GX9 is great camera but has the worst low light performance of all Panasonic cameras. But in a good light conditions this little camera rocks.

I am new to M4/3 cameras, I switched from FF about 5 months ago. No camera is perfect, but I love my new GX9. I wanted the smallest, lightest high quality camera I could find, and I found it. I wanted an easy to use menu system and control layout, and am very pleased, it was super easy to get used to, after using Nikons for 40 years. I love how I can see and adjust most settings from a single screen. I don't hate the EVF on my GX9, I just never use it. Too small. I like using the back screen better anyway, its easier for my old eyes to see. I think it helps me compose better photos too. I do wish it was weather sealed, but I have used it in a drizzle several times with no problems. I love the glass I bought for it. I bought two Leica/Lumix zooms, the 12-60mm f2.8-4 and the 50-200mm f2.8-4. These two lenses weigh almost nothing compared to my old Nikon glass, and are as sharp. I may buy a Leica 15mm prime to try out street photography with, but that's all the kit I need. Everything I need fits in a small, lightweight camera bag. My Nikon kit takes two camera backpacks to stow. The GX9 is not as good as FF where high ISO is needed, but with dual IS, I can take night photos handheld. I have been a hobbyist for 40 years, and my photos have never looked this good. I just got back from 9 days in Italy, and the number of keepers I took is amazing. I actually had to delete very good photos, there were just too many. I am a very happy old man.

I can’t agree more. Love the compact and light weight camera. Their some things I don’t like. But as you said all cameras aren’t perfect.

I agree with most of your comments Grant, but I quite like the swiveling view finder though . The most annoying thing I find is the wheel to change the EV. I also have a G9 and as I don't shoot full manual a quick way of altering the EV is essential and it's easy to assign that function to one of the wheels. Fiddling wth that little GX9 wheel is very frustrating. One thing, or two, you may have overlooked, is that this model is now quite old and relatively cheap so is quite a bargain compared to other brands. As a Panasonic fan I Iook forward to more of your videos.

Hi Ian :) Thanks for the comment... Yeah, these things are just minor irritations lol, nothing in the grand scheme of things - Such a great little camera!!! Honesty I can see myself getting a second and replacing my G9 soon :) Thanks again & stay tuned for more videos :)

Agree. To me the EVF is ok though, I didn't expect a great EVF anyway. And I don't care about the single card slot. Getting the GX9 after using the G9 is a rather painful experience to me. Where I struggle the most is for precise focusing. Find it hard to move the focus point with the buttons pad. This is a real deal breaker for me. I am wondering if I will keep the GX9, but I feel I didn't give it a real chance. So I have to try harder before taking a definite move.

yes - I have that same problem too - It’s taken me a while to get used to moving from the G9…

@@grantrobertdavies Thank you. Thought it was me. Then I have to work this harder I presume.

God! I wish I could make it so the g9 uses the d pad. I despise that toggle thing.
@laurentyarp514
@laurentyarp514 2 года назад
@@WhoIsSerafin You can. But you have to set focus mode first then the d-pad may be used to move the focus point. Click on the shutter and you're ready to go. I don't have this on the GX9. I had to assign a button in order to set focus mode. Is there another way to that that ? by pressing the shutter like the G9 ?
@WhoIsSerafin
@WhoIsSerafin 2 года назад
@@laurentyarp514 not sure what you mean by setting the focus mode first. Do you hitting the toggle button first? Because I discovered after that it will work off the d pad.

I fear the back dial is fragile on this, and on the GX85. I believe they are the same part number. They are rather difficult to repair. My GX85 has a broken one, and I have to work around that to use it as a backup camera to my (newer) gx9. I’m taking it really easy with the gx9 in hopes of prolonging the (likely limited) life of that very convenient back dial.

So what you’re really saying is that the Gx9 is a great camera!? You didn’t mention the rgb flicker in the evf, that’s something I find slightly annoying. Also the lack of microphone input is really a bummer. I’m using it for travel and macro photography and as a b-cam with the Gh5, but alone it’s not usable for vlogging (unless there is an adaptor I didn’t know about. That aside, it’s the best travel cam I ever held in my hands!

Don't forget the short battery life as well. Nonetheless, I just love it, handiest camera ever!
