I'm so sorry to hear that. That's really tough. We always recommend you make that decision with your family and vet. No situation (or dog, or family) is the same, so we can't say for sure.
One of the most athletic dogs I’ve come across. I remember being at the dog park and an owner was playing fetch with his. He accidentally threw the ball over the fence. The dog got the part where it over the fence and looked back at his owner. The guy said “go get it” and this dog in one leap, scales a fence that was 8 feet tall. Got his ball and jumped right back over like a cat.

I was Pheasant hunting and my GSP was on the other side of a creek and we got to a area where the water was 20 feet across I called him and he just squatted and jumped and cleared the creed from just one jump. Funny this is when I fish I just let him swim to shore to go to bathroom and then I call him and he just swims to boat so he’s not water shy.
I had a combination of a male German pointer and a standard french poodle. It was the dog of my life. She was sooo smart, and what an athlete! She loved to play, ran like the wind, would catch a tennis ball as high as I could throw it, every time. Loved the family, never jealous of a new baby. Loved to play with other dogs but never saw one who could keep up with her. All humans loved and admired her because she was so playful and smart. Knew when not to bother you and relax. I had great dogs before her and after her but she was truely special physically and mentally, and a beautiful dog to see run - like a champion 🏆 race horse. She truely spoiled me and she has been gone for 40 years. Her name was Speed, and I wouldn't be at all disappointed if she was with my daughter Rose and my mom to greet me at the Pearly Gates. If I'm lucky enough to be invited in.
My first gSP, Hank was pointing butterflies when he was seven weeks old. Amazing dogs. Absolutely amazing. Hank lived to 16. The best upland bird dog ever. My current four year old Max is now my mountain biking dog. GSPs are such an intelligent and amazing breed. They will run with you until they drop when hunting and then they will lay on top of you when you are sick and take care of you. I can't imagine life without a GSP.. If you want a dog that will eat your couch, tear up your bed, put nose prints all over your windows, bark and holler with its head sticking out the window of your truck then get a GSP. It's always an adventure. I couldn't live without one.

I’ve had mine since he was a pup and he’s 8 now. Undeniably the most loving dog I’ve ever been around. He just adores everyone and doesn’t have a single mean bone on his body. Give them 45 minutes to an hour of hard exercise a day (fetch) and they are the best dogs. Mine has lived with cats, dogs, adults, toddlers, and has never shown the slightest aggression ever.
Thank you for pointing out your dog is ok with cats. We are looking at a rescue GSP puppy, and we have two cats at home already. Since they're hunting dogs, I didn't know if that was going to work.
@@ctopanga14 I can’t promise it will workout with an adult rescue. I got my GSP when he was a baby and two of my roommates had cats so he grew up around them. Probably just need to introduce them and give it time. Usually the cats are the ones that freak out and cause the issues by hissing or running away and the dogs naturally want to chase them
One more thing to consider. My first GSP lived to be 15 1/2+ years old. I’ve also heard of shorthairs living to the age of 17. My experience is they are a fairly healthy breed. Maybe I was lucky the first time around.
Yes this. My Old Age Puppy GSP decided 16 years and one day was just fine. I got a pup (lab x GSP) when the old boy was 9 and the dog who had never spoken dog or known how to play got a second chance. He didn't work because I made mistakes training him and he became a BOGOF so I had to find other outlets for his energy and brainpower.
My GSP died 2 weeks ago. He was 16 years 4 months. I had another one live 16 years. Sadly I had one die of cancer at 12. I have a rule that any year after 10 is a blessing. One thing for sure they got a lot of exercise as I ran them every day. Normally an Hour at the doggy park seems to work, but I hunted them too.
LOLOL OH BOY UR IN FOR A RIDE.. they are amazing and spiritual... you just have to let them be themselves and respect them ALWAYS... if you do that u can train them to do anything in the world.. my GSP had been training me for 2 years now. It’s been a journey.
