Thank you for this video. I've had a Malamute, a small Eskimo and still have a Pomeranian. I was applying to adopt this incredibly beautiful male Pomsky puppy on Petfinder. He is Peach colored with blue eyes. Magical fox dog! Woweee! But I watched your video, and I ended up changing my mind. If I were younger and had more energy, I'd get one. But I'm a little older now and realized that I just want a calm, mellow lap dog companion more anything. Luckily that puppy has gotten over 10 applications for adoption, so I'm sure he will get a good home. I'm sad, but a bit relieved. Appreciate the public service you are doing here.
Thanks for the thanks. There was very little meaningful content when we were looking at getting a Pomsky, aside from thousands of pictures of cute Pomsky puppies. We had a rude awakening when Beedi showed up. She's 3 now. Still a lot of energy and still requires lots of walks, but a lot more manageable than when she was 8 weeks-old.
As a first time fur dad, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into lol. My Pomsky has been a nightmare at times, but I’m not gonna lie, I’m obsessed with him and although I wouldn’t say I wouldn’t have him any other way … I love him now, so it’s too late … but not sure I would have gotten him if I knew everything beforehand lol
ME TOO hahaha. I got mine from a husky breeder and she said she was breeding "purebred huskies". As a first time dog owner we later found out she's a pomsky. We still love her to death.
Awesome vid! Owning a Pomsky has been one of the best choices in my life, HOWEVER it can be a ton of work if you underestimate their need to be mentally stimulated- I believe this was mentioned in a prior video. My furbaby is 6 mos, super sweet but it's terrifying how smart she is...I call her my escaped military pup/experiment. They NEED puzzles, etc...don't be surprised if you have to start off at intermediate level. If you are serious and have the time and patience, a Pomsky can bring so much joy and laughter to your home.
I have 7 of them. They are all different yet all incredibly smart. One in fact is beyond smart. He knows how to open all doors, even round handled doors. One challenge for him is the screen door, And I don’t want him to learn that one....! Lol.
I have an 11 month old Pomsky who is 75/25 (mostly Husky). Everything in this video is SPOT ON lol! Her name is Elektra, and she is honestly sweet as pie to everyone and everything. I get to a point where when she does certain things that can be frustrating, I just laugh because to her it is a game when she has something of mine I need back. I love your videos, keep it up (:
I adopted a pomsky and yes I can attest to the high energy!! Sky seems to be able to go on for hours on end! But he’s very smart and such a social butterfly! I love having a pomsky!
Agree completely about them not being lap dogs, them being destructive, and very high energy. My Pomsky is also very stubborn. He’s is learning to be obedient with me, but he is a monster with others who watch him for me 😩 He’s a super sweet dog and loving toward ppl, but if he is not mentally stimulated or having fun, he becomes a monster 😂
I absolutely love pomskies on top of huskies, Pomeranians and other dogs. I've heard that the Pomeranian husky mix can be extremely friendly and also clingy, which makes sense since they've inherited those traits from their purebred counterparts or parents. One of my online friends as a pomsky and I've heard that they can be a great substitute for people who prefss a smaller or mini version of a husky (Though I imagine it requires the right kinf of space at the same time). Pomsky's and Huskies may not necessarily be suited for apartment or condo life though, unless it's a particularly big space and you're in traveling distance with lots of parks
I have a Pomsky named Polaris, who is 17 months. I adopted her at 9 weeks. Your video is spot on. She is more clingy with me, and the dominant dog in our home. I have an Am. Staff. Terr and she keeps him in shape playing in the yard. She has her moments of wanting all of the attention, especially if I am giving attention to our other dog. Then she just wants to be alone for awhile when she is resting. My Am Staff Terr helps to tire her out, and calm her. She has been good with my 5 yr old, but they are both learning boundaries and respect. The destruction was something I was not prepared for. She did chew up her potty pads. I expected her to do some chewing, like most puppies do, but she takes it to the next level. I have two sofas that she has chewed the arm rests up, the corners, some of the cushions. I have given up on these sofas, and accept that I will have to buy new ones. My question is, do Ponskies grow out of this stage when they get older? My Am. Staff stopped chewing on everything at about 2 yrs old. I am hoping and wondering if she will grow out of her chewing up my furniture stage. I would like to be new sofas. Any info and advise would be apricated. Thanks
2 1/2 seemed to be the age where Beedi matured a lot. She still has lots of energy and still needs long walks, but she is a lot more reasonable than when she was a puppy. Still very stubborn, but no longer destructive. You have another year to wait :)
We have a 1yr old and ours is just like your girl I started watching you when yours was small and ours. You are right on the mark. We love ours even tho she is alot of work. Nice seeing your videos again.
