Wally once encapsulated a quote from a later Ann Landers column which essentially answers a mother's question to her son about "Why are you hanging around such a kid?! He'll only bring you down..!" to the response: "Maybe I'm helping to 'bring him UP'!"

We use to watch 'Leave it to Beaver' as a family when I was a kid and whenever our father saw any of us kids acting in a devious or underhanded manner he would inevitably say, "Don't pull that Eddy Haskell nonsense in this house!". Which always ended in a long lecture about our responsibilities as American Citizens. Thanks as always, 'Super' Dave another great and inspiring episode!

@@jdsundstrom True. Look what happened to "Happy Days" when they expanded Fonzie's presence so much. It was OK for a while, but then it got old in a hurry, and then it got silly. Some characters need to remain in strictly supporting roles, and, in fact, that's what Eddie owes his fame to.

I think that Wally kept Eddie as a friend is because he saw some good in him. Also, perhaps besides Lumpy, Eddie didn't have many friends. I also believe that Eddie hung around with Wally because his homelife wasn't as good as Wally's. Not once in the series do I ever recall seeing either of Eddie's parents, nor did the adult Cleavers ever socialize with them as they did with the Rutherfords. I also believe that deep inside, Eddie considered the Beave as a little brother. Eddie was vunerable, putting up a tough guy front, afraid to show his soft side. I also believe that Ward understood Eddie, but just wasn't sure how to reach out to him. No matter what prank or scheme Eddie pulled on the Beave or Wally, he was always welcome in the Cleaver home. Had he been truly a bad seed, there's no way Ward and June would have put up with him, nor allow him near "The Boys".

Eddie's parents appeared in one or two episodes: his father appeared in an early one where Beaver had put a "voodoo curse" on Eddie, and in a later one where Eddie tried to join a commercial fishing crew. The Mom may have appeared a few times, as well, but I'm not sure. Eddie's father wasn't a bad father, he just seemed like he couldn't figure Eddie out the way that Ward could figure Wally and Beaver out. Maybe a little out of touch, but certainly not a bad guy.
@MrCJ-qz9dl

"Eddie's" father appeared at least twice. In season 6 the episode of "Eddie's" credit card being used to purchase "Wally's" car battery. "Eddie's" father called "Ward" out on it. "Eddie's" mother was also on that episode.

I recall in a San Francisco TV station talk show from decades ago where Jerry Mathers was the guest. Jerry spoke fondly of his years on Leave It To Beaver, with giving updates on some of the cast members, too. One aspect of that interview that always stood out with me: Jerry considered Ken Osmond as being the most talented actor in the cast, as Ken had to perform as two diametrically different characters, sometimes in the same scene; and do it convincingly for the TV audience.

If I remember right, on one episode, Ward Cleaver confronted Wally about being friends with 'that Eddie Haskell.' Good job Mr. Dave! I think Leave It To Beaver would have been a lot more dull without Eddie! Most shows need a "villain" or a "bad guy" Eddie was that guy! It's funny to me, when people are surprised he wasn't really like that in "real life". He was an actor, and according to Mr. Dow a damn good one!!🇺🇸🎥🎞🎬📺🚔

Absolutely, Todd! The show would NOT have been the same without Mr. Osmond.

Definetly a fan of this show and wanted Ward and June Cleaver for my family. I liked Eddie he was kind of sneaky but not that bad. Thanks for the video

Besides his acting talent, Ken also had a heckuva singing voice which he showed off on a "New LITB" episode in the 1980s, where Eddie Haskell embarks on a country music career after going through a mid-life crisis. On that show, his 2 real life sons (Eric & Christian) were perfect in their roles as Eddie's mischievous boys. LITB would not have been the same if someone else played Eddie.

The show is funny for the time. A little before my time. I wasn't born till 68. I still love all the old shows though.

I hear you. I was born in '64 and didn't catch LITB until later on when the show was in reruns. Still, like The Andy Griffith Show, the old shows are my favorite things to watch on TV these days.

I read before Ken Osmond was an LA cop. Can you imagine getting arrested by Ken Osmond and he starts talking in character as Eddie Haskell just after he's handcuffed you ? That'd suck worse.

Ken Osmond said he didn't like character in a reunion he did with rest of cast . He wasn't that way.

It's understandable that he felt that way. There are people who would feel the opposite simply because they like playing somebody totally opposite from them.

Nice video. I kind of thought he was like the character, because it seems that actors usually put some of themselves into the character. I always liked Eddie, because it was fun to see him act like such a jerk. I always find myself wishing he would have been on the show more than he was, though.
