1. Will not wash his beard everyday 2. Will not sleep with a wet beard 3. Will not trim and stray hairs, watch to see why! 4. Will not go without styling his beard, due to bald patches 5. Wont wear a scarf, makes it look weird.
Only one that I don't follow is #1, I have very sensitive skin and even after a single day of not washing my beard my upper lip starts to go red. I use the citrus Head and Shoulders, and afterwards use beard oil and it leaves both my beard and skin looking clean. Also the only stray hairs I clip are on my chin since that's where my beard is thickest, anything stray on my cheeks I try and pull back down with oil, I don't like using wax since it makes my beard feel really stiff.
What a fantastic point about not trimming your stray hairs on the side. "A stray hair today, is not a stray hair tomorrow"..definitely understand what you mean when it comes to density. Keep on growing mate!
I once had an ex sister in-law tell me that she could never trust a man with a beard, I was stunned, after a few seconds, I responded, I could never trust a woman that wore lots of make up. She went very quiet, I’m pretty sure she went bright red (couldn’t tell through the make up) gave me the death stare, then stomped off still not saying a thing. I walked away about two inches taller 😂
"A stray hair today is not a stray hair tomorrow". I should start living by that rule! My beard is rather thin/patchy and any hairs I end up removing probably does more harm rather than "fixing" anything.. good rule/tip!
Jeroen van Achterberg bruh mindblown. I trim down my stray hairs and end up fucking up my facial hair because of that. I end up having to shave because it starts to look uneven. So much to learn
I rub my balls on my boyfriend's beard sometime get the taint in there. Jokes on him when he smells shit during work presentations. Barbra from accounting found a dingelberry in his beard.
I so love your videos bud , there fantastic and really helpful . I'm growing my third beard, now into round 16 days of growth . In the past I used to trim down sides of it and now , just letting all the hairs grow out evenly without trimming any of it . I find it's really starting to take shape rightly , and not cut at all for first 8 weeks . Thanks again for all your brilliant videos man , cause I've learned and . Picked up so many tips, and pointers many thanks 👍
Wow, the stray hair thing is a revelation as I just started growing a beard all the way for the first time in my life, at 57, because of Greg. I've been clipping the strays, but not after seeing this vid, thanks Greg for the confidence!!!
I like the term "hedge trimming." I try not to do this, but some of my whiskers are such crazy outliers, I end up snipping them back anyway. On my mustache, however, any stray that I can see sticking straight out without using a mirror is clipped asap. My rationale is that I've got a thousand or so whiskers; knocking back a few of them surely won't be a problem. Great video and great beard!
I never put products in my beard. Don’t like the feel of it. On occasion I can style my moustache, but I just let it be. It have worked for 20 odd years.
I went back to stubble in order to regrow after a 'hedge trimming' incident. I always thought it made sense to not trim the sides as they only become harder to style, but I succumb to wanting a tidier look. Knowing you don't allow hedge trimming has given me the determination to let it grow. After seeing your styling routine I'm going to buy a round brush for control, can't wait for it to grow back! Thanks for the tips!
Greg, I love that you let anyone touch your beard, i feel exactly the same way. Appreciate the Beard Brand videos and teachings very much. I feel I'm growing a GREAT beard (7 monthsl with your help! I totally notice that 99% of folks dig it. Anybody that touches my beard if pleasantly surprised at how soft and silky it is. Thank you Greg and Beard Brand!
You're awesome thank you! I personally wont ever stop learning more about grooming a beard. People just think oh simple... not that much. There are s ol me stages that just can kill your confidence and you have to work past it. Not easy to do!
Greg, you are my inspiration. I’m 3 months into my white corona beard & it’s on track to look like yours (fingers crossed). I have noticed that I can’t wear high collar clothes anymore; even hoodies are becoming a problem. It’s always good to hear of your experiences.
What a beautiful beautiful man! Thank you for sharing your beard wisdom! I do t have one personally but I am a huge fan and your videos allow me to help other men take pride in their appearance and therefore feel more confident and successful in life. And again, you’re quite possibly the most beautiful man on earth.
Thanks for the video. I have been blessed by genetics to have thick facial hair, and have not been clean shaven since I was 18. (I'm now 64!). I have had either a mustache, goatee or full beard. Personally, I like to keep my beard nicely shaped and trimmed and not let it get too long. I just like that look. Living in a climate which has quite cold winters, not wearing a scarf is not an option, especially when subzero temperatures occur. And, I love to have my beard touched!
Greg, I thoroughly enjoy watching the Beardbrand videos. Your posts are always very informative and helpful. I have been growing my beard for a month now and most likely made some mistakes. Specifically, I trim back the rogue hairs.. Now, after watching this video I will be growing them out instead. Do you trim the cheek lines or is that natural as well? What about under the beard. I trim mine about an inch above the Adam’s apple? My goal is a bead like yours. Also, my beard seems to be growing uneven. What should I do?
