@@AndyBirdBuilds I have other large projects projects to finish up first. I grew up working with wood before cnc was a thing! My grandfather was a carpenter and showed me a lot about it.
Enjoyed watching you and Matt (731 Woodworks) last night. I actually was surprised to hear him say you were from Kentucky. Really glad to hear you had a youtube channel, I subscribed. Been watching Matt for some time and really enjoy his content. I'm actually from Glasgow. Thanks for the 5 summer projects. Will continue to watch. Steak plates, & tiki bottle opener
Wow. Tough call. Plates and coasters spring to the top for me at the moment. I need to work with my first STL file before getting enthused about those. Ask me again in a couple months! ;-)
Knowing me I'd have guests over and some shmuck would disembowel himself with the feather of the bottle opener that sticks out from the deck post. Just my luck
Hey Andy. I see that you are screwing your stock down instead of using the T-tracks. I screw my stock down too usually I and keep thinking that I should make a T-Track clamp system to improve on that but I'm not going to bother if I am going to end up screwing the stock down anyway! Do you find that the T-Track clamps let the work move too easily? I would like to know why you aren't using yours. Thanks much. Your videos are very inspiring to me.
Hay Andy, I love your videos. Have you ever considered giving live hands on training? I have a Shapeoko 4 Pro and I have a difficult time trying rto find any type of training
Unless you buy your stock premade to flat and size, these creation times are quite low. It takes me about 2 hours to get some rough cut wood to final dimension, not to mention design and cam. Granted I don't have a jointer or planer which would considerably speed up the process. For a simple 220x120x20mm wood block with vcarve inlay took 3 days (on my old cnc) for the first one, and now it takes me 8 hours (on my new cnc). I've improved work holding with a machine vise, reduced number of tool chances, the old cnc often crashed the controller, or starting the spindle caused the z axis to run wild. I spend 2 hours designing and cam, 2 hours machining and remIng 4 hours on sanding, glueing and finishing. It's a hobby for me but I like to optimise my spare time as much as possible. Can't imagine making stuff for sale and being profitable or pricing it out of range and out of the market. I'd really need to step up my efficiency. Kidos to you and others who can work that efficiently!
I like the steak plates. Is that really a thing? Never heard of it before. So I also have a Shapeoko and that bowl bit. What do I tell the CNC it is so I can use it? The tiki bottle opener is cool as hell also!
I didn't know they were a thing either. You can add it as a new tool in the Carbide Create tool library. Just enter the specifications it ask for. I think Carbide 3D has a video on how to do that on their channel
