I still use a flip phone, cut my own hair, drive a used 2012 car, and shop at thrift stores. I used to get regular facials and use skin care. But, stopped that!!
I just started cutting my own hair, I just twist it in a ponytail and chop, if it looks bad I wear a hat. I look for good quality second hand shoes, boots and clothes, it is much more interesting shopping this way, and better for the environment.
Thirty plus years TV free, no cable, no internet. No stove/oven No clothes dryer No cosmetics No salon visits No shampoo/conditioner No Fast Fashion No new car No junk food And my favorite, keeping track of No Spend Days. I'm on the mend, but as soon as I'm able will be back decluttering my basement. Planning to get rid of 75% of what's down there.
Wowzers you're an inspiration for sure! We love the idea of "no spend" days. We'll be adding that to our minimalist routine. We're big snackers, so we're always going to the shops to indulge in something. 😂
Thank you! We appreciate you saying this SO much. We love making these videos, so knowing there are people our there who enjoy them is icing on the cake! 🥰
My husband cuts my hair now. I stopped wearing makeup and also reduced the number of products I use for skin care. My skin has never looked better. I've stopped dying my hair and has embraced the natural aging process. I've cleared out 90% of my closet (and I still need to do some more clearing). Every purchase now is very thoughtful and intentional. I'm looking to downside my house. I've sold one of our cars. We work from home, so there's no point in having 2 cars. Our families think we're odd, but that's okay. We're so much happier as the result.
Wow, that's amazing. you should be making videos to encourage others. 😎 You've made such good inroads it's no wonder you're so much happier. Your families can think you odd, but so what. you're happy! 🌻❤️
I rarely get any out of house skin treatments, or manicures/pedicures, and I no longer colour my hair. I adopted a wardrobe uniform and keep minimal clothes.
It's amazing how little we can afford and still be happy and look good, too. After all, being frugal doesn't mean you have to look like a hippie who spent too long at Woodstock. 🤣
Miles 🤩🤩 Cats are natures minimalists….sunbeam, string, and a couple of good hoomans is all any purr needs for a happy life 😂😂 ( BTW Ang, you’re not going grey…you’re going platinum-at least that’s what I tell folks about my hair 😆)
I have always had my hair in a bob or a pixie. Once a few years ago, I decided to buy some clippers and buzz my hair. I discovered immediately that a nicely shaped head really helps, lol! So, I grew it back out. It also explained why my haircuts never really looked great. My head is misshapen, lol. Eh, you learn to live with it. Unfortunately, it’s not the only misshapen body part I have. But I can cover it up with hair at least.
I was also a buzz-cut at-home gal back in the day. I stopped shaving my hair a few years ago, mainly because I love my hairdresser (we have awesome chats). She recently started renting a chair at a salon in the Mount Nelson Hotel (The Nellie, as we locals call it), which has taken the experience next level. 😁
Greetings (again!) from Australia! I haven't been to the hairdresser since about March as I've been growing my hair. I used a roots spray from the supermarket to blend the greys. I very rarely use my car, preferring to walk to the corner shop and sometimes the grocery store. Use a shampoo bar on the odd occasion. Sometimes I wear a BB cream because it has an spf 30 in it which protects my skin against the hot sun in summer. When I do buy clothes it's from one of our charity op shops so the money goes to a good cause. I enjoy eating out with friends, that's my only indulgence. Quite frugal really and live within my means. Just LOVE the footage of Miles! He is simply beautiful 😍
Wow, you have your frugal dialed in! Eating out is also our main indulgence. Glad you enjoyed the Miles footage. He's such a cutie, so we figured we'd give him some airtime. 😍
Hello, Gen-X-ers!! 😄😄 Great tips! I stopped having my hair professionally cut 30+ years ago. My husband gives me a good blunt cut below the shoulders every so often. Otherwise I’ve learned how to trim and layer it a bit by watching RU-vid. My cosmetic (and skin tonic) of choice is CASTOR OIL. If you research it, you’ll never use anything else again. It is a healing balm and perfect moisturizer. You two are SO Right about moisturizing your skin from the inside out. Besides drinking water, consuming sufficient fats (mostly Olive Oil) is crucial. Incidentally, when I stopped eating butter and switched to olive oil at age 30, ALL unsightly veins in my legs DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY within six months. I’ve never looked back! I so love the fact that Miles 😸appreciates your proximity to him - that’s a BIG +. For another subject perhaps you could speak about how you apply minimalism in the kitchen and in the preparation of food…. Wishing you prosperity and Abundance Within 😊 -V (a Boomer)
Hello Boomer friend! Interestingly, Sporty's new Ayurvedic doctor has prescribed castor for her as part of a weekly internal treatment. We'll definitely look at using it on our skin as well. We do use a lot of olive oil, another thing her doctor recommends. We're busy ironing out our content calendar at the mo, and minimalist food prep will absolutely be a part of it! ❤😀
I use castor oil every night before bed. I put some in my belly button and then apply to face, neck, underarms and wherever else I feel it's needed. It's incredible!
