Another video me and my bud decided to throw together. This is a pretty broad overview of things we both hate and love between our YJs that also applies to any other YJ regardless of trim/engine options.

I have a 1991 Jeep Wrangler Renegade, 4.0, 5 speed, A/C hardtop. 220,000 miles still runs like a top. I have NO rust anywhere. I have to open a window to close the doors because it so sealed. And because the Jeep is air and water tight I can go to Lake Tahoe in the winter and the heater is very comfortable. I did replace my cowl seal because I notice water under the passengers side rug, at first I thought it was the heater core, so I bypassed the the heater core hoses and found I still had the leak so that's when I replaced my cowl seal, now air and water tight. I have no cracks on my dash pad, dash, glove box and console, still like new. I do agree that the console cup holders are to shallow. I just replaced my Rear Differential Trac-Loc: Dana 35, 355 gears with a 912A569 Eaton Detroit Truetrac Differential, just for convenience, (NO MORE FREQUENT GEAR OIL CHANGES NO MORE FRICTION DISCS AND NO MORE ADDITIVES) not because the original locker was bad, it was like new when I removed it. There is 2 things I wish it had, cruise control and more interior room, like the LJ. Thanks for your review.

There's a rubber tube that drains the cowl vent. It can get blocked and that causes some water leaks inside the footwell. Just a thought.

I had the same issue with the heating. It would literally just blow cold air in sub freezing Temps. I bought some cheapo 1000w ebay Chinese car heater, wired it up just to see if it would do anything and given how small the yj is, it actually warmed it up and kept it warm on the highway. The only problem is the Alternator struggles while idling if I have my brights, leds, and heater on at the same time but I just slapped on a capacitor bank and boom! That thing is golden. So $30 for the heater and $12 for the cap bank, I definitely recommend it!

I started driving in 1980 - 6 yrs later AMC stopped CJ production.(I am an old guy.) When the YJ came out (like others) I hated them called them "Yuppie Jeeps" . . . blah, blah. I've owned old school CJ3B, CJ5, J10s, etc. (BTW you ain't' seen rust till you've owned a 70s-80s CJ) Sep 2017 I bought a near mint 94 YJ & I love it ~ I take back all the insults I made about YJs. It's the best Jeep I've owned. But you hit the nail on the head. Pre-1995 are still all Jeep & have all the old Jeep issues. So for those wanting "mall crawler comfort" don't get a pre-95 Jeep.

If it's a manual the reverse grind is actually because the reverse gear is not synced And you have to wait for the transmission to stop spinning before you can try and put it reverse. This is completely normal and if you try it I think you'll find that it works. And the heaters don't really start working until you start moving

Love my '95 YJ! Has been very reliable for many years. 4.0 engine is one of the best ever (never dies). Leaks can be minimized with good weather striping, but it's hard to stop all leaks, especially if you have a soft top. The heater has never been a problem for me (I just wear a heavy jacket if it's cold). Remember, CJs and Wranglers were never made for comfort. They are made to go where most other vehicles can't go. That's why we love them!

my heater works great in my 95, but i do have a hard top, so maybe that makes a differences. as far as rust goes i haven't had the same issue but that not to say its not a problem. but my yj came from CA so maybe that helped with preserving it a little. both of these look really clean nice job.

My 94' YJ is basically stock except for the 2.5 in. Spring lift but it is a strong runner for what I use it for. I was thinking about doing a axle/gear swap for better wheeling and using 3/4 or one tons but that's not yet in the "budget ". I have some of the same issues as you do with rust around the windshield frame. I also switched to the same center console as yours because the stock one sucks and won't lock and the Heater worked great until the blower motor went out. My YJ has the 4.0 and automatic and travels down the highway well enough even with 263,000 + miles and I really enjoy driving it. Your YJs look Great 👍 Good videos !👋🇺🇸

My jeep was leaking long time until i fiund out the problem you see that small grill between your winshiels and the high lift jack yes there take a mirror and look under there you will find the leak. Also on the winshield on that aluminum piece at the botton of the winshield they leak true there a lot. Good luck let me know!

YJ's do have the most unique look due to those sexy square headlights! I recently purchased an 89 with the 4.2 liter 258 six with the AX-15 5 speed. I love my YJ, even though it has leaf springs! You just don't see many nice ones out on the road. I guess I'm lucky, with the hard top and steel doors my heater works enough to keep you warm. My A/C also blows cold which is a huge plus for me.

I have an 88, besides the dumb Peugeot trans, the rest is PERFECT CONDITION. That 4.2 is a total dog though. It's painful in the freeway but it's still my daily driver. I'm that jeep guy driving it in winter and summer only a bikini top. The only thing that is a pain in the cold is the carburetor

@@tyler-yz5cv for relatively easy fix is to do a 4.0l swap. TB fuel injection, 80+horse or so right off the bat. I had a beat up 4.2 in my 90 when I bought it . Tried a Weber, still dogshit with a pretty carb.lol anything up to a 94 or so will swap right in. I bought a donor for 500, took the engine trans, front axle and all the computer stuff . Now I also planned on a complete rebuild , so for a few extra bucks we stroked it to a 4.6L. . I wanted a reliable driver for road trips or whatever so we didn't go all out on heads and fuel injectors but it's got balls for sure. Not really an easy fix I guess when you look at it but it's my summer ride in Ontario Canada. Our weather is so up and down ,hot as shit and humid that a carb really wasn't a good fit. We had Oct to May to get it done . Cheers

