I purchased the guitar course and i am very happy with it. Tons of inormation but it's not just thrown at you. You move at your own pace and the videos are well done and easy to follow. It's worth every penny you pay for it. You won't be disappointed. Plus you know he has endless guitar knowledge of course your gonna learn from him.

This is about the closest to an acoustic guitar review that I’ve seen you do. What’s wrong with reviewing some unknown acoustic brands. PRS vs Zager 🤷🏻‍♂️

the 335 is the ultimate rock machine for studio use. standing in front of a cranked amp makes the top vibrate soooo well, and you can get some really cool feedback. they are my fav of all guitars for that reason alone. i miss the one i had, i so want another one.

I got an 80’s model 335-S Custom Firebrand from CME a couple years ago. It spoke to me there in the shop, when I was in CHI for a visit. Told myself I wasn’t gonna buy an instrument. THEN... So...got it home to SAT plugged it in A/B w/my other instruments. WOW! I experienced the same rush of POWER from the Dirty Fingers pickups as you described.

Yep! Like you were saying, “Pro” models were around for just those few years - and it must have been a special designation for several Gibson models, at that time. As a very ambitious 18-year-old in ’79, I scraped together my pennies and ordered a new ’79 LP Deluxe in Tobacco Sunburst from a local dealer, that year. He wanted to sell me one that he had in stock, that arrived that day - A Les Paul “Pro” Deluxe - which was actually an LP Deluxe with P90’s, an ebony fingerboard - and this particular one had a gold top. (Yep, it had “Pro” on the truss rod cover - only in “script” lettering.) However, I just *had* to have an LP in Tobacco Sunburst - no substitutions! Back then, no internet, so about the only source of information we had was the Gibson catalogs. I didn’t even realize until after I took delivery that an LP Deluxe had “Mini” Humbuckers! At 1979 prices - the LP Deluxe retailed at $650. For $50 more, I could have gotten an LP Standard with the full-sized Humbuckers. (Seemed like the different models moved “up” in $50 increments, at that time.) And - 18-year-olds do strange things. This is another story, but - I had a Luthier route the body on my new LP Deluxe, and install a set of Dimarzio Super Distortions - which, as we know, look amazingly like those ‘79 Gibson T-Tops. And it all worked out good! I now have a ’79 LP that looks nearly *identical* to your ’79 KM - complete with the extra-wide binding in the cutout, the oversized headstock (with the “connected” Gibson logo from that time, and the “closed” lettering), the valute, the slim neck, the Grover tuners, and the same Norlin-era volume and tone knobs. The main difference - It was made in the Nashville plant, on March 26, 1979 - and, it has a one-piece top. Okay, I’m done babbling!

Oooh, Dirty Finger Pickups. That's the same pickup Tom Delonge used in his signature ES333. I remember reading an interview a long time ago where he mentioned that Gibson discontinued them because they were a bit too hot for the time, but they sounded perfect for his needs. :)

Great tune at the beginning. Semi hollows and hollow bodies have a different sounding overdriven tone. It works well with shoe gaze type stuff. Effects just have a different flavor with the resonance of hollow/semi hollow bodies. I’d cover the pick ups. That’s awesome the guitars are back together again!

I have a cheap 335 clone that I rebuilt with all new parts. Love it. My pride and joy is the 1982 Les Paul Custom Silverburst. I need to play it more often! The pickups on it are slightly microphonic which is something I have become more sensitive to since I only play in my small room. Won’t make any changes though. Leaving that one stock. I have gotten the mod bug so much lately that I have been rebuilding more than actually playing.

Cool Kalamazoo story! That might explain the similar beautiful grain in both fretboards. Wow! I must've had GAS pains this afternoon since I ordered a Ibanez AS73FM semi-hollowbody, a Vox Mini3 G2 practice amp, and after digging into cases, the Ibanez case from Sweetwater (GC-MF had a demo case for about five bucks less, but I'll take the bag of candy for five dollars, Alex"). As long as I've started learning acoustic (3) guitars, might as well add an electric, right? Variety is the spice of life! Peppermint mocha Monday, with snow... Stay cool!

Thanx Robert . this is a great vid . Im in the closet on the 335 for some reason . I think many players are , because they are so complete . they have everything and do everything well . all I have ever played is Les Pauls and Telecasters . also thank you for the statement that you will never get rid of them . more players should get that bond with their instruments . I have watched this 3 times it sounds so good . have a nice day .

I've seen those pickups in some Les Pauls built in the 70's, they are unique and it's cool to have something totally different. The fretboard on your guitar is a rich color, almost has a red tint to it.

Kalamazoo made some nice guitars when Norlin would enable them to. I like a maple neck, instead of a mahogany one, anyway. These were the Gibsons that were new when I was a young beginning live player, and we were all stuck on SuperStrats and whammy bars.

Robert. Wanted to say I am a huge fan oF Es guitars .I've been playing Les pauls ,strats ,Teles, Rgs...butcwhen I got my 335 blonde..it seemed to take my playing somewhere I was missing .I just connect with the warmth , sustain , and articulation of this incredible instrument..I dig your videos brother, and btw I saw the Jam with TIMO The REVV jam and that one note you hit on the Friedman tele wasn't even a note it was like an alien other worldly squeal..totally bitchin, I kept rewinding..anyway it was one bad ass jamm.. but that one note you hit was some next level shiznit....lol...thanks for all dude..

Robert, you can measure the DC resistance of the pickups with just the guitar, a guitar cable and a multi-meter that measures DC resistance. Plug the cable into the guitar, select the neck or bridge pickup. Place the multi-meter probes at the other end of the guitar cable, one on the tip and one on the sleeve. This will tell you the DC resistance of the pickup. Switch to the other pickup to do the same. In the middle position this will not give you a meaningful value

Wow, dude, that factoid about both your gun Gibsons being made just eleven days apart - and both at Kalamazoo, no less!! So cool! That's the cool thing with vintage guitars - their stories. And that's a Ripper! We all get sentimental about our favorite Axes...and that's a reason right there that you should never, ever part with them. PS. And I thought you had traded your Les Paul to Trogly for a damn Strat! Lol! So happy you haven't lost your marbles, hahaha!

where did you run those serial numbers? I have an old SG that I'm trying to get more info on and all the sites I can find can't quite pinpoint with that much detail... is there somewhere I'm missing that I should be checking. Based on the hardware that is on it and what I can find from the serial number it appears that it is a 68-69 but I've never seen anything that can pinpoint production dates etc.