Man Greg , I like that haircut ! Good Rules , I messed up lately trimming wild whiskers in my mustache , and I have realized I sleep on my right side face down and it always happens on the right , thus my right side of my mustache is thinner which is annoying . If and when I ever get it back , I'm NOT going to do that again . May I recommend the song "Reckless Love" by Bethel . Have a bless day !
My beard is thinner on the pillow side, although, I cant find any science to support that. But, I am convinced its thinner because that side is face-down in the pillow.
This is my 1st yeard. After 4 months, I shaved my neck. Looked good, didn't like the way it felt, and won't do it again. I let my stache (which has always been thin) grow for over three months to see how long it would get. Won't do that again. Shaved the side under the ears. It was way out of control! Might do that again, but with summer approaching (in AZ where it gets up to 120), the last thing I want is sweat on shaved skin.
Definitely scarfs and anything with a high collar is out (funnel neck jackets etc) Annoyingly for me I work outside. I style my 18 month beard every morning ( blow dry/balm) and within 10 minutes I look like castaway. Definitely don’t trim the strays. The more you trim the more strays you get. I learned the hard way and now I’m trying to grow all the trimmed strays out so one day I have a nice uniform look all round. Great vid as always. ))
True gent. Awesome beard sir. Being scottish I have a typical Scotsman wild beard. I tend to use quite a lot of heavy balm to keep it under control. Never had the nerve to allow someone else to trim it I just tidy the bottom a little.
I just went for my haircut and beard maintenance trim. Barber took the liberty to hedge trim my cheeks (I have a denser beard). Left pretty unsatisfied, I felt he took a good month away from my cheek growth. (I was pretty clear about keeping length all around). Anyways, it's fine, I have somewhat fast growth so it'll be back in about a month, but I'm going to make sure to be even more specific next time.
You ought to trim it by yourself buddy. From my 3 experiences with 1 cheap and 2 expensive barbers the expensive ones did a worse job than the cheaper one. Even telling them exactly what to do and showing pictures of desired looks. If you've watched enough cutting videos from beardbrand you must already have taken enough tips to cut on your own.
Sometimes, it's a painful lesson of Live and Learn. I know a ton of guys who will sit in the chair, and watch the barber do something that they didnt want, and they wont stop them.
cierto muy cierto hace una semana me paso lo mismo y estoy arrepentido, mira que mal quede estoy en quitarmela mejor por completo despues de cuatro meses..............
I've had an almost identical experience the last time you had your beard cut by a barber on the channel(as I remember). I told him "Yeah let's cut a little bit of lenght and tidy up on the sides" and suddenly I'm like "Now its short....AAAAAAAAAH"
My professional work was as a French horn player. As such, when I grew a beard I had to trim my mustache away from my lips. Now that I'm retired, I won't trim the hair away. Makes my handlebar much more successful!
I'm gonna take your advice on the not hedge trimming stray hairs. and as for myself, I wash my beard every day and rinse it off throughout the day, however that's more due to necessity, I'm pretty sure we have very contrasting careers.
Unfortunately I work outside on building site's installing fibre. Be it the rain/mud in winter and the dust from the summer,if I don't wash my beard every day it's not a pleasant site.
Hello beard, Brother I’m new to the beard World and thank you so much you have given me hope in growing my beard now. I have happier now that you have my problem of patches. Thanks Let’s beard it up. 😊
I won't use a comb. Only about 8 months in but for the past 4 months or so I can only use a brush. Combs would just rip hairs out and not go through it well at all.
If you oil your beard regularly there's no need to wash it more than once a week (beard shampoo). I do work out almost every day and I don't shampoo my beard when I'm showering. Once a week is sufficient and good for your beard. Every other day? Too often if you ask me.
I have my beard for 13 years and it haven't passed a day without washing it. And the only product I've used is extra virgin olive oil (just a tiny bit on my palms then rub it together and on the beard). I use the original extra virgin olive oil but if you don't like it, there are olive oils with different fragrances . It make it smooth, and grows thicker down the line
Yep I hear you! I do the same . No trimming those strays and I never go out to work without product ;) And on the touching the beard I am with you... I do the same ...as long as they ask lol.
The new generation of fashion,is more simplistic, people arnt afraid any more.its fantastic.grow old gracefully, right now older mature guys can look so cool
Greg loved your video .. just bought the Tree Range Beard wash hope its good ..and thanks for the tip will also not try to wash my beard daily..Pls make more such videos on how to trim and keep up with the beard
No coloring my beard as some have said. It looks fake, and I have heard horrible stories of guys having nasty reactions to the dye. Embrace the gray! Also, I don't mind people touching my beard, either. Ha I had an older lady come up to me and tell me my beard was beautiful. Totally made me whole day. Good tips, sir.