If GSP doesn't hunt, it's important not only to let out his energy through physical activities. They need to be psychophysically engaged, which can be achieved with 'K9 nose work'. They don't necessarily need to run for miles, 20 minutes of nose work will wear out their energy more than any running.
We had a GSP. "Aaron's Get to the point, Ruger" Best dog we have ever owned. We did not hunt him even though he would have been capable. He was so incredibly smart, gentle, and kind-hearted. He was our family dog and we still miss him. He passed six years ago. Ruger, you were the best, and watching these videos makes me miss you all the more.
Great overview! A personal story would be good addition here. One point I have taken away from watching many of your videos is that even large volumes of high-intensity physical activity are not enough for a field -bred GSP; their minds also need to be engaged. My understanding of GSPs is that they need everything from their owners: training, exercise, time in the house with their family, field time, a job/purpose and regular mental stimulation. It is a huge commitment with a big payoff for the right owner.
I am a non-hunting GSP owner. You cannot stress enough the totality of exercise this dog needs to be satisfied. They need long duration, high intensity and novel exercise experiences varied throughout their day and life. Running hard at the dog park, then walking on leash down a trail in the woods. Going to 2 different parks back to back in one day. Not going to the same park two days in a row. Or not taking the same trail while at the park. Going to parks with different terrain. In the summertime she gets 4 to 6 hours of exercise. Swimming next to me as I kayak is great exercise for her and really wears her out. I’m pretty sure she could keep going all day. Off leash running around is the second best exercise but walking around the neighborhood just doesn’t cut it. It has nothing to do with the duration and she enjoys the walk but it’s not enough. Unless you are willing to run with her you need to find a way to get her to run safely off leash. I started at the dog park with other dogs there and when it was empty. After you take her to the dog park and she sprints with another dog for 45 minutes you can then put her on the leash and take her for a hike through the woods or down the trail or whatever else you have in mind. This way she gets the physical exercise, the social exercise and the exploratory exercise she needs. As for her job, well I think she has one. While I don’t need her to find a bird and point at it I need her to come to me when I ask her to, follow me as I move down the trail, stay within range of me, Leave alone will I tell her to leave alone and get what I tell her to get, get in the water and get out of the water, stay behind me when the trail is steep, Slow down when I tell you to slow down. I don’t see how this is different than teaching her to hunt, I’m teaching her how to hike. Her job on the hike is to listen to me when I gave her a command and to be in a position that I ask her to be in. She has made me such a better dog owner in general and I am having a blast with her
My GSP was the most incredible trail runner, mountain bike, and back country skiing companion. Even after a 17 mile exploit, he’d still run down deer and geese on my back 40.
I have had 2 GSP's, they are without a doubt the most intelligent, loving, faithful, energy filled companions you will ever know. It breaks my heart that I was not a good fit for either of my GSP's, as they require a lot, and I mean a lot, of exercise and attention. Please keep this in mind before deciding to get one,or you will break your heart and his.
Hahahaaa are you kidding me? Prospective owners let me enlighten you. Calling a G.S.P. An athlete is a crime. I would take my Tango Pheasant hunting and if I didn’t force him to stop rest and drink he would go until complete failure. PERIOD.
I'm on my second and third GSPs and people always comment on how gorgeous they are and marvel at their speed and energy. when they ask if they are good pets, I hesitate to say yes because I understand what a commitment they are. These are dogs bred for a purpose and lazy backyard livestock is not it. They don't do well when left alone. They need their pack (human family and ideally another dog) and they need an outlet for their drive and energy. They are happy, playful, loving, loyal and smart and have boundless energy. The first 2 years can be a challenge, especially without a training regimen. They have the energy of puppies most of their lives. If your purpose and lifestyle and the pup's are aligned, they they are wonderful companions. If not, neither of you will be happy and the dog usually gets the short end of the stick and too often ends up in a rescue. I usually answer the question by saying they are more of a lifestyle than a pet. They are also a very healthy breed. My first was a big boy from Germany, 66 cm tall and 85 lbs. I was planning his 16th birthday and we missed by a few months. That was over 4 years ago and I still miss the old boy.