I had mostly dry skin, and stopped using normal shower gels and shampoo. Just some of a good soap and shampoo block soap, and cleaning My bath became so easy and my skin is not dry anymore. Maybe oiling my body every two weeks like a Luxus Moment sundays. Thats it
Keep it simple, right!? Sporty's skin is also back to normal (it used to be dry) since she started with oil massages. No more body lotion in our house. 🙂
Now that you have no furniture, you can think about whether your backs require a comfortable chair for each of you. You could do your lounging on your bed, of course (if you have one) with your back leaning against the wall. Henry Thoreau had a bed with mattress, 3 plain wooden chairs and a desk (or was it a table?) in his cabin in the woods. People walking by would stop to chat; not a bad thing when there's no modern communication like we have. Otherwise I think he would have only 1 chair. In my neighborhood people get rid of chairs, tables, dressers, etc. frequently. So they are free by the dumpster. I could not live without a comfortable chair because of my cranky back. I have looked like a shoe minimalist (I use 1 pair of sneakers and 1 pair of flip flops) for 2 years now but the truth is my feet are very hard to fit. My brother thinks I'm frugal but a lot of consumer goods just don't interest me.
That's exactly right. Mostly sit without support and then sometimes (in the evening) we'll use yoga chairs or lean against the wall. As for your cranky back, take a look at this video. :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v61FAXmCXEc.html As Ellen Langer says, your potential is unknowable.
I dont think I could get rid of my furnitures but Ive started sitting on the rug when I watch tv cos other wise Ive been staying in my coach for hours and beeing lazy. Im only 43 and so stiff. I try to reduce the hours in front of the tv. But I just dont know what to do with my free time. I guess most of us are really dependent of our screens. So thats why Im here watching for some inspiration. 😊hugs Caroline from Sweden ❤
Well, Caroline, thank you so much because you've just inspired an idea for a video: What to do instead of sitting on the couch watching TV. Kudos for sitting on the floor more, though; that alone will stand you in good stead as you age. Sending hugs back from Cape Town. 🌻❤
@@MostlyMindful Oh wonderful! Im looking forward to see your videos. 😀yes I noticed after I sat on the floor that my back was feeling stronger 🙂thank you for your answer 🫠🥰
@@MostlyMindful I have another thought. How to get rid of bad habits and get healthy ones. I have problem with getting new healthy habits. I feel like Im stuck. You know, eating junk food, sugar, binge watching, less exercise, negative thoughts, anxiety...and not much to do. How do I start with one good habit and not quitting after a while. 😀do you have any good ideas 🙂
@@carolinefasth4030 Our best advice is to get the Heroic app. We've been using it since 2022, and it's helped us improve on so many levels. Here's a review Sporty wrote (it also has our video review embedded). You can try it free for 30 days, and if you decide to buy it, it's really not that expensive. :) www.angelagayehorn.com/heroic-app/ Brian Johnson, the founder of Heroic, has a ton of easily actionable wisdom on habits and how to install them.
