I’ve been writing for years and I want to earn an income as a side hustle. I’m a fiction writer, and my categories are fantasy, horror, erotica, and romance. I’m currently working on a horror series. It’s called Sharon’s nightmare. It’s about a little girl who gets adopted by a retired military officer who hides a terrible secret. You’re video is so helpful to someone like me. Writing has been my passion for a very long time. Thank you for your video ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm trying to learn about the methods of getting a book made in 2021... the marketing software and tools I've got - I share those tools in my about page on here.
Rachel, I've watched literally TONS of RU-vid videos on self-publishing in the effort to learn and I have to say that you are the MOST direct and well spoken presenter I've heard yet. You seem like an extremely professional person and it's appreciated.
I think it would be a proper video to share this. A year ago I was making my first steps in the KDP business. I've started like a lot of other people with some lined journals most of which didn't sell. I then switched to low-content books in the education niche and several months later some of them took off. By the end of 2020 I have managed to make KDP my main source of income. In absolute numbers they're not that high and probably wouldn't count as great by European or American standards but in Russia where I live they are pretty good. Very much looking forward to 2021. Once again I'd like to thank you Rachel for your work! It's been of great value for me from the start!
I haven't produced a book yet, and this is the kind of information that will help me stick with it for the long term. I had a concern that the space was oversaturated. But what you said puts that aside. Most people won't stick with it. Thank you for generously sharing what you've learned!
Perfectionism is a big problem for me. I am just starting off and have spent 3 days making a notebook cover. Nearly 2 weeks making a journal. I am making everything from scratch, no templates or anything. I am concerned that my perfectionism is going to affect me getting some products out and making any money out of this. I just dont want to throw up hundreds of below average books. But I want to be more productive.
The key word in your statement is, "I am just starting off." Give yourself some grace as you've begun. You don't start anything being perfect and completely confident. You're also making everything from scratch! Of course it will take longer. Don't be so hard on yourself.
I completely agree with The JemmaGrl's comment! When you're just starting out things are going to take a LOT longer. That's to be expected! You're right to want to create quality books, so take all the time you need while you're getting the hang of things. Once you've put a few books books out there you'll be able to streamline your system and get things out there a little quicker. The main thing is to make sure you're not letting your perfectionism keep you from publishing your books because they're "not good enough" yet. Don't let them sit unpublished because you're unsure if you've "got it right". Once you feel mostly happy with your product, get it out there! And then tweak as needed. You've got this!
Why cant I used a website linked to my social media bio... and work with micro influencers to create traffic or focus on creating content now and again. For the long game. The funnel system I use is free with hosting... well it was free when I wrote this. If you want to use that marketing platform I've left the link in my about page on here
This video is right on time for me. I learned about low-content publishing last summer. I have been journaling for years and was inspired to create some journals and planners. That creative spirit has ended but I would like to teach people how to journal. Steps 4 & 5 were really helpful. Thank you Rachel.
So glad you found it useful, Ella! Sounds like you're just the person to teach people how to journal; and I'm so glad you've been inspired to create some journals and planners of your own.
This is really important and valuable information, I really appreciate your generosity in sharing your knowledge and being as kind and honest as possible in your approach, I really appreciate that, at the same time your message is motivating and inspiring, thank you very much again and my best wishes for you Rachel and yours, cordial greetings from Uruguay.
What a great video! Finally someone that tells it as it is! This is a business that you need to nurture constantly. There’s no shortcuts to fast money. Quality over quantity is a must! Nice to see you’re back.
Thank you for the sheer honesty about low-content book publishing! I got here after watching a quite popular millennial's enticing "make 1000s a month" video on this kind of selling on amazon that made it entirely look like it's as easy as 1,2,3 then earn right away! No disclaimers, and that may mislead those who urgently need income and are interested in designing books and the likes. Thank you also for the genuine delivery in clear video and audio quality. God bless! ✨
I'm simply grateful that I'm fluid in Computer use, when some other people are not? These businesses are amazing as Passive income alright! ❤For a person like me, Disabled with limited mobilty. I want to live my best Quality life possible!
here here , I really hear you .I have MS with limited mobility so this has been a really great find .I recently bought Rachels course and its very concise and to the point .best wishes , Kathryn
I’ve been using ads to no avail. 😕 I had some success in 4th qtr, but not much. Recently, I ran an ad for one of my books and got 1 sell. 😳 But I think you’re right, I need to take the loss and go for the long haul. You’ve also encouraged me to get busy mastering my marketing, nurturing my assets, and being CONSISTENT. Great stuff! Thanks, Rachel! 👍🎯
Ads are definitely tricky and take some time to master. This is why in the very beginning it's best to focus on getting the rest of the process down first, and then introducing ads once you've been able to generate some organic sales. I'm glad you're feeling encouraged to keep going; keep me posted on your progress!
I entered the realm of self-publishing low content books and I appreciate your vids, Rachel. Very helpful and informative. Helps me fine-tune, tweak and improve on creating quality stuff. A definite learning curve!
