought it would all just fall into place once I got my degree. Oh, boy.... 🙄

So happy to hear! Often, we have all the knowledge we need, it's just getting feedback on how to organize the information in a way that makes the most sense for where we're at in that moment in time/life. At least, that's how I felt when I wrote the script for this video, organizing thoughts in a sequential way.

If you don't mind navigating down to the description, there is a Blog article with additional info and links to everything, if the PDF is not in the description. Sometimes it's hard to find the description text on a mobile or tablet... look for 3 dots by the title.

Thanks, Chloe. That is very helpful. As it happens I am looking at distant learning arts courses with the Open College of the Arts here in the UK. They do a number of arts course at foundation level but I am taking a look at either drawing or illustration. There is even the opportunity to take it up to degree level if I wish.

I'm constantly trying not to compare my knowledge and skill to my heros. It always leads to crushing self doubt and giving up for weeks at a time. Do you have this issue? If so, how do you overcome it?
@longstrideillustration
@longstrideillustration Год назад
I can relate to what you're saying. For years I didn't even practice (25 years!) from discouragement of not being able to produce a graphic novel the way I envisioned (I wanted to draw like Grzegorz Rosiński). Now, I aim to focus on only a few fundamentals at the time as I improve those skills and build my visual/mental library. I then move on to the next skill when the execution of each fundamental becomes more natural.
@juicedgoose
@juicedgoose Год назад
@@longstrideillustration Many thanks for your answer. I've written it down and stuck it on the wall next to my desk for the next confidence crisis🤣 Related to the confidence issue I've also fallen into the trap of watching too many RU-vid videos and getting too far ahead of myself, which only leads to overload and confusion. Your channel is exactly what I needed to find, just when it needed to be found. You're a great teacher.
