I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕

Agreed - in my opinion, prayer can/should only be offered after talking to somebody and they have shared that something - whatever it be! - is difficult or hard in their life/bothering them etc. Otherwise, as Molly said, you can wait for them to ask. Oh, and theoretically - prayer is talking to God, no one can stop you from it - you can just pray for people you see or meet in the street in your head - but then this should not be according to their outside appearance, but a general prayer to "help them in whatever struggle they are currently facing."
@noneofyourbusiness273

As a Christian, I hate so much how people ask 'Can I pray for you?', like come on, just pray for the person in private, ask God to help them, when you're in your alone time with God. I sometimes sense that people who ask 'Can I pray for you?" is for two reasons: 1-You want to look good, and want the person to say "oH mY gOD, yOu aRE SuCH a grEAt peRson", or 2- they don't understand the situation, or thinks its easy as it is; or think God is a wishing machine. I just don't understand. (I'm not talking about Pastors, or people who work in God's business, in a Church is common that question, but If you really want to pray for a friend, you shouldn't ask, you just pray and that's it)
@noneofyourbusiness273
@noneofyourbusiness273 5 лет назад
@rubyvelez01 That's what I say, If you want to pray for a person, you can, without asking BUT in your own alone time with God, in intimacy, as a Christian, I apologize if someone was rude about it. There's people that doesn't understand limits
@Kaye09MNchick
@Kaye09MNchick 5 лет назад
I am also a Christian and I have medical and mental issues that some people have asked (not myself, but other people I know from support groups) if they could pray for them. It's just not a good thing to ask someone to you don't know at all. I feel like maybe if you were in a deeper conversation with them about it and they asked, maybe...but even then it would be kinda insulting.
@Kaye09MNchick
@Kaye09MNchick 5 лет назад
@@tabitas.2719 Yes! Very much agree with this last bit! There's no need to ask to pray to God. You should be able to just pray to God whenever you want in your head. No need to bother the person who's going about their business about it.

This is the most beautiful answer! Also better way to always ask if I can pray for you would be 'IS THERE ANYTHING I can pray for you " like it can be living situation, anything, not always the sickness or desease that everyone wants to go and heal right away. But this is tough one. I've been the person asking or saying hey let's pray you heal! And it's not always the most precious thing to say to someone who has probably heard it for many years.

Lucía Frau I am not blind or visually impaired but am heavily involved in disability awareness. Best thing is going up to someone, in normal tone just say hi then then ask if they need help. Don’t physically touch as they could be fine and that may disorientate a person when trying to concentrate. If you go to Twitter there is a hashtag trending called #JustAskDontGrab which shows the issues that happen when people suddenly try to help without asking and really useful links on best ways to approach. Hope this helps a little.

I am a Christian and was raised as one. Yes I went through a particularly tough time in my life where I was sick. I looked sick, I felt sick, shoot, I probably walked sick. I had cancer. I can not tell you how offended I was on the inside every time some came up to me and asked if they could pray for me. for one, I don't know you and secondly thanks for reminding me how sick I look. Lastly if you really felt I needed prayer so badly then just do it, why even ask me? I don't know, if you ask me anyone who is asked "Can I pray for you" is just finding a reason to judge and feel they are better than someone else.

In my experience you are right. I'd like to add though, the kind of religious people who would ask this are never going to be world leaders (if you know what I mean). Generally I've found that "only have the best intentions" and "say it from a place of love" are just expressions used to try to explain away the sadistic and insulting behaviour. I'm an atheist, I was baptised christian but I denounce all of that. I don't need the guilt to keep my moral compass in check, and I don't understand anyone that does. I can say this though, there is NO WAY I would do or say any of these five things to anyone, ever. Also, Blind Girl is beautiful.