I have a 93 & have had it for about 20 years now... put G2 Dana 44’s under it with Detroit electric lockers & 4.56 gears.. poison spyder rock sliders.. warn front & rear bumpers fab tech tire carrier.. mile marker winch.. banks header/exhaust also did a shackle reverse kit which is a night & day difference & I think it should’ve came that way from the factory! Great video on the YJ! 👍oh and mine leaks too leave it out in the rain all night get in it go to take off & you end up with a lake on your floor boards & the entire JEEP fogs up! But hey it’s a JEEP! so for the heat and the leaking, I've had my 89 YJ for about 3 months(ish) now, 150k miles. And I've never had any leaking through my top, nor through the doors or through the huge rust hole I have under the pedals on the driver side, I have a soft top and get the heater not "keeping up at high speeds" but that's just the lack of ability to totally seal the soft tops. mine leaks air, but still keeps it warm inside (20 degree weather in MN). I daily mine and I just think that most of the problems is something up with their soft tops... I could be wrong but those don't happen to me. Otherwise great video dude, keep on keepin on

Hey I just run across your video my TJ was having a leak it also a soft top so I realized the carpet was never wet when driving in a down poor so one day it was pooring down I went out and and check it out and where my leaking was is around the door where the half door ruber goes on top of the door I put a penny in between the ruber and it will drain and not let the water run down the door panel and in the floor. If your driveing the g's of taken off let the water run down the door channel and would not get the floor wet. But setting it would hold water some how on that rubber.

The 86/87 Original Wrangler has zero issue with the heater. No A/C on the other hand sucks. We installed one that works like a champ. The 87 4.2 throttle body sucks, swapping it with a Weber carburetor resolved that issue. The 87 front seats suck, swapping out with Bestop front seats solved that. Completely agree with the leaks and carpet. We used Dynomax liner to prevent rust in the interior.

86 not a Wrangler, it's a CJ. 1987 first year of Wrangle model. I don't remember of a 4.2 1987 model being produced with a fuel injected throttle body. But a Weber carb is definitely a big improvement over a stock carb.

@stuartgorka989
@stuartgorka989 2 года назад
@@wesleysmith995 I believe the salt chemicals they use now a days is also more corrosive than the road salt they used to use ~30 years ago. The problem with undercoating if not maintained is that it would crack, then collect salt in the cracks to start the rust. I agree if you keep up on it that the undercoating is helpful.

How are the exteriors so clean looking and the inside looks like a high school kid owns it?? lol. Awesome looking Jeeps until the doors opened. YJs are underrated. Great job showcasing how cool they are. Great video!!

Hi there.. Can you tell me what did you use for the rusty frame? Thanks
@OctaneSlain
@OctaneSlain 4 года назад
POR-15. You can buy it off Amazon and just brush it on like paint
@your2nd
@your2nd 4 года назад
Buy a wire cup brush for an angle grinder ; if you don't have an angle grinder buy a cheap Harbor Freight one; scrub as much rust off as possible. Then get some rust converter and spray it down; this will convert the rust to iron oxide and stop it from spreading. If you don't have any rust that needs metal replaced then just brush on the POR-15 and you just saved your frame ! Let the rust converter dry completely ; it will turn the rust black ; this is normal and will help the paint stick then paint.

You got a low ass thermoatat then. Crank that thing up to a 220°F and you'll be fine. Also, you might be trying to drive it too fast. A lot of Wrangler guys try and drive them over 45mph but Jeeps ain't meant to go fast. As Popcorn Sutton said "the slower you run it the better product your likker come out" but in this case, the slower you run it the better heat your Jeep come out.

I just got a 95 YJ wrangler with 33 inch tires and 2.5L 4 cylinder engine. 6 inch lift. This thing is slow as heck. What do you recommend for gears? Also is it easy to upgrade the gears? Thanks Update: I traded my YJ wrangler for another YJ Sahara 4.0 with TJ swapped frame. This wrangler is exactly what I wanted.

What fenders on the red one?
@bradbergstad5287
@bradbergstad5287 4 года назад
I want to know also! They look like tj flares???
@your2nd
@your2nd 4 года назад
They are stock Jeep yj fenders. Now the flairs Jake has on his red jeep I think are Xenon 9190 4" Flat Panel Flare Kit in Black
@your2nd

And @ Brad yes these are intended for the tj but work fine for the yj ; in fact give more clearance !

@@bradbergstad5287 Here is a link where Jake talks about the mods on his 91; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z1QfwDJuLHw.html ; he talks about how he had to make the tj fenders work as they don't fit the existing holes. I am putting TJ 3.75 Rubicon flares on my YJ and cutting all the overhang and stitch weld the seam with my TIG. You can see how the TJ flares really open up the wheel wells . I looked at his video again and I think he has the 6" and wished he had gotten the 4" anyway he will have to clear up the width of his Xenon's but they were for a TJ no doubt.

Speak for yourself. my 1995 yj has unbelievable heat, within minutes you are cutting it off even in 20 degree weather. But it did come with factory A/C so i have plenty of vents. But i will agree, I love the YJ models over any other jeep made.

I have a 95 YJ with the 2.5 that I use for my DD with the occasional mud hole trip or trail. Was there a power loss before the new rear end or did the new rear end compensate for that?
@OctaneSlain
@OctaneSlain 4 года назад
@@mcooler4 We both went back with the same stock ratio. So power remained the same. You can choose to regear both axles to make up power with a lower ratio. Your main loss in power will definitely come from the larger tires