You guys are the best. Got a GPS turning one year old in a week. Been following you since I got him. Basically been going by your game plan and he has turned out to be awesome. I really appreciated this video. I live with my GSP Ozzie in an apartment with no yard. But I set aside two hours a day (not including travel) for this kid to work. But I live in Portland and we have the best dog parks. So he can hang with the high energy/work dogs (Viszlas, Weiermeriners, Australian shepards, Dobies, Brittanies) has been amazing. Covid has been tough, but I always knew his exercise was essential even before this. Love your (new) channel! Such great content! Keep it up!
This is an awesome video! I did tons of research before getting my GSP and during that I found you guys! So thankful to have a breed-specific channel to go to. We don’t bird hunt but we have friends that do, so we are hoping to tag along with them. When people ask me about our pup I just tell them “the energy is unreal”. 🤣
I agree about apartment's, but I'd add that a cheap $600-800 dollar GSP is better for that. But a high German bloodline GSP is around $2,500-3,500 depending on bloodline. It is because of their documentation, and competitive hunting like nationals. We have a English pointer that doesn't get birdie, bloodline matters alot for hunting. And do research on your trainers, our's had good reviews. Now is decimated for treatment of dogs in his care. I think he would take on to many of them.
I have had GSPs for forty five years and I don’t hunt . But this is an extremely active breed and smart breed . We take our GSPs hiking, we do dock diving, obedience and agility. So you don’t have to hunt to have this breed . This is not an apartment or city dog . They need to run off leash until their hearts are content ! We used to breed and we would never sell a puppy to anyone who lives in apartment or if the family is not active in the outdoors. If this breed does not get enough exercise physically or mentally they will bounce off your walls and become extremely destructive !! This breed is definitely not a couch potato ! They are beautiful but not everyone should have one who wants one .

Is that Rogue jumping in to the water at 4:46? Whoever it is, that's my kind of dog right there. I feel that this was a very accurate and honest approach to getting a gsp. We have 2, yes, they are family dogs and we need to run them about 2 hours every day. I think the only consideration I would add to your list is that it would be helpful to have a plan in place on day one. Don't assume you will have no problems exercising the dog because there is a neighborhood dog park. You might not like going there. Or, more likely, you might have no problem with it, but your gsp won't actually exercise there. I've taken mine to a few and they walk in and are instantly bored. They want to explore landscape. Don't assume you can figure out all the training down the road. They start developing habits and testing boundaries early. Without a plan in place, you could easily fall behind and be working on fixing control problems as your dog gets faster and more independent.
I couldn't agree more. Since covid, my local dog park has been a nightmare (newbies, everyone stressed, etc), so I really had to shift gears to get his reps in. Having a plan, training, and routine is imperative to give these kids what they need 👍🏽
I really didn’t know his breed when I got him. He just needed a home and we took him in. He’s 2 now. I feel bad because I can’t offer him any hunting experience and limited places to run free (we have a family member who has a farm that he runs on sometimes. He is SO smart! We live in a tight space in the city in a not so good part of town. There are no dog parks anywhere near here. And I’m not comfortable walking him outside besides a quick potty break unless we go to the farm. Are there any specific things you guys would recommend to better care for him? He doesn’t chew up anything besides his toys and anything with baby spit up 😅
I have a vizsla. He’s almost like s GSP-lite. He’s usually calm most of the day after an hour long off leash hike in the morning. If you want a pointer type dog but aren’t sure you’re ready for GSP energy vizslas might be a good option. He has a GSP friend who’s probably the only dog we know who can tire hum out and keep going.