Pretty accurate. Our boy is named Teddy. He is just over 3 years old now. And almost 40 pounds. He got the pomeranian coat, meaning he has husky markings but is poofy like a pom. So yeah, lots of brushing. I do two or three partial brushings a week so it isn't too much of an ordeal for him. Even though he is almost 40 pounds, he still thinks he is a lap dog. He will climb up in the recliner with you and wiggle around until you make room for him. He also loves to lay on the chaise with someone. Thankfully he wasn't as energetic as your dog is. He did want plenty of play time in the back yard when he was younger but not so much anymore. He loves walks, but doesn't go far because he wants to stop and sniff everything. For an extended period of time. And then turf the grass in the area with all 4 paws. He wasn't too bad with trash, but he did love the wife's shoes when he was a pup. He would take those, and any bowls out through the doggy door to leave them outside. Oh, and he loves everyone. Always looking to make a new friend. And if I don't let him while we are out walking, he whines and cries. But if anyone asks to pet him, he eats it up. Leaning into it and just looking as adorable as possible so they won't quit. In the winter when it is cold and snowy, and in the summer when it is hot, he doesn't get a walk. Too stressful on him when it is 90+ and too stressful on me when it is below 35. So I take him for car rides. That way he gets the mental stimulation he needs as well as exercise running back and forth across the back seat hanging his head out the window. Just like huskies, you don't have too much trouble with them chewing if you don't let them get bored. You let them get bored and they will get destructive.
Wow! I knew my 2 yr old 12 lb rescue Pomsky was different than any dog I'd had before, but your video helped me see he's normal for himself. I love how wicked smart he is, and the aggression he was allowed to have by whomever, is significantly better with a quiet home, lotsa exercise, and calm pets. Oh yeah, and "No Bite Mommy" jail time-outs. LOL
They're not lap dogs? My husband calls ours my 40+ lbs lap dog. She jumps on the couch and then let's me know that I'd better get my duppa over there so she can cuddle. Cuddle as in plop her 40+ lbs self right on top of me.
I ride my bike with the dog. I ride and she runs. It gets her energy out. She will run 1 and occasionally 3 miles once or twice a week. And I do not mean she trots around. She runs! She only stops to wait for me. The rest of her energy is exerted in the back yard fence. She is also cuddly. She is not stubborn like some say huskies are. Her biggest problem is being too excited when meeting new people or dogs. It is like she is frantic to get to them.
Thanks for the great pomsky content, gents. Your videos were very useful in our decision to get a pomsky puppy, and understanding what to expect from him.
This is great guys! You are spot on, as a Pomsky owner I was agreeing through the whole video! 💖 Especially the daycare part. I love when I take him and it does last until the near day! #lifesaver 🙏🤣
What people need to realize with Pomskies, they are mini Siberian Huskies, plain & simple. I've owned 6 Siberian Huskies throughout my life & there is absolutely 0, none, no difference at all between having a Husky or a Pomsky except for the size. Siberian Huskys have always been my favorite breed, now I have a Pomsky & see what they are, it's a win with me because I get to keep my shoulders and even though Pomskies still can jerk you off balance, it's still not as bad as a Husky jerk.
I currently have a 5 month old pomsky and my biggest thing with her is that she eats everything. She does not destroy stuff. She will eat anything loose. I have had to buy her a muzzle so that I can take her outside. We couldn’t take her out without her picking stuff up and eating it before we could get it from her. I’ve had many calls to the vet because she has either pooped or thrown up something she has ate. So hopefully now with the muzzle she can get more exercise.