I have been inspired with some great ideas for original, low-content books. My struggle is to not try to eat the elephant in one, whole bite - but maybe work on a few different topics at one time to keep myself engaged. I'm really hoping that I have the right idea and that it will pay off in the next several months. I have always had an interest in creating books of some kind - since I was a kid - so this feels so right for me!
I love your analogy of eating the elephant in one whole bite! Such a funny visual! It's definitely important to keep yourself engaged; just don't spread yourself too thin across too many topics so that you get bogged down and don't actually publish anything. You won't know if you have the right idea until you hit that publish button and see what happens. You'll win some and you'll lose some, but you'll learn something new each and every time. Have fun with it, experiment, and keep me posted on your progress!
I'm just about to start out in low content items, this is the second video of yours I've watched, and two others from another RU-vidr... Thank you for your valuable advice!
I'm a newbie. Started in January 2021. Im happy I stumble on your content. It's very motivational. An eye opener. I think I leveled up after viewing the video. Lol Thanks
I am so glad I found you! Starting out with a non fiction book on getting featured in the media. And I have learned so much so far and I'm only one month in. I have not been showing up regularly as I had so many delays that were out of my control. But, I've learned so much in this process so far and I'm so excited to go into this in a major way.
Excellent video Rachel amen. I love and resonate with this layered structure. It's amazing how myself and many others have spent many years trying to put the cart before the horse! Mindset amen! Ohh, and patience! Realistic patience. Very well said. I learn everyday for sure... Thanks, James, Rescue Kitty😺 & Snowvan!
I've only just gotten started. My philosophy is to never let perfection be the enemy of progress. I have ten books that I put on KDP as I learned to make them, but only three are love so far. I'm still trying to find my niche. But I've decided this is the direction I'm going with my side hustle.
I've been Isolated for like 9 years now, and my creative design talent has flourished big time! Plus I want to create my own Merch for my Paloma Healing Spa brand.
It is so refreshing watching your vids. It's easy to understand and follow. You display a very honest demeanor. I am new to the publishing arena. I have looked on a few others over the passed weeks but finds yours to be very trustworthy.
I've watched a few low-content publishing videos and yours is by far the most helpful one. Thank you for all these great actionable tips and for your honesty.
Ohhhh..I really believe in myself..Im very good with design and Graphic Arts as I've learned this all in my really Boring times, incl in 2020😜I've working on building my brand for years? I consider myself a Goldmine🧡 I do these designs in 10 min. now. I'm starting this as my 2nd income stream..there's still 3-4 more incomes to go. Thanx❤
I have to wonder how effective email lists are these days. Does anyone actually read them? I find myself resenting unsolicited emails and am less likely to revisit/repurchase when I get them. I see it as "hey, you bought a thing, let me now nag you endlessly to buy more" and it's just....rude and disrespectful. I don't like being treated that way. Imagine if you bought a book from your local bookstore and the clerk chased you down the street yelling out additional titles and authors you might like. It doesn't feel much different than being email marketed after a purchase.
Effective email lists are effective. Instead of imagining the store clerk chasing you down the street, a good store clerk will establish a relationship with you and mention items that may make your life better. A well timed email from someone you have had a good buying experience with before is like an unexpected treat on a bad day. Bad, crappy emails that are completely focused on the needs of the store are not effective. As with most things, there are good and bad examples.
@@RachelHarrisonSund I have a question please, When I upload a book on kindle ,it becomes very bad many things are missing some words disappear and so on . I tried to convert into mob but it is still the same. So I failed to upload any book. I hope you see my question and help me. Thanks
Rachel, thank you so much for your channel and generous, honest guidance! Subscribed! I am a total beginner regarding low content self published books and have some total beginner questions! It seems like most or all low content books get printed and shipped out in a physical form to the buyers. How does the printing work; how does one get our books printed? Is it sort of an on-demand model (as opposed to having a lot of inventory that may or may not sell)? Thank you and best wishes to everyone here working on their books!
Are you talking about the KDP books? Your video seems like what your talking about has much more involved. I'm confused here. Also I don't see any link about Dave?
I appreciate the realistic approach. I took early retirement (US). As such if I make over a certain amount I will lose part of my Social Security until I reach my full retirement age. A couple of years to go for that. So something that will bring in some side money and build over time seems like a good idea.
Not my experience so far but I heard before that a change in your pricing could send your book through a mini review where things which went through before could send your book back to draft. Let's put some Roundup on all those organic sales!
I have interest to start this business so I’m searching and you are awesome. Thank you for your videos. I want to start the business in a good way and not messing with anyone. Do the right thing you’re helping a lot to get the information.🤩 Tânia
I’ve submitted several books and its been several days and they are still in review. I had one come back just because I needed to fix the cover sizing, but why is it taking so long? I’m really excited to get my books published because I worked really hard on them and I just wish I knew if there was a problem so I can fix it.