Great video. I have bred GSPs and know how energetic they are. This video should be watched by any person considering them. They are super intelligent and can challenge the most experienced owner when they are puppies. I love them so much. Just lost my boy and am devastated. I have just put a deposit on another to join my beautiful bitch. Your dogs are stunning..shame I live in the UK. I love this breed. They need stimulation and exercise. Mine was kind of a tough puppy to raise but at 3 1/2 years now he is the perfect dog. I think they will all need e-collars though. I only use the sound on it, it rings on his collar and he comes back. He doesn't need to be "shocked." He is also a "velcro" dog and wants to be around me whatever I'm doing. Great family dog. He's amazing with other dogs now but had some time as a puppy where he was a bit mean with smaller dogs. Definitely grew out of that though. Having a dog park nearby is a huge help. He gets to run around and play with other dogs. As a puppy, he played a bit rough but nothing dangerous. Some other owners don't want their dogs "playing" but it's normal. You could say it's like wrestling.
love your content! Old School guy but love the latest video on whether a GSP is right for you. I breed gsp's and {because I've never considered myself a trainer ) hunt 30+ days a year which is a lot. I will forward that video to every prospective puppy buyer that reaches out to me. I have a print out that touches on those things but after seeing your video it seems dated. I require proof that the pup will hunt at least minimally {state small game license} or will be entered in a natural ability test or junior hunt test and must live in the house with the family that they are a part of .I do not do limited registrations. My son turned me on to your channel and I immediately subscribed. Thanks to folks like you or (Y'ALL as you say it) we can match the right dog to the right buyer quicker and easier. Better for clients, breeders and ultimately the breed that i have been in love with for more than 40 yrs. This is my first time commenting on anything online, hope it doesn't suck.
It definitely didn't suck. I wish all breeders cared as much as you do and put at least some effort into educating and screening buyers. Although if you watch the amount of work Kat puts into her litters, that is going to set an really high bar for everyone else. If you saw the litters my pups came from after seeing what Kat does you'd go apoplectic! But they are still great dogs.

I have a 9 month old GSP female as a part time hunter but mainly a mountain adventure dog. She is naturally birdy and looney right now but is also a snuggle bug with the family and loves lounging around the house. I think they are the best breed out there for a family/hunter/adventure dog. They do tend to be clingy so the only thing I am worried about is separation anxiety when we finally return to our offices full time.
Brilliant video. I live in the UK and have an English Springer with whom I go shooting about 2x a month in the season and she's happy to go home after 3 or 4 hours in the field. My son's GSP, though, will happily run for a day and then some. The level of energy they have and the amount of ground they can cover simply can't be overstated. Also, and I know it's just a sample of 1, I found her to be more hard-headed than my Springer or the Labs I had before. A fantastic dog but not for the casual owner.
the reason I want one is because I live in Arizona with lots of mountains. My last dog (childhood dog) never had the ability to make it even half way through. Im 21 and not having kids till early 30's (hopefully lolol). I go on hikes all the time and am very active being a self employed personal trainer so im not away 6+ hours at a time like most people have to be. Would this be a good dog for me??? Also wanted a dog that doesn't want anybody but me because, my childhood dog could literally have moved to another family and she wouldn't have even cared lol.

Great video! My GSP is 7 years old now, and still has the same energy level he had early on. I've never hunted with him (I don't hunt..not that there's anything wrong with that..I just don't hunt). I have taken him with my on many runs over the years and he's the best running buddy I could've asked for. We've gone up to 18 miles, but typically in the last few years have settled in on 12 miles or less (he seems to tire after about 14 miles nowadays, and I don't want to push him too much). He's fantastic around kids and the rest of the family, but I can definitely tell when he hasn't gotten his miles in for the week (I try to get him out for at least 20 miles of running a week). He still goes 100% whenever he can, so be aware (at least based on my dog) that they like and likely need their exercise. If you're looking for a running buddy though, I'm not sure if you can beat a GSP!! He's by far the most loyal, friendly and smart dog that I've ever had. He knows as soon as I put my running clothes on that he's going out for a run. Once he's out on the run, it really feels like he's got a job to do -- he ignores other dogs on the trail, and is such a pleasure to run with. If we go a week without a run, he may rip up a pillow, a towel, etc. Point being, it's a bit of a commitment (based on my dog). If you're good with that commitment though, it's the best breed ever!