Oh yeah, I am with you on that. The lady didn't touch it. She just told me it was beautiful. I have since seen her again. Apparently, we have mutual friends. Who knew? If it's someone I know, doesn't bother me one bit.
im a barber and i have a longer beard, i have some gray in it, but i refuse to put chemicals on it, i dont care for the gray, but i wont put hair color chemicals on it!! more important to keep it conditioned
Hi Greg, I have beard patches 😔 it’s more worse on my right side. What is the best product to use to cover the patches or make the patches grow with hair
I will never pull on my beard, some say it helps to pull on it then shave, but my beard isnt very dense and i need to prevent any strands from coming out!
Try living in Midwest area during winter without a car but you own a bicycle , my beard helps but a scarf is a necessity! I have to properly lay scarf right way to keep beard in tac or if I just bulk scarf up around neck it’ll destroy my beard 🧔..
Here's mine : I will not listen to people around me who tell me to "shave it off". If it ever comes off it will because I want it off.. Been wanting a long beard for a long time ( no pun intended ).lol I value all of your videos & tips. Great channel! Thx
I use mayo in my beard to style and oil it. The Hair dryer melts in the mayo to give it shine, keep it soft, supple and manageable all day. Though I do find myself craving sandwichs Also,I will never put mayo in my beard trying to make a mustard and mayo dipping sauce.
This beard style is something I plan to shoot for. I'm about this age and my beard is close to the same color now. I do have to wash it daily because I weld. Lots of sweat and slag
I won't shave my beard off because my wife wants me to. 😁 it's her fault to start with, she told me to leave it after 1months stubble. I'm 4 months in and now she's asking when it's coming off?! 🤣
Greg Berzinsky She doesn't mind it. I think although she prefers me with stubble she means it mostly in jest. I haven't touched it in 4 months but I do groom and oil it regularly using tips from yourself 😁 Stay cool Greg. 😎🖒
My beard grows slow and I get impatient. 1. I'm done doing any sort of trimming until all hair is below the neckline. 2. I'm not going to judge my beard until it's full. 3. I just trimmed a couple of strays because they went right into my nose, but from now on I'll work those strays down instead. I need as many hairs as I can get.
Hey, I won´t shade the sides or the neck. Just let it grow naturally. I wish I could let it grow full lenght, but for my line of work it is not possible...
I still don't understand #1, even though I heard this many times no one ever says why. Isn't there product in the beard? how can you sleep on it with product in it? how can you eat and "never" get food in it, even if you keep it clean? I get food in my beard probably every meal and I don't eat like a pig, I just keep napkins around all the time, but just because I use napkins doesn't mean my beard is clean! I love your vids bro, but PLEASE explain! edit: p.s. doesn't the product get all crusty over night? also, what is wrong with washing it every day?
Greg, WOW, Great look and style. I love the beard as much as I love you house. LOL Really a cylinder phonograph out of my 28 year collection would look awesome. The molding in you rooms would tie it all together. P.S. All the videos you guys at Beardbrand have been very useful and educational. I am all about that!
I won't dye my beard! This was a big issue when I first started graying. Then the grays were coming so fast, it was ridiculous to keep trying to hide them, plus the roots were showing in a week anyway. I'm upset now that I'm not completely gray and looking for best way to get rid of the rest of the dark.
Thank you for all the valuable information. My beard is now growing since 1st Nov 2019. It's really tough to keep it as I'm a health care worker and I wear a proper mask for sometimes 9 hrs per day. It's really not the right time to grow it. But anyway, I'm also growing the sideburns. Should I trim those?
I've been keeping the bearded style since I was 16(11 years now) This is not something that I would never do, but never did so far is keeping the beard on January 1st, I always shave it out (only time during the year I actually shave it down to nothing) for a "fresh start", anyone else out there with the same superstition?
I dont wash my beard at all. I run water through it and it gets the run off from whatever i wash my face with. Everytime i shower it gets blow dried and oil and balm. Mine is super thick so i do the hedge trimming. When someone touches my beard i run my hands through their hair.
Some people tend to close their eyes in a way that makes them small. Never figured out why. I see it especially in younger people when they pose. I guess they like it better aesthetically or something?
Hey Gregg love ur videos .you should make a video about relaxing ur beard I did it and ohhhh man I mest up my beard now I have to cut it all off hair is falling and I have crazy patches smh I'm so mad at my self and depresse but its hai I hope it grows back man ...