@@JamesandLaurent Dusty is turning 8 months in a week. I have grown up with rescues all my life. Never experienced a puppy before and have been in the perfect state of mind for Dusty. Love this Pomsky. He is quite the character.
My almost 3 year old pomsky loves my 21 year old daughter! He’s definitely chosen her as his human and loves to play, go on walks, and cuddle with my daughter in her bed at night!
Best to get a purebred Pomeranian because they are awesome! All the traits mentioned in this video are Husky traits. Pomeranians are all of the good without the bad and they are adorable too.
i wish i'd known what a hard core little heart stealer my daughters pomsky would turn out to be. True she was pretty self centered little toy addict when she was a pup but she grew up to so loving and caring/affectionate and has a unique relationship with each of us in the extended family, we're all pretty much madly in love with her...
More by luck than skill, my basenji is a real snuggler - I guess it makes sense. Basenji’s are an African breed and have no undercoat - they get cold easily and really want your body heat. So I have a bunch of coats for her and she has a litterbox to use when it is too cold or rainy outside There are trade offs with every dog Am enjoying hearing about the pomsky!
I breed pomskys. Have bred them for 7 years. The big difference is where you get your pomsky. Large breeders with many dogs tend to result in pomskys with behavior problems and lack of cuddling. I am a small breeder and my puppies grow up in a house with a family and other dogs teaching them l, us loving on them til they go to their forever home at 8 weeks. My clients tell me all the time ...best dog I have ever had. I'm convinced the early interaction and love a pomsky gets before 8 weeks old has a huge impact on their temperament and behavior. The only thing I agree with is that they do shed...alot.
I have a Pomsky we named him Buddy Bear Payne. I was not aware of what I was getting when I got him. I have had Huskies and we have a Pomchi and I have had chihuahuas and Pomeranians. I did not realize how much more energetic they are. I am still trying to learn about the Pomsky. He is 1 year old. He is up to date on his shots. I do my best to work with him on teaching him things around my work schedule. he is doing alright all things considering. But still I have a lot to learn.
Just got one. Almost 10 wks old. But I’ve owned a Pomeranian and an American Eskimo in the past. So I think ill be find. I live solo and work from home so he will get plenty of attention and walks!
My husband and I when we were younger we had three huskies, we did a lot of sport with them today, at over sixty years old, I fell for a pomsky thinking that its size would be more in line with our age, in fact this cute three month old thing is an electric battery ⚡ and it is sometimes exhausting, in fact I am surprised to see how much she looks like a husky by her behavior, (to the point of going to bury an ear pig that she couldn't finish), we'll have to adapt 😅 that being so, we love it 😍 but I really underestimated the pomsky, thank you for your videos on the pomsky it's very instructive
Oh boy. Me and my family are seriously considering getting a pomsky, and from what I’ve seen, it really all depends on the dog itself. I hear they’re basically wild cards. Should we get one for our family?🤞
I wish I had known all of these five things before I got my pomsky. I love him. He's wonderful but... For a 6-month-old he is destructive as all get out. He's very smart, but he's as stubborn and determined as the day is long. I'm 68 and he really gives me a go. Keeps me hopping all day long. My husband, my kids and my grandkids too, all have to help because he is almost more than one person can deal with. The other thing that I think should be on your list is that Huskies are very mouthy dogs, not meaning talkative although they can be but they use their mouths a lot and so he has a tendency to grab at things with his teeth. People should be aware of that because if you have small children around it can be very scary for them. I wouldn't trade him for the world, but I do wish I'd had a lot more information before I got him. Thank you for this video. It really proved that I'm not crazy for what I keep thinking I'm seeing!
We wish more people watched our videos before, rather than after getting a Pomsky :). If that makes you feel better, the two milestones we noticed were 18 months, when Beedi clearly started calming down, and 2 1/2 years, when she fully settled. She still has lots of energy. She still needs lots of walks. And she is still stubborn. But she is no longer the crazy puppy from the initial months.
