Good video… I’d like your opinion on following points. I’ll give GM a compliment as follows Turbo “4” simpler design than 2.7 “V-6” Now for the concerns… ford F-150 “6” cylinders all the time 👍👍 GM should have kept this engine as “4” cylinders all the time no sliding cam to add complexity… also direct fuel injection “ONLY” does the design engineer feel that fouled up intake valve’s won’t be an issue ??? If this engine was “4” Cylinders all the time and at least dual fuel injection it would inspire confidence…

Love the 2020 2.7 turbo V6 on my custom 1500.The 8 speed transmission has had no issues for me. So I understand your affinity to the TurboMax 4 Cylinder 2.7l it just works. However, the twice weekly grind to the gas station is hurting my bottom line. I rarely get better than 15 MPG. (I haul my tools everywhere I go) I am waiting for the 3WT EV Silverado availability. The business tax breaks and the ultra low commercial charging rates at .03 KWh sweetens the decision to move off ICE. What I like about a spartan no thrills interior is it is easy to clean out with a leaf blower. I like my Chevy and I am glad the option to switch off ICE will be available soon. I will assume the troll magnet will stick to me with this decision to jump to BEV pick up, but the economics will over power those troll comments. Good luck to your channel.

The thing people should be worried about is the 8 speed automatic transmission that comes with this engine, I which you could get a 6 speed manual transmission or the 10 speed on the other trucks
@jeremsgarage
@jeremsgarage Год назад
I’m with you on that! I’d love a 6 or 7 speed manual trans. The 10 speed would be great too. I have read that the major issue is the torque converter in some of these trucks. Some of the shimmy and shake is related to that component. But nothing concrete. But a few people have had their torque converter replaced and it straightened up the transmission.
@karlschauff7989
@karlschauff7989 5 месяцев назад
Most of the issues wiht the 8-speed were fixed back around 2019. The biggest issue was the original formulation of the transmission fluid. The new fluid doesn't absorb moisture and change viscosity like the original did. That would cause all kinds of shift issues and torque converter shudder. The 6-speed had just as many issues until GM came out with a TSB a few years ago, identifying the torque converter failures as being caused by the transmission cooler bypass thermostat and referencing a new part that would reduce temperatures that causes the TCC to degrade.

I just don't understand the 4 cinder in a big truck because I'm old, i would love for someone to explain how it all works. I'm just stuck back in the day's of 4 cinders & escorts or Honda's. Stuck back when they put 4 cinders in small economy cars that made 90 horse power at best. Engine engineering has grew faster than me.
@jeremsgarage
@jeremsgarage Год назад
Hi Scotty! I’m this is a great question! This engine is built very much with diesel technology in its bottom end. Does it technically have less HP and Torque than a lot of the V8’s on the market? Yes it does. The difference is where the power is made. The 2.7l makes it’s max torque at 1,300 rpm and it remains flat through 4,500 ish RPM. I can start from a dead stop with 9,000 lbs hooked to the back of the truck on a steep on ramp and be exceeding the speed limit at the top of the ramp. Truly a remarkable machine. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JLxeBzrhOHQ.html&pp=ygUZMi43bCB0dXJibyBnbSBlbmdpbm5lcmluZg%3D%3D Thanks for watching!

@63DW89A
@63DW89A Год назад
@Scotty Ellis HP and torque depends on how much air the engine can take in, regardless of cylinders. Double the air means double the power. A 4-cycle piston engine only needs 4 cylinders to keep the crankshaft always turning on a power stroke. A V8 is smoother than a 4 cylinder, but the 4 cylinder is more efficient. Using balance shafts, the 4 cylinder vibration is damped very well, so that vibration is nearly as smooth as a V8, but with a more efficient 4 cylinder engine. A turbocharger rams more air thru the engine. If 1 atmosphere of boost (14.7 psi) is rammed thru an efficient intercooler, then the engine displacement is effectively doubled. So the 2.7 L 4 cylinder, with 14.7 pounds of intercooled boost effectively becomes a 5.4L 4 cylinder. And a 5.4 L 4 cylinder has pistons twice the size of a 5.4 L V8. The bigger pistons of the 4 have a faster torque rise than a same displacement V8, meaning the 4 cylinder makes the same or more power at lower RPM than a V8. The reason the V8 has to rev to higher RPM to make the same power and torque as a same displacement 4 cylinder is because the smaller V8 pistons fire 90 degrees apart and cannot possibly make the same power / torque at the lower RPM of the 4 cylinder. The beauty of a 2.7 L inline 4 cylinder is that it has the same stout bottom end, crankshaft strength and 5 main bearings as a 5.4 L V8. Ford's 2.7L V6 turbo has the bottom end, crankshaft, and 4 main bearings of a 1.35L 3-cylinder. Ford will have a lot of durability issues trying to get 400 ft lbs of torque out of that 2.7L V6, while GM's stout 2.7 L inline 4 will handle 430 ft lbs torque without issue. Also, that big 2.7L 4 can easily make a lot more HP at the top end if GM lets it. Also, if that 2.7 L 4 were upsized to 3.5 L, 600 ft lbs of torque would be no problem. That would be a gas 4-cylinder turbo rivaling turbo-diesel torque levels.