Hi girls(from a 67 lady), always a pleasure to hear and see from you. I have reduced everything sooo much mainly because I got tired of waisting my time. I used to dye my hair every 18 days by myself. I stopped four years ago and now I go to the hairdresser to highlight it. Here where I live is quite quick, on appointment and in less than one hour I'm out
Time is our most valuable asset - so going to the hairdresser makes so much sense. If we had to dye Sporty's hair at home, a) she'd look terrible, haha, and b) it would take ages because we'd also have to clean up afterward. So not worth it! Thanks for stopping by! 😀
Thank you for subscribing! We appreciate you ❤ Happy that you're enjoying our down-to-earth approach (tbh we don't have the know-how to portray an Instagram-reel life anyway lol).
I don’t think I could live without furniture however I do only have soap for my skin and I gave up make up. No t.v. Now if it was just me I could buy less food.my husband of 56 years is a meat eater. I also like my hair color. Grey lol. I love less and I cut my own hair… you girls are great
You're great for stopping by and commenting! Thank you! Living without furniture isn't for everyone. Besides, you can still enjoy the benefits of time on the floor even if you do have a bed, sofa, etc. It just take discipline to not default to the couch 😅
Ha ha ha, we decided to give Miles some airtime for this one since there've been such great comments about him. We'll be sure to add a few in the next video. They make us laugh too 😂
The only thing I do (so far) is I have a bed which is also my couch, a craft table , two chairs and a filing cabinet (for my art supplies, journals and toiletries. I would love to be able to sleep and sit on the floor but at 71, I think it may be a little late to start??
I am 68 and I sleep on the floor and it is very comfortable. I ahve a couple of camping mats strapped together. If you want to try sleeping on the floor I recommend: - do NOT buy a cotton filled futon (lots of wrok, it packs down to become like a sandbag AND it mildewed something awful ) - best is a latex foam slab (best support) 3 to 5 inches thick - heavier poly foam is also good (I am in the US and have bought from foambymail - an excellent company - I have considered their minicel which is suitable for yoga mats but can be ordered thicker (I have thoguht of trying 2 inch in the "600" type foam) but I am so happy with my camping mat arrangement that I am not sure I will bother.
@@darkangelkate3950 one more note - heavier is more support and more durable (look for weight expressed as lbs per cubic foot, etc) - that does not mean necessarily firmer, firmness is a different factor. I find as a side sleeper that I would choose something firmer.
Diane - of course I am not Ang and Sporty but one significant choice in a floor chair is whether you want one which can be set with the back at various angles in relation to the seat. I had a lovely one that had four or five different angles from 90 degrees (perpendicular to the floor) to totally flat.
They're a couple of cheapies that we bought in India when we went to do a silent retreat with the Art of Living in Bangalore. Considering we bought them around Oct 2019, I'd say they're holding up pretty well. They also have sentimental value for us because they're from our Guru's Ashram. I think if you're planning to buy one, then Ros's suggestion is worth taking into account. 😄
I wont buy from the likes of Temu and Wish on ethical grounds - plus while the photos of their goods look fantastic, the quality is not. Several friends who have bought from these types of stores have been most disappointed. Waste of money too. So.e of my quality clothes are 30 years old and still look fine, in fact i got compliments on an old tea shirt the other day! 😂
ow. could not watch. because flicker. .... you're not using one of those toxic led lights are you? i said no! lol. invest in healthy stuff. dont spend your health to save money.
I'm so sorry. I completely forgot to add a title to the video to say there's flickering. But it's only for the first minute. We're really not sure what happened because it was only right at the beginning and then it stopped. We used our usual RU-vid-friendly lighting setup as well. Only thing we can think is that there's were ghostly visitors hanging aound for a bit. LOL