3 walks?!?! Mine has to freaking take 6-8 MINIMUM and STILL acts like nothing is happening And for the record, he gets at a minimum 0.5 miles per walk and usually 0.75 to 1 mile if not way more And as for not a lap dog, picky eater, etc...soooooo damn true! The other thing i never understood was just the sheeer amount of barking, yapping, and howling. I knew it would be like a husky or Pomeranian - but holy cow, hes so smart and lets you know when he's hungry, bored, or has to party.....but its usually thru loud loud barking
Pomskies can have a very sensitive stomach as well like Huskies. This was not something I was expecting since my 13 years old Pomeranian has a stomach of steel. My pom was super annoyed with the puppy when we brought him home since all he wanted to do was play and Pomeranians don't play, they like to be pampered. It's been two years so the Pomsky is less hyper now so they get along now.
My Pomsky must be the best of the best. He was just repossessed by the rescue, as the people made him an outside dog because they had a baby. He is the best. He's very well trained and behaved. The only problem I have is that he's a picky eater, and there are only a few kibbles I will feed my dogs, due to allergies. He does like The Farmer's Dog, so if he needs kibble, we'll have to figure that out with our vet.
We have 2 (litter mates) that are 16 weeks. I'm close to retiring and they have more energy than I could ever imagine. Call me crazy but love having them. They can find any piece of lint, paper, etc. I don't notice much hair because I use my Dyson daily and sometime twice. Love my fur babies. They just require more attention than any child ever could and I raised 4 of them.
One and a half is when he should naturally start calming down (although gradually). But you might want to take him to obedience class if you're not able to figure it out by yourself.
lMy son and his wife purchased a Pomsky. His name is Onyx. Onyx is so sweet and extremely smart. He knew right off who was the head of the household. My son was fussing at him because he grabbed a paper towel and begin to chew. He ran behind my legs and hid underneath my lounger. I was his protector. Love this little man.
Yes, since they have had him, I just love this little man. He sees me and makes a mad dash as if he is so happy to see me. Then he plays for a few minutes. He loves to go to a large window I have and look outside. I swear he acts just like a baby.
Great video! My white Pomsky is just the same i knew what is was getting into thanks too your videos. But i have no idea if he gets long hair or short hair is there any way too tell which he will get?
You can normally tell by looking at a puppy whether they will have long hair or short hair. We have a video called 'What do adult Pomskies look like' that shows before and after pictures of a lot of Pomskies. Maybe you can find one that looks like yours. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mtsWPFgIt1g.html
One of my Pomeranians was a very picky eater! He would rather not eat than eat dog food. He actually got sick and dehydrated often from going on a food strikes! It is extremely hard when your dog just won't eat!
How is it working out with your cat? Melina, my Pomski, and our cat Jynxy are besties. Melina can get a little overbearing on kitty cat when they play sometimes. But we call her off the cat and peace follows. They do have a prey drive. Cats need escape routes and places to perch where the dog cannot go. We have a 5 story, two tower cat tree. We feed her up there on level 3, her hammock is on level 4. There is also a baby gate blocking off the room with the litter box. This give the cat places to which she can retreat when she doesn't want to play.
Excellent information, thanks! But today, we're kind of desperate because our 11 month Pomsky boy is EXTREMELY PICKY for his food. We have tried kibbles dry food different flavors/brands, toppers dry/wet, home made healthy food and even fast food like Flame Broiler or Yoshinoya. And everything works for a day or two and we got to a point where we technically had to chase him with his plate of food !! Does anybody have any idea or suggestions for me please ?? Thanks.
Like everything with Pomskies, it depends. Beedi is great with new people. Most of the other Pomskies we know are the same. But we can't talk on behalf of every single Pomsky.
How do you guys find the destruction around the house that comes w dogs. My pomsky chica is way bigger than she was supposed to be and she makes sure I remember that every time I leave her alone for 10 mins
The destruction was a huge issue for us in the first 6 months. But now, we can leave her roam around the house for a couple of hours and she's fine. It does get better overtime.