I enjoy your YAWA videos but this format was in my opinion so much more entertaining with the mix of your talking and cutting to videos of the GSP's showing what you are talking about. The other YAWA videos i can just listen to and usually don't watch the screen where as i watched the entire video this time. You have a wonderful channel with so much info about the breed that i can relate to and as many have said i think the GSP is the best all around dog, hunting or home life they are wonderful.
We have one and ours is pretty calm. Sadly he was used as a bait dog and my daughter’s friends saw a guy dump him on the side of the road. We nursed him back to health and planned on finding him a good home but we fell in love with him. He so affectionate and loving. He got very attached to me quickly. My husband is a hunter and started using him and loves it! They are one of the best dogs we ever owned
I rescued an English Pointer from a shelter when he was about 1-2 years old and I learned A LOT about pointers because of this. They really are highly intelligent dogs and like mentioned in the video, they need a job. My dog likes to play "sniff and search" and we do this by hiding different scents (or even people) around the house, we give him the scent then he searches. He also enjoys diving underwater for toys while in the pool. One thing to note if you're getting a pointer (especially if you're not using them for hunting) is they will hunt. My dog could spend hours upon hours in the backyard hunting lizards, bunnies, ducks, etc. We live out in the country so he goes into the woods and near the pond just looking for something to point and hunt.

Hi Greetings from down under on Flinders Island. Loved this video. I have an 8 month old Pointer, Dottie, very original name 😆whom I love dearly. I was not aware that an hours walk in the morning and evening was just not enough for her and I was wondering what else I could do with her. Bigger problem here for off leash running especially through paddocks or bush tracks is snakes. Tasmania of which we are a part of has two of the deadliest snakes in the world Tigers and Copperheads. A bite from them untreated will kill a man and most dogs if bitten do not make it. So running off leash at this time of year Spring/Summer is not good. Any ideas would be appreciated keeping in mind I am 71 still fit just a bit slower. Cheers
I seriously cannot stress this enough DO NOT GET A GSP IF YOU LIVE IN AN APARTMENT!!! I’m sure it’s doable but it’s going to take a TON of time to get their energy out. Mine loves being outside in out fenced in backyard all day but it’s still not enough. That’s only 70% of her energy, she also needs super intense run around time and training/mental stimulation.
These two are awesome with so much information. They helped me a ton with their training videos before I purchased my chocolate lab pup. If you follow their instructions and stick to training your dog a few hours a day, I promise you it will pay off in the long run! They also breed some amazing dogs and if I were to ever buy another one I wound probably reach out to them because of their knowledge and experience with dogs. Some people would avoid short hairs because of the term 'German,' and they term Shepards Eustachian's (known for being able to hear.) See the movie "Escape from Auschwitz" for the powerful effect of EMR. We wanted a service dog, and I don't know what would be wrong with this one. A friend's having half-breed puppies in a couple months. Please add your thoughts to the reply line. If the sight impaired person held a cane in his left hand? Would she understand her job? She's small enough for him to put on a chair or bed, and she won't eat as much. My father had such an animal and it had a burrowing animal in her cage, and she loved the burrowing animal because she couldn't get under the metal wall herself. It was like a makeshift house, and we had to use a lot of hay, but I think she became suicidal, because they were at work and night school. One of the videos has different pictures of dogs curling up. She stretched out as if to encourage the hypothermia, as if she wanted to die the next day. I THINK A PRARIE DOG WOULD BE PERFECT. But someone I know supported ground hogs. Squirrels are the only animal I know who will not invade your property if you feed them when they are very hungry. The father of the dog who ran away went to the military service, and she has an aversion to the wife. Somehow, the dog thinks the wife won't treat the puppies nicely, and she wants to defend her master since they're good, and he'll take care of her. As a person with a disability, I learned some different ways; in other words, you have to try different ways. We had a line for one dog, and she would stand there, as if she perfectly knew the confines of the yard, which she did. One advisory is, "You have to be very able to be disabled." I resented it when I heard that, but a little creative. It's noteworthy that they would modify all of the sidewalks, isn't it? There is a community woman with an electric wheelchair, and her dog jumps up constantly to the level of the EMR. He is saying they are happy because she's not too tall. If you walk in and say, "Oh did you want the light off?" it might realize your communication wavelength, but they do like the natural world. The indoors causes depression by the overwhelm and deprivation of their senses. Well, I think Golden Retrievers and Eustachians are a little big, and there might be even smaller ones. The original Yale bulldog Stubby was little, and he sat next to people who were alive. He almost didn't make it on the boat, and they said in "the millionaires club" that they taught him how to salute.
