Hi Margreth 😁! This beginner tutorial is right up my street! I have been wanting to do a junk journal but keeping it to the minimum of techniques for my first try…just to get my feet wet so to speak instead of going for a plunge into the ocean 😂😂😂! Your instructions were wonderful on ideas for using for pages and making embellishments and very fun! I have made buttons before with collage medium and napkins just like you shared and they are so pretty and fun. Thanks so much and I know there are many of us that really needed this kind of help. That you, thank you, thank you! Bringing the journals back to the ground with basics. That's what is the most fun. We don't need all those digitals and new foil machines, sticker creators, cutters, etc. It's all become so commercialized, that I feel sorry for the new beginners. No wonder they're confused. I don't enjoy watching anymore. So, KUDOS to you for recognizing what's really fun and important to know! ❤

A few months ago I was cleaning out my desk and found a box of notecards with beautiful art on the front. Since they'd been there for years it was obvious that I was never going to use them. I did exactly what you did here and turned them into little notebooks to give to my friends using random leftovers of scrapbook paper as the pages. I had never done the pamphlet stitch binding and was scared to death - but when I got done with the first one I thought "Well, THAT was easier than I thought." And since the notecards came with envelopes, I could package each as a little gift in its own envelope. They were a hit. I have lots and lots of pretty papers and embellishments from my cardmaking, but these little "leftover" books are one of my favorite things.

If you have a printer and you want pretty papers, there are all kinds of digital papers on Ko-fi that are free or very cheap. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Your thrift stores and charity shop have tons of wonderful books for cheap. My county library has a used book store inside the library and the books are very cheap or better yet, sometimes free. A dollar can buy you a cool book to get started.

Yes make ephemera for this journal... I started using both Bear glue and AGG as they a bit different but Bear is a nice glue for moving stuff around... thx doe a ding as I now have large bottles of both... ahhh what a hobby....! Made 2 XXL journals from Amazon packing. It's like a monster. Warmest.

I am very much a newbie, with 2 very simple journals under my belt. With both, sewing in the signature didn't go so well, so thank you so much for the idea with the 'clamping'...duh! Also, haven't made a closure yet, because they all seemed to require tools I don't have. Buttons and elastic - I can do that! Also thank you for encouraging us to truly use what we have, and what might otherwise be discarded. I am very much looking forward to the ephemera-making. Will try the journal from the card, but would also like to see one made from something more substantial, like some cardboard packaging...unless you have already done that? This is my first comment, and I just subscribed. I have watched a number of your videos before, and the results are always beautiful, but I so appreciate the pared-down approach...truly anyone should feel like they can give this one a try! Yes please to more budget videos! I love printables and use tons of them, but I like really junky journals and run out of ideas. I learned how to make altered envelopes from you and they are some of my favorite pieces to add to my journals.

If you don't have jewelry, you can make beads from any scrapbook paper. All you need is paper, glue, scissors, and anything tiny like the handle of a tiny paint brush. Just look it up on tube on how to do it. It's so easy and it's fun.

How do I begin, I'm so confused, insecure when it comes to JJs. I began with Mixed Media which was difficult in the beginning, but not like this. I'm either too old lol, to learn all the things in this theme, or I don't trust myself & that scares me. I have a studio filled with items/junk & a computer with digital kits. What/how should I use as cover, how do I make the signatures? Is that just plain paper that I put all the clusters/ephemera etc that you're doing & saving? My brain is so full, so I don't know where to begin. I began making 1 - gluing paper together into a cover - (Watched Pink Monarch August easy journal) - not done yet. I like watch your videos, waiting for me to dare & to get some mojo. Easier to learn & dare when I was younger. Thanx Margareth for sharing❤ - appreciate you so much! Lia/Sweden

ha, wat leuk weer! echt junk journalen...ja daar begint het mee en dan ga je op zoek in je huis , en bij de buren...en dan verzamelen. en je gooit haast geen papier meer wegen je kunt alles gebruiken .zo leuk dit!dus ik zou je aanraden om juist ook te laten zien wat voor nep inkt je kunt gebruiken , wat voor hardware je uit je keukenla en naaikist kan gebruiken. en wat plaatjes uit boeken en tijdschriften kunt gebruiken en oude postzegels en zo...ach er is zoveel mogelijk! dank je wel weer voor dit echte ouderwetse junkjournalen...🤗😘😊

Thank you! This is so wonderfully inspirational! I’ve been a card and ATC maker for years and have lots of goodies but have yet to make a journal of any kind. I love this because it makes it cheap, everybody loves a deal and it’s RRR friendly which is a bonus. Also because it’s beginner friendly it makes it a lot less intimidating which is a big thing for me and I know many crafters feel the same. Yes ephemera, please. There are a lot of sites that offer free images so if you have a colour printer ( unfortunately I no longer do) and copy paper you can make tons of it! I don’t know if this is allowed here but the graphics fairy has thousands of free vintage images!

I am a JJ virgin. Watched a gazillion videos on how to but never made one. I did make a Gretchen, but that was basically copying your videos. When you made Victoria, I bought a reduced cushion cover, and finally, 4 weeks ago I made a lovely JJ cover using an Amazon envelope and the cushion cover material. So far, so good. The problem is that every time you post a new project I want to do that one! 😊😂 So I've done step 2 of this project...I need to go gathering. TFS❤

I loved this. I've been lurking and binge watching for months but haven't yet attempted a journal but having watched this I actually feel that I could and that I want to. What could possibly go wrong? As Margreth says, it's only paper. And I actually have quite a good stock, thanks to Margreths generous freebies. I really need help with the decorating though. I don't feel I have "an eye" for it or any natural talent. I copy a lot. Thanks for a great tutorial.

Another thing I do is flip thru magazines for pictures but also ads make neat labels and I cut out words that I like to glue on the page or ephemera. Dry tea bags and Empty and open up then they can be used to cover white pages instead of coffee dying. Just a thought.

A lot of people don't think about making their own pattern paper by using stamps and inks on junk paper. You don't need to buy pattern paper. Make your own!

The biggest problem that I have after assembling my journal is how to fill the pages aka decorating. I do have the supplies but not always the creativity. Can you help?