I think it all depends on how much Pomeranian and how much husky is involved. We adopted a pomski after his former owner was a monster.(But I won’t go into those details) Our pomski follows my mother EVVVVVVVVVVVERYWHERE. And he is very much a lap dog when it comes to her. He does have energy that shows itself when we go to a dog park or when he is play wrestling with one of our cats or with his hound dog mix adopted brother. But it’s nothing compared to the type of energy I have witnessed with Huskies… And maybe that’s because of his size. Maybe the energy is matched but it doesn’t wear me out as much as a large dog would do. As far as destructive goes, he’s never destroyed anything at all… With his teeth…But he was not properly potty trained or neutered as a puppy so he does ruin things by marking everything and that drives me insane. I absolutely cannot leave a bag or box on the floor and he will mark purses and backpacks as well. He used to go from room to room and Mark peoples pillows which is disgusting… But I chalk it up to him finally feeling safe in our home . Of course we got rid of those pillows and he’s not doing that anymore thank God. Perhaps he’s a lap dog to my mother because his former owner was so evil and my mom makes him feel super safe. When it comes to me, he likes to sleep at my feet. He’s not a cuddle bug but he loves to go bye-bye’s with me and he loves to sleep at my feet. Anyway that’s my experience.
This is nothing like my pomsky. Always sleeping on laps, uses pee pads without shredding, doesn’t have too much energy after playing with Australian Sheppard, doesn’t shed as bad as the other dog, eats anything and everything. I forget what else in your vid but mine is a polar opposite. Only gripe is it wants to bark and growl when I come to bed, until I pet him then he’s ok. Oh and he will shred Kleenex. He will chew on a bone often, laying on the doggy sofa. He sleeps under wife’s side of the bed overnight. We’re going to try to break the pee pad training stage in another month
My pugs are 9 years old and 2 years old and they are waaaay more energetic, unpredictable than my Pomsky who is 6 months old. Pomsky’s are a super easy breed for a dog lover. I’ve had German Shepard, Great Danes, Pugs and Boston Terriers and the Pomsky by far is the easiest one. These videos seem like they’re just impossible but its simple training and they’re just like any other dog. Nothing crazy about them.
We both disagree about this very topic. But again, our videos are not just about Beedi or any individual Pomsky, they are about the breed in general and are based on surveys and interviews we've conducted with dozens of Pomsky owners. Although it is not a particularly cuddly breed, there are always outliers.
No such thing as American Eskimo. And FYI...the term Eskimo is now cultural offensive. (It always was) It's the equivalent of calling a black person a ni**er.
@@JamesandLaurent great...a racist term recognized by racist people. How much better your conscience must feel. The term Eskimo is a racist term. It has been since a white government relocated the Inuit of Canada to Arctic Canada. A CFL Team here in Canada and to change their name from the Edmonton Eskimos to the Edmonton Elk because the term Eskimo is now widely recognized as racist. Have you actually ever met an Inuit person? Being a 1st Nation and Indigenous person, I was never fond of the Washington Redskins NFL football club name. Look how long that took to change. Have you ever met a 1st nation or Indigenous person? I guess I'm not allowed to call out 2 gay guys for their spread of intolerance or ignorance because that would make me a bigot! Why not rename the German Sheppard to the Jew Hunter??? Of course your organization will have to accept it but I see no problem with them having to accept this new name when they already use the term Eskimo. Chihuahua will now be known as Wetback Rat. If your organization told you to jump off a bridge, would you??? Nobody calls Black's Ni**ers or Italians WOPs anymore. Why should your racist organization? There are still some current organizations that maybe you'd also like to align with like the KKK...hear they're big down there in 'Murica. How's about the Nazi movement??? I hear they're killing it!!!
My Pomsky IS most definitely a lap dog. Wants petting and cuddling 100% of the time. Also enjoys getting out and running around and exploring. But in the house, lap dog. If I get tired of her on my lap, I have to force her to get off. Lol.
Pomskys are half husky. Huskies have wolf in them. Therefore Pomskys have wolf in them. You have to set up a "pack order" when you bring your Pomskys home. There has to be an Alfa male and or female who is the boss. I have a Husky/Siberian Spitz and he looks like a mini husky. I trained her to pull a wagon for enrichment and exercise. She doesn't pull musch or often anymore due to her being in her 13th year. She was born in my living room. She is my soul friend. She has saved me from attack twice.
