Great video with some really helpful tips! Definitely wise to buy some shorter #'d parallels if you're going longer term for value with your collection!
I have been collecting forty-five years and the hobby has changed from the innocence of collecting to card manufacturers manipulating the hobby by producing way too much of everything, too much product with insane pack and box prices. I have no interest in owning Bedard as I would rather put those funds elsewhere. I enjoy collecting hockey most because it seems there are more "pure collectors" in this sport where other sports the focus is on flipping and money. I have changed my collecting focus several times and I am in a happy place with my collecting goals and enjoy the hell out of my cards and the great community and the card channels like this.
Super glad to hear you're enjoying collecting again! I think the hobby is moving back towards a nice place with some of the PURE flippers who are only in it for money are slowly getting weened out. I won't lie that I enjoy both, collecting and flipping. I look at sports cards from the point of view that I enjoy having them to look at, but also I can't take them with me when I go so I better be sure I can sustain my hobby via my hobby and hopefully leave my family something nice when I do eventually kick the can. But everyone is different and for me, there's room for all types as long as they're friendly! 🍻
@@flippinoutsc I never quit collecting. Growing up, there was something satisfying about completing a run and it was quite inexpensive and quite simple (Rick Martin, Perreault, Hawerchuk, LaFontaine, Lemieux were the five I focused on most then ) and now, Crosby has over 9,100 different produced cards and it makes it an impossible (and super pricey) task to duplicate that, so you just buy what you like and overtime, you have a very nice collection. It also helps that I am a Jeff Skinner super collector and nobody cares about collecting him. Ha.
@@LetsStormTheTeaCupRide very fair! Completing every card of a single player is practically impossible, which is why achievable collecting goals are always necessary ;) That's awesome man! Would love to see the Skinner collection one of these days!
Thanks again for your video. I would add that I really hope TAG grading gets some traction. The slabs are beautiful and the grade is what the grade is - no human bias.
Thanks for the kind words! And I agree! I think TAG is a really cool concept that I hope gains traction in the future so we can move on from human bias as well. The wheel spinning from some companies is just too random sometimes haha
Great tips for the hobby. Once i realized how many sid and ovi i had in my collection i would concentrate on those two i have 300 sid cards which does include base and 200 plus of ovi. I also have other pc guys with not as big of collection, i just told myself i would go with what i could afford so i set my limits for money i would spend on a card in the long run im just treating it as a hobby if some of the cards that i pass down to my children are worth money bonus for then otherwise ill just invest in 401k and ira for the future. Its been a fun ride ive been collecting heavily since 06/07 and took a long break with few blaster and tins in between 2010-2020 so missed out on some big young guns but thats ok. I would like to grade a few cards eventually well see. Keep enjoying the hobby and having fun.
Don’t buy boxes and save. You don’t need to buy the latest product of Allure or Stature, or even Ultimate. If you’re buying one box of each, just stop, and save. Forget the IG clicks, forget the YT views because you want to open the box, or you want to be in the “in” crowd. Don’t take influencers seriously, and watch them for entertainment only. Hockey boxes have been dropping, even the 2015-16 boxes have gone down. Be patient.
Agreed! Boxes are a losing battle. Only very very few will be able to make their money back and even less than that can make money from hitting something massive. Wait for the gamblers to rip and do their thing and then buy the cards you like after.
Yeah yeah my early 90s collection...is worthless. I have several #/249 bedard cards that shockingly are less than his massively produced YGs....Hopefully that changes. Other good stuff is epack is very overpriced and only use it for exclusive rewards
Ya, it can be tough. Gotta find what the people want. The Young Guns for Bedard is overproduced and seems to be quite expensive for how many exist, but the popularity of the card and the set are seemingly holding it up… for now. Give it time and maybe the /249 will be worth more. However, if they’re an unknown and not widely collected set, they may never reach the full potential you would like. Only time will tell. And ePack products are overpriced. I don’t use ePack to rip (in general I just don’t rip barely at all) I just like ePack for the exclusive parallels and achievements. They can be super fun. It’s also great for those who love the hobby but may not be living in Canada/USA.
