Better recovery = more hiking
Here’s a nice little routine I did after my last big hike.
Keep in mind these are exercises I selected to help me and my personal situation but they’ll likely be applicable to you as a hiker as well!
Hip flexors/Psoas is often chronically tight and misunderstood in terms of how to lengthening it, and the stretch demonstrated lengthens the psoas in all 3 planes of motion.
ie; frontal, sagittal and transverse.
Your breathing is probably the most important part of stretching so make sure you’re breathing in through your nose! Exhaling through the mouth is fine for stretching and even preferable in some cases - especially if the stretch involves the ribcage.
The foot moves are basic fundamentals that I’ve shared in greater depth in both on my RU-vid channel and my programs…
The nasal breathing before the cold swim is a personal preference for me but depending on the temperature you may want to hyperventilate instead!
The cold dip is an essential part of my recovery now and if you have access to cold water you should definitely get friendly with it!
If you want more information on this stuff, share this reel and if it goes well I’ll make a full in depth video for RU-vid.
Big love from beautiful Northen Norway!

Great stuff. Being a fitness enthusiast, this is not discussed a lot from most distance hikers. Thank you and I enjoy all of your content

Yeah one thing I definitely do is submerge my feet/legs in cool water for a time to bring down the inflammation, then wait about an hour or so and try and get them in warm water while massaging them. Definitely gonna implement the foot/toe stretches!

So would this be a good way after a 12 hour shift on my feet? I get foot and calf cramps while sleeping