I am a Christian too. I've been sick my entire life. I was a child when I first became sick. So many people would surround me and pray for me. So many people yelled at me "if you only believe," "stop accepting your illness," or "you just have to take your healing." It messed me up. As a sick child I suddenly felt like it was my fault that I was sick. I laid in bed at night awake praying, "God, Im trying so hard to believe like they say. I believe." Then people told me if I wanted to be healed I had to stop saying I was sick and tell people I was healed. So I did that. I started lying. I told everyone I was fine. I stopped calling my doctors. Guess what? I didnt get better. I got sicker (duh). I fell into depression and I blamed myself for my illness. I couldnt figure out what I was doing wrong. It took a long time to heal the emotional pain these "prayers" caused. Now I only let a select number of people I know and trust pray for me. I can't say that I understand healing completely but I do know now that it was never my fault, God never wanted someone to yell at me about my healing (all throughout scripture, He never did) and that God will always be there with me.

Well, the concept of prayer to me is to allow people to cope with a difficult situation, to calm down and meditate. It (somewhat) helps the person praying. It does not affect others all that much and if you want to help someone there are other ways to help them. And it does not help people to grow their limbs (or retinas) back.

Yh I am in the foster system and someone saying number 5 is one of the worst things you could say to a human being
@minwellitsanicknamebegrate2531
I was adopted at 16 and my mother wanted to keep me and my brother but was unable to take care of us and we were taken from her so assuming that people are put in the foster system because their parents didn’t want them is hurtful lots of parents are unable to properly take care of their children not that they don’t want to but are unable to all three of my siblings adopted and blood related were in the system because their family was unable to keep their kids saying this to anyone is disgusting . My younger adopted sisters Birth mother went on the run with her when she was a child because she didn’t want to give her up but her mental health deteriorated over the years and eventually they government took her child now my sister away . When I was in school I was terrified to let people know I was in the foster system because I was afraid of how they would treat me It wasn’t until I was adopted that I let people know because I would introduce my adopted siblings to my friends and they would be confused because we are different races . Saying your lucky your parents kept you is insulting to the person you are saying it to and their parents luckily no has said it to me because I would give them a good oil smack to the face no matter who said it it’s so demeaning

@southernbellebabies
@southernbellebabies 5 лет назад
I think a more appropriate question would be "is there anything that I can pray for you about?" I come from the perspective that I'm not assuming you need prayer because you are less of a person but if you would or even a loved one would like a little prayer, good vibes, positive thoughts, ECT... But I understand the annoyance if they are assuming that they are gonna heal you! I had a stroke about a week ago (I'm only 37) and a couple prayed for me at the store. It was fine until they went on and on for what seemed like an eternity! Then they just made me uncomfortable. Like they asked if I felt different. I'm like ummm...no... Make it short and sweet, not long creepy and like I'm at a holy rollers revival...

I could not leave the car as I was in an unfamiliar city and he knew that so he just didn't stop - even when I asked politely, and then not so politely. fortunately the ride was a short one. The orver-riding theme of this video is that people seem to think we should wish to be other than we are - i.e. more like them. How colossally arrogant. And I just relate to her so much that I think I just forget about it. When I'm focused on the content of the video, I think my brain just goes on auto pilot and assumes she's just like me (sighted) - if that makes any sense. (and then she'll have a 'blind girl moment' and I'll realize I forgot she was blind!) When you get to know someone with a disability (especially an obvious disability), after a while the disability just fades into the background and you just see the person. She goes from "that blind girl" to "Molly" in your mind.

@@Chichirinoda Going of the end of your comment, I'd assume that feelings like that are good,since she's shown disdain towards being "The Blind Girl"in every video and collab she does. In a way, I suppose it's good because it proves that, yes, she's the same as any of her other viewers, and that being blind doesn't have to limit her, but at the same time it could be seen as people further alienating her...? Please excuse my rambling aha

I do agree that we shouldn't assume blind people can't do this or that. But I still think it's impressive to look that good when you can't see. Her style is amazing. She does have at least one video on how she shops online if people are interested in that. :D