I definitely agree with you I had one he passed at 15 yrs! He was so handsome and smart he was loving and easy to train and walked him daily I miss him still had him as a puppy and he loved to swim in my pool on his own
People make the dogs, my GSPs turn on or off whether they are inside or out. I have never owned, always an apartment. 3 at one time, RIP Jade. Consistency is the most important thing I can say. They are super smart. You have to have a tier, you are the boss, after that, they work it out. If you don't make yourself the boss, then you have 14+ years of struggles.

For a first time GSP you might want to consider getting an older dog. My first GSP was a puppy. I got another one about 5 years later when he was 6 months old. Both were high energy, especially the second one. After my first GSP passed away at 13 years, I got a "used" dog from a breeder (3rd GSP). She was almost 8 years old and had two litters of pups in her past. She gets along great with my second GSP, who is just 11 months older than her. She (the 3rd one) doesn't know any commands or I don't know how to give them. I take them hiking (off leash) and my second GSP can go all day. He's done about 12 miles with me and then asks "when are we going to do some hiking?" My first GSP was the same way. My 3rd GSP, the "used" one, she can go about 2 miles and then gets tired and wants to go back to the car. If she knows where it is, she will leave us behind and go to the car. Luckily she is always at the car when we get back. I have to plan my hikes for this though. They will be 10 and 11 in June and July 2024. The fun never ends. About a year before I got my first GSP, I had a Plott. She was about a year old when I got my first GSP. She passed away at about 13.5 years, 8 months before my first GSP passed. The Plott wasn't as high energy, but she was just as crazy, if not more so, than the GSPs. All of these dogs could/can smell anything and everything. Can't hide the food from them.
Teach a GSP to catch a frisbee! It’s a great way to expound their energy. I would throw a frisbee 4-6 times a day. She loved it. I buried her with her last frisbee.
A confusing video. It comes across, if you dont take your dog hunting all day everyday it might not be for you. Plenty of people work all day and do training when they can and still produce good dogs. especially if you get them as puppies, crate them at night, crate them for work and get home and do what you can till they can be trusted out of crate. Unless you let puppies free roam the house. You can also buy a dog not from hunters and it can turn out phenomenal, they were born for it, it comes natural for 99% of them.
I have a catahoula leopard dog and I’m considering getting a gsp as a brother for my boy! I have trained my catahoula to blood trail and shed hunting and we do tons of hiking and backpacking trips!
I just got a German short haired pointer saturday for hunting I’ve had him for 3 days now and they get crazy but they’re amazing dogs my best friend has 2 of them they’re great hunters
It’s seems you have a lot of experience with this breed, have you had any of them get injured? Specifically torn ACL? And how you deal with keeping them stimulated while recovering? We r dealing with this now with our 2 year old and I’m struggling finding ways to keeps him mentally stimulated while being physically restricted. It also is breaking my heart because I know he just want to run off leash and enjoy the outdoors but is unable to do so.
Our high German bloodline GSP, I swear has to be a world record for his size. He's 28 inches at the shoulders and weigh's 90lb in the off-season vs 85lbs in hunting shape. Because of that size his head and nose is bigger than other GSP's. People will put their bird dogs away to use him to fill their tags, my brother and a friend would get their tags done way before everyone else in their group. One time a pitbull ran onto the field that my brother and him we're hunting to attack him with his head down, if it wasn't for my brother that pitbull would of been dead. That pitbull was on its back in seconds. This isn't the first time a pitbull has tried to attack him.
