Just FYI, if you plan to open a bank account in Finland, be prepared to wait. Nordea and OP require you to have a permanent address in Finland which you'll only get when your Migri (Finnish immigration) application is done. That can take 2 months, even for EU citizens. Also, Nordea takes around 8 weeks at the moment to open an account.

Hey Oliver, thanks for making such great and informational videos! I’m from Germany and I’m about to move to Finland in mid-August for two semesters with the Erasmus+ program to begin my Master‘s at University of Helsinki. I’ve just received and signed my tenancy agreement for one of the HOAS shared apartments in Linnoituksentie 10 that you’ve shown us in one of your videos! However, it is a fixed-term agreement until end of May and I’m wondering if examinations in Finnish universities are similar to German ones in terms of timing. Here in Germany, most exams take place right after the semester in our „holidays“, and if the same is true for the Finnish ones I’m gonna get into trouble if I have to move out during that time. I’ve seen that there‘s something called Examination and study week during the semester provided on the website but I’m not sure what this includes and thought that you might probably know ^^ Do you have any advise? Maybe this entire topic of timing and organization of semesters at Finnish universities would be interesting for others as well ^^ Thanks in advance and again, thanks for creating such great content!

Hello Oliver, I have a question please. When I was in Helsinki I had many different and delicious foods but I did not know what is considered the/a National Dish (had lots of fish) so may I ask what is a typical dish? Thanks.
@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 2 года назад
Oh thats is a good one. I would say salmon soup and cured salmon are really common. Cured salmon is graavilohi in Finnish but its also known as gravlax (original Swedish name). In general, we eat a lot of salmon based foods. In addition to fish, we eat a lot of meat based foods. Fresh vegetables and potatoes are also a big part of the cuisine (especially during the summer). Having said this, its really hard to point out any distinct national dishes but i think this page has a good list of popular foods that people really like: finland.fi/life-society/finnish-recipes/ Perhaps i need to make a video about this 😅

Hi Oliver, I'm currently preparing for my study at University of Helsinki this autumn and probably will need to apply for a bank account soon. do you have any video related to bank application in Finland? or how to choose the best bank for daily transaction.
@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 2 года назад
Hey Iaila and thanks for the question. Unfortunately i do not have a video about this topic. I might be doing one in the future but for now, its good to understand that most of the banks operating in Finland offer very similar services and the prices are very similar. So it should not matter much which bank you choose. Do note that in order to open a bank account, you need to have your Finnish personal ID, a residence permit for your studies AND you need to visit the bank physically at the local branch. So you cant open an account online. I recommend that you contact the bank before you visit the branch (to reserve a time slot and to make sure that you have all the documents that you need to have). I can personally recommend the following banks (i am or have been a customer with all of these at some point): - OP: www.op.fi/home-page - Danske Bank: danskebank.fi/en/for-you/for-you - Nordea: www.nordea.fi/en/ I hope this helps!

@@RoadtoFinnish i am a current student at Arcada studying Mechanical and Sustainable Engineering but i am planning to shift to nursing will it be a wise decision for better employment opportunities after graduation?
@RoadtoFinnish
@RoadtoFinnish 2 года назад
@@enamuddinbhuiyan5939 Both degrees will give you great work opportunities. However, if im being 100% honest, having an engineering degree will give you far better career opportunities in the future (as in salary development and wider options for jobs). There are massive amount of jobs available for nurses but the salaries do not unfortunately come even close to what engineers make even with a bachelors in engineering. This is even more true if you ever decide to get a master's degree in engineering. At this point you could potentially make multiple times (as in 2-3x) the money that you could do in nursing. Having said this, please note that money should not be the only thing that you consider when choosing your field. Money doesnt bring you any good if you do not enjoy your job. In fact, i personally know people who hate what they do even if they make over 5000 € per month as software developers. A few of my friends have in fact burned out in work simply because they cant stand their field. So instead of choosing your career based on recommendations by third parties or by statistics, i would simply follow my gut and study a topic that i truly enjoy. I hope this helps.