My Goal is doing $10,000. a month with diversified Digital created own Deigned products. Plus I'm going to move back to my Hometown, Miami which is Not cheap to live there!
Thank you rachel! What is your method for collecting emails on your books? With youtube it makes sense but ... do you put a CTA or signup prompt on your book sales pages? Ty!
You're welcome! The best way to collect email addresses is to offer a freebie from within your book. You can place a URL to your freebie in the front of the book, the customer will go to your landing page and enter their email address to download the freebie.
How do I promote my very first book if I have no email lists, blogs or youtube channels ongoing? Literally started off with a low content book and wondering how to get it higher up on Amazon search.
One thing I haven't been able to find an answer to is copyright pages. I'm certain not everyone is actually going through the process of getting a copyright on a low content, public domain books. However, I see a lot of tutorials that include a copyright page. Are people just adding that even though they don't actually have a copyright? How does that work? I'm just getting started and just learned about this. I'm pretty skilled with design and computers and have a lot of ideas for unique content.
If you are the author of the original work (cover and interior design) and have checked that the licensing on any images or fonts used are in the public domain or you have been given license to use them in your work, then you automatically own the copyright in that work.
Great hairdo, Rachel!! You're always refering to "low content". What then is "high content" on the other hand? A novel or a scientific book with all the bells and whistles? Isn't the technical process the same?
Thanks! This is my too-busy-to-actually-do-my-hair hairdo. 😂 As you say, "high-content" would be a novel, nonfiction book-basically any type of book with lots of text and/or imagery.
@@RachelHarrisonSund Hi Rachel, truth to be told I only wrote you this to get a hopefully nice response. I need good experiences to improve my English language-skills (I am German). And your very funny answer definitely was such a good experience - it did the trick! Thanks for that! I am motivated again to learn grammar and vocabulary. Besides that I can't help myself to tell you, that I have another strategy than you. I intend to publish "high content": a well conceived/elaborated scientific approach to tame rigid capitalism (and not by socialism or something obsolete like that). I don't think creating low content such as calendars, notebooks etc. should be regarded as a means to address the "daily struggle of/for(?) survival". Shouldn't that be rather kind of a hobby? However what I read on your site by some of your "clients" sounds rather desperate (in a nutshell: "Oh, this 'low-content'- market is getting increasingly competitive - how frightening!") Our future should offer some better perspectives, don't you agree? That's why I personally prefer "high content" as a strategy. Besides that you are a "Master of Understatement" as far as your hairdo is concerned.😉
I am interested in the Low Content Academy, are there different level to the course or is the one stated above the complete course? You really inspire me, thank you.
I have a question. Like your videos but I'm confused. Take coloring books or guest registers for example. Amazon KDP only prints perfect-bound books. Would you want a coloring book or a guest book to lay flat or open? I can't imagine coloring in a book with a perfect binding or having to open up the book every time I go to sign in at a wedding. Do items like this sell with perfect bindings?
Hello, thank you for the video. I just started creating low-content books. I have been using Book Bolt to design the cover and interior. My question is when I upload the journal, notebook etc. should I put my name as the author? Previously I just listed Notebook if that’s what I created but it was rejected by Amazon. The author field is required on Amazon KDP.
Do you advertise for your low content books? How does a book get seen when there are 1,000 of books out there? Can you direct me to a video on this or answer this for me? I have fear and doubt because my book could be amazing but if no one sees it, how does it sell? Is there a "buy box" strategy? Thank you!!!
Can you make journals any number of pages or is there a standard? I see 120 pages a lot but does that mean you upload 60 pages and it automatically shows double sided or ?? I want a 200 page journal so do I upload 100? I'm a little confused 😁 thank you!
Hi there. Thank you so much for your videos! I am wanting to make low content books using images from Canva Pro. It looks like you pay $1.00 for a one-time use licence agreement and you can use it for commercial use. I'm a bit hesitant to upload my book because I just want to make sure that I am following all the correct license agreements.
I use my very popular Pinterest page to advertise my videos! And it has helped alot..I also have a business type Instagram with 1000 followers as Paloma Healing Spa..(just waiting to create Spa merch directed towards my brand.)
1-I am downloading pictures with high resolution for my book's cover but when I get in Amazon I find them with bad quality! 2-If I upload my cover with a high size 100 mega or 10 mega will this make a change? Thank You
Sometimes the quality of the preview image isn't that great. Make sure you're uploading a print quality PDF at 300 dpi. It's not the file size itself that will make a difference, it's the resolution.
@@RachelHarrisonSund Hi Rachel ... love your channel. :) Do you know if Canva prints its PDF's at 300dpi? And if not, is it that photoshop (or similar beast) is the only way to achieve this resolution?
Hi Rachel, do you think Amazon in the near future will reward publishers for bringing customers to Amazon rather than solely relying on Amazon's audience? If so, I can see social media and other outside sources playing a major role. What do you think?