GSPs are strong, fast and they know what to do. I don't want mine to get in any fights even if they are not the aggressor but what I said. Sounds like yours is the same.
Mine is now 7 months old. First month or two was so hard. After that she’s the best dog. Very obedient but will break the rules at any given moment. She loves to run all day long. She plays for a minimum hour and a half a day and never gets tired. Only seen her get “tired” after playing fetch at 60 yards for an hour. These dogs require space and time. Some people who get them don’t have that. We’re getting another in a month. Boy this time. Now she has to put up what she was like as a puppy lol.
I don't hunt but I have my gsp on a trail or in a field 5-6 days a week. We also have a 3 acre back yard where the dog can run free. I have found that putting a dog in a field where it can use its hunting instincts will tire the dog out at least twice as fast and twice as long, as opposed to simply letting them run.
I hate this video because they show and describe one species of animals and at the same time through this video they constantly show the killing of other species such as innocent birds etc. The authors of this video simply have no feelings for any kind of animal and it is known that people who do not like animals do not like people either.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and really like how informative and insightful they are. Thank you for putting so much time and energy in your channel! We really want to add a GSP to our family but we live in a suburb and have a small yard. We’re a young active family with young kids, we hike, run and explore the outdoors a lot. I’m a stay at home mom and I don’t expect our dog to be left alone at home often. Would you advise us to look at a more laid back breed (ei bernese mountain dog) as a family dog? I worry our gsp would not get the stimulation it needs. Just want to make sure that our dog will be happy here with us!
I would like to get one in a couple years maybe do a little hunting and be a companion around the farm and the woods. Can you train them to retrieve birds but keep them from going after chickens?
I have a gsp. An they are very energetic pets. Even with daily runs does not tire out my big boy. And his nose gets him in so much trouble. Gsp do have strong scents
I don't hunt, but I hike and am looking for a dog that can go long distances in a day. I'm talking about MILES, as in 15-25 in a day. Of course, I take breaks every five miles or so. Now I probably wouldn't take it on a thru-hike, but might take it on a 3-day section hike ~ 50-60 miles total. I know Huskies are built for this, but I don't want a dog that sheds that much. I'm also working to build myself up to be able to completely run 5ks, so I do daily (weather permitting) run/walks in my neighborhood which is 3.6 miles, but on paved roads. I only go hiking on trail once a week or so. I'm on a postage stamp lot, maybe 1/4 fenced acre, for backyard zoomies... if the breed does those.
I rescued an English Pointer (basically the same breed but different fur). My dog was full-grown but still really young when I rescued him. The trick to this is training, training, training. They love to train and the more you do, the better dog they become. As with any rescue, there will be a few quirks that you just won't be able to train out of them and that's okay. Make sure to socialize your dog really well and do lots of exercises and mental stimulation. Congrats on the new pup!
Can you please tell me which exact one and why why do you pick the model that you're going to tell me I have a 2 month old puppy that I want to train soon and use the shocking collar when he gets a little bit older but I want a good durable shocking collar that does whatever I'm going to need to do to train I don't want to have to buy a different one
No shock collar is good for training any dog. Shock collars are usually a bad excuse for not having enough patience or experience in dog training. If you have trouble training you GSP I suggest spreading the training throughout the day in small 10 minutes bulks. Also a GSP that has had a chance to tire a bit beforehand will be much calmer. Also They are impossible to train right after a meal. Give them only like 1/4 or 1/3 the breakfast and use the rest later as treats for training after a couple of hours.
Wtf don’t use a shock collar lmao, it just makes them worse and makes them scared of you and also aggressive. Use rewards when they do something right instead punishing them.
Only if u own a homestead farm. My dog Otto is a wonderful dog and we love him. He is super affectionate and loves us. He is super healthy. But he is busy.