OMG! As someone who has a chronic illness that’s having a major affect on my health right now if I hear ‘you just need to leave the house more’ or ‘you need more exercise’ etc from my other half or his family I may scream. I have an actual illness, moving my legs a bit more isn’t gonna help, my dr has never suggested that and I’m sick of hearing it, sure if it would help I’d do it, but if I leave the house or walk around for one day I’m absolutely exhausted for three days. The worst part is is it gets in your head and you start questioning if it’s your fault for being ‘lazy’. It makes it worse that my health has gone way down hill recently with no apparent change to my condition. Health and medical conditions are a complete mind fuck honestly.
@rebelsqu1rrel
@rebelsqu1rrel 4 года назад
I also suffer from a chronic illness as well as anxiety and depression. I am also a hsp and struggle with social anxiety. It is completely inappropriate to make comments on someone’s illness or disability, and can often make an individual feel worse about themselves or their situation.
@leea8706
@leea8706 4 года назад
Audrey Davidson it absolutely does make you feel worse, and honestly we don’t need anything else making us feel worse than we already do. I swear that having a long term health condition gives people a burden complex, we feel guilty that we can’t do as much as other people and rely on others for help, and when they validate our feelings by making us feel like it’s our own fault for being ill or that we can somehow control it it is devastating.

I love what you said about "Can I pray for you?" I feel so strongly about this question. I have a health condition that has no cure and the treatments lower my immune system but the pain and effect it has on my life is worth the treatments. When I first got sick I was praying everyday for God to heal me because I had the faith that he could it was not until I changed my prayer to say please help with pain that I got diagnosed. Since then I see how this illness has made me a stronger more compassionate person. I don't want to be healed. Do I want my health to improve? Absolutely but this is part of who I am. I don't want to change me.

#5: 😲😲😲 Unless that person was just trying to hurt your feelings, I think #5 is more reflective of the relationship that person has with their parents, and how they have experienced "love" as being conditional and unstable. When people say stuff like that, it's really more about them than it is about you.

Also another problem with the “can I pray for you?” is that you’re assuming the person is also religious or that they believe in the same “God” or “higher power” as you do.
@bookwormkiara5468
@bookwormkiara5468 5 лет назад
Honestly, I don't assume someone believes the same as me if I ever ask to pray for them. It's not about them having the same faith; I want to pray for people I care about, regardless. There have been people who don't believe the same but still appreciate someone caring enough to pray for them. You don't have to believe the same for me to pray for you.

I’m really glad that you brought up the comment on adoption because I am adopted, and while I was growing up, so many times people would ask me, “how do you feel knowing your parents didn’t want you” and I was already dealing with that in my own head, so for someone to say that outlawed, it scarred me inside and just cemented all of these bad feelings that I had about myself. So, I’m really glad that you touched on that, because it’s never okay to tell someone, that they were lucky to be kept, or that you weren’t wanted

THANK YOU for talking about the hurtfulness of people asking to pray for folks with disabilities! I once had the most awkward interaction with a stranger in Target because he could tell I was in a lot of pain that day (I have chronic pain from a back injury and Late-Stage Lyme Disease - and some resulting mobility issues). He asked if I was okay or needed help, which is kind and totally fine, but after we talked about my situation for a bit, he asked if he could pray for me. It was news to me, but apparently he meant right NOW, so he put his hands on my shoulders (no consent given), closed his eyes, bowed his head, and said a very cliche prayer out loud in the middle of the beauty department. When he was done, he gave me a once-over and asked IF I FELT ANY DIFFERENTLY!!! Like no, my pain did not go away because you tried to BE Jesus at me?!?

You would think after 48 years things would not surprise me as much as they do but the ignorance of some people still shocks me. I am glad you are in a good place now Molly, and although my issues are not the same, I can understand some of the struggle. I have severe crohn's disease which has caused me a lot of issues over the years, and left me in pain on a daily basis. I get asked all the time "how do you handle it so well" and I tell people, "I don't recall being given an option". I can look at the glass as half empty or half full. If I look at it as half empty, I'm not going to enjoy the good days and good times I DO have. As I have told my doctors and others, If I let it make me depressed, then it's won. And I will never let it win. Have a great Thanksgiving, (another Canuck here!!)

I understand. Back in December I suddenly went blind for three weeks and as a result I have damaged eyes. I've had people who knows about my condition and other unknowns "pray" for me. I went through a short moment of feelingly angry but I've come to accept my vision will forever be damaged due to parts of my optic nerve dying. I've also have had the "eye transplant" brought up to me.. I may not be completely blind but in the short few months I've had vision loss.. I've had a lot these happen to me.