@@63DW89A Until the turbo charger goes out.....
@63DW89A
@63DW89A Год назад
@@mikeyshouseofbrakes8463 I've driven semis for more than 30 years. NEVER had a turbo go out, most trucks drove past 400,000 miles, one past 600,000 miles. Turbocharging is a very mature technology, that really came into its own during WW2. The B17, B24 and B29's all used turbos, as did P38 Lightnings and P47 Thunderbolts. GM has really done its homework on this turbo setup on the 2.7 L inline 4 cylinder. Not only does the 2.7 circulate oil electrically, it also circulates coolant to keep the bearing cool after the engine is shut off. Even the semi's do not do that and those turbos last forever. That 2.7 L inline 4 is a stout engine, with forged internals, and having an excellent layout and design. Much stouter than Ford's mechanically weaker 2.7L V6 turbo. Don't know what Ford was thinking, but an inline 4 cylinder of 2.7L is a MUCH better choice for a high torque turbo setup than a 2.7 L V6 as the V6 is a mechanically weaker engine than an inline 4, and the V6 cannot make the same torque at the low RPM the inline 4 cylinders bigger pistols will create.

The reason that there is noise is because the turbo is being cooled down after the engine is shut off. That was the life-ender for the old turbos because the oil in them would cook and turn to coke which is the death of a turbo. It also has an oil cooler circulation pump to keep the oil cool while cooling the turbo.

sounds like your talking about it cooling down the turbo after it shuts off which is something if you knew how beneficial it is for the turbocharger it'll make you happy that it has that feature cuz it beats you ruining & having to replace your turbo often alot if turbo cars especially aftermarket install a turbo timer which is the samething it makes sure the turbo cools to a certain temp before it completely shuts down the motor otherwise you'd be servicing your turbo and its bearings often

After having my truck for a while now, I can honestly say I will never go back to a N/A V8 truck. Monster torque at super low rpm's and good fuel milage too is to much to pass up just to go vroom vroom at the stop light. If I were to every buy a chevy truck, I would have no problem with the 2.7L turbo4. 430 pound feet of torque at 1500 rpm is nothing to sneeze at.

Even with forged internals all turbo engines can expect a reduced life compared to naturally aspirated. You can strengthen an engine enough to reach the same lifespan, yet material costs make such unmarketable. Putting the same amount of work on an engine of lower displacement and mass obviously increases stress, and unless Chevy starts having blocks HECHO EN MEXICO again, Iron with increased Nickel content, we are certain to see longevity problems when longevity arrives. Also, warranties don't relieve engines of stress and they do increase operating costs. All of that is packed into the price, so you pay for the short engine life twice.

Hop in the back of my 40,000 mile 06 CTS custom and relax!😂 I won’t buy anything with Dod, especially a 4 Cyl. No cylinders should stop moving , ever it just leads to more problems, electronics, and failures. Want a nice used GMC 14 loaded, no Dod ? Better choice, throw a cam kit , headers, exhaust . These new Silverados scare me somewhat, as far as paying for one, and not knowing how long it will last without needing mechanical work. They are absolutely gorgeous vehicles, but do they last? I own, and still have my original 1999 Silverado stepside, aka "The Truck" when it first came out. Leather seats, 5.7liter Vortec V8. I have put over 410,000 miles on it and she is still running great. Went through 2 catalytic converters, 2 alternators, and am on my 3rd fuel pump. ( I changed the last one). The AC went out, and the cable wire frayed on the driver side elec window. I religiously changed my oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles (non-synthetic). But those part changes are from mileage use. Other than those wear, and tear items, the Engine itself is great. Starting to get a bit of smoke, so I am sure the seals are finally giving out. I also changed out my own water pump. But now I hear horror stories how new trucks, and cars are using plastic engine part components everywhere that fail much much faster. Some even use timing belts, not chains anymore. Scary. A co-worker has a 2019 Silverado, V8 5.6, and already he had his transmission repaired. I would love one like that, but what are the odds of me getting 24 years, and 400,000 plus miles? Oh heck. I'm 58. What are the odds of me even getting 24 plus years? lol
@jeremsgarage
@jeremsgarage 10 месяцев назад
That really is a good question. There are quite a few examples of these 2019-current trucks with 180-200k. But how will they react to time. That’s the big question. We’ve got a 96 Ram 1500 in the fleet. It’s a pretty good truck too but it doesn’t have a ton of miles on it. They all fail eventually. Many of the trucks built around the same time as yours have already been recycled, for example. Your fuel pump failure probably happened on other trucks and someone just threw in the towel and bought a newer one. I sure hope this thing lasts and lasts. I hate payments and hope to keep it a good long time after it’s paid off.

I have a 2023 2.7. It’s a good truck but the main 3 things I don’t like about it are, 1-the turbo lag is really bad from a dead stop, 2-the braking lags also, when you step on the brakes there’s a delay that slowly goes to where you’ve pressed the pedal, 3-the transmission is always in gear like it’s in “tow mode”, so it’s up shifting or down shifting but never will coast or be out of gear when you let off the gas pedal

Haven't noticed any of those issues. All turbo engines have some turbo lag. The 2.7 didn't feel particularly bad. I have never. ever. noticed a lag in the brakes on these newer GM half-tons. It's an electric-hydraulic brake system and it feels pretty responsive to me. Plus it doesn't require a vacuum pump like most modern truck engines do these days. I don't know what you're talking about with the transmission. It doesn't free coast like the ancient transmissions from the 90's but it doesn't act like it's in tow/haul when it isn't in tow/haul.