Huskies don't have wolf in them. They are completely domesticated dogs. In fact, there are many other dog breeds that are far more related to a wolf than huskies, including malamutes and GSD. I have 2 huskies and people always seem to ask if they are wolves. The thing is that they don't even look like wolves. They are was too small, they are not that leggy like a wolf, and their heads are way too small. Their personalities are stubborn, but they are completely domestic and if you are ever around wolves or wolf dogs you will notice their behaviors are extremely different.
Our pomsky is now 8 months old and weighs approximately 32 llbs (our breeder thought he would grow to be 25 lbs). Like you, we had an eskipom previously and there is definitely quite a difference. Alfie has a lot of energy only I find he is not so keen on morning walks. He prefers longer walks in early evening. He loves being in the woods and made out very well tenting with us this summer. He is certainly opinionated, stubborn and a picky eater. Before Alfie I thought all dogs love peanut butter...not Alfie. He is certainly not a lap dog but does have an affectionate side. We wouldn't trade him for anything!
We get our two pomskies the SuperChewer Barkbox. They love it and await the box every month. They love getting the new toys, treats, and bones. They hardly ever destroy the toys and if they do barkbox will replace it no matter how long you have had it. Love my pomskies. They love the toys so much. They both know some words and they tilt their heads to words like walk, treat, bone, ride, and many more words. They shed so much which is horrible when you wanna wear black or dark colors.
All so true! Mochi is a little loving monster! Biggest thing I wish I knew is that he makes so much noise! He's so vocal, but not like a husky. He communicates through growling, chuffing and that high pitched Pomeranian yap. Little guy never shuts up!
I have a Husky and it sounds like my girl all the way. Lol expect for a lot more fur and howling. I have had many dogs before her and would not reccomend any Husky or cross breed to first time pet parents. It takes 2 of us to meet her needs. The energy is extreme! Thanks for educating on the Pomsky. My girl is a rescue. I got her from someone who got her from someone who got her from the pound. Please please think long and hard about any dog so they are not rehomed or dumped. There are plenty of dogs needing adoption! I love her and she's a great dog as long as she is you point out exercised enough.
Thank you for all the great info. It definitely let me know that right now is not the right time to look into getting a Pomsky as a new family member. I really appreciate the info provided
I'm late but this video is so accurate. My pomsky pup is hard headed af.. she only uses the bathroom in the cage. No matter how many times i take her out during the day. It's so frustrating and I'm current battling with finding her another home and fighting thru it
???? "and couddliness is something that a lot pomskie dont develop until there are 2 or 3 years old? Because your dog dont have good connection to you that he dont want cuddle 2-3 years first when he 2-3 years old ????? dont mean all husky mix are like that WTF maximum nonsense so also 5 boosters are also good? what are you talking please for non sense "writing also " "I think beedi is cuddly" i think you think or you are 100 % this opinion you dont know to 100% what your dog are cuddly or not "i think" and want to speak for all pomsky when you also have not a real pomsky breed???????? bro i have so much questions so much nonsense not understand
FYI, none of our videos are ever based on Beedi alone. We do a lot of research for our videos and interview other Pomsky owners to corroborate whether what we see in Beedi is just her as an individual dog or common to all Pomskies. We stand by what we said in this video. Have a great day :).
My dog is a half breed of Pomeranian and ancient Greek breed called Kokóni. She is also extremely picky with food. Is it the Pomeranian in her? Because your pomsky also does it
Possibly, but it's hard to predict. If you get it from a breeder, some breed Pomskies that are 3/4 Pom and only 1/4 Husky. If you really want a lapdog, you're better off getting something else.
haha, this seems like the dog from HELL. Absolutely the opposite of what I'm looking for. Also, I thought they were supposed to be miniature in size. The dog in the video is huge for a toy dog.
Yes, they are not for everybody. Beedi is 25 lbs, that's roughly half the size of a husky. There are even smaller ones, that are closer to 10 lbs. They tend to be 3/4 Pom and 1/4 Husky.
As in talking by the Pomsky? They don't talk as much as Huskies do. They do something called the Pomsky scream, which is in-between barking and howling.
