I absolutely love this video. And was so glad when u mentioned you should take some time, even years to do the research on starting your own handmade business!!!! I feel like I've been in the thought process for some time and now starting to really do some research on it. So I would LOVE more videos like this one! Thank you again!!!
I’d love to hear more tips and tricks to starting to sell handmade items! I’ve been “crafting” as a hobby my whole life ! Now I’ve been researching day and night in how to “make money” off my hobby! I’d like to know more about the website startup !
So I just got hired as a social media manager for a local small business craft store. This was a great video to help me figure out how to promote them thank you!!!
great tips especially regarding trade marks. These were more comprehensive than other vids I've watched about entrepreneur-ing. In the US trademarks are registered with the USPTO (patent and trademark office) typically but can also be registered with some states so check both. People may want to check trade names too, which is different than an trade mark. In the States, trade names can be registered with the Secretary of State for each state or similar entity (they aren't called secretary of state in every state i.e some are called department etc but Googling secretary of state and the state name should pull it up) or with the county clerks office. It depends on the state you live in as to where it is registered. You can name your business one thing and then have different trade names for the different products you sell to differentiate them if they aren't related products etc
I would like to add that anyone considering this type of business, or any other for that matter, needs to understand all the upfront costs and how long it can take before they start to generate sales and then see a profit. I've seen so many businesses jump in to a market without doing their homework...only to turn around and close their businesses within six to 12 months, because they didn't factor in how much it would cost to keep the business going before sales and profit took hold (the general rule of thumb, and depending upon the type of business, is to plan on floating operations yourself for about two years).
Do make more videos like this! I subscribed after I watched your video on 10 crafts to sell. I've been crocheting Christmas stockings and I'd like to sell them. Thanks for your advice.
Macrame bags and jumars etc making takes more time without assistants. If there is number of customers wants same product. What will I do. Because macrame craft making artists are very rare. I want to start a macrame business.but have no idea
I sew wallets and stuff here in edmonton and can't sell anything to save my life. I guess i just dont know how to market myself to a point i am just frustrated now and gave up.
Do you feel that buying an online course for handmade items is definitely needed? The ones I’ve been interested in range from $1,000- $2,000. I know the one I’m mostly interested in is legitimate because I purchased a course but quickly realized it wasn’t the one I intended to buy. It costs 1,000 and I did receive a refund for it.
