Great content even years later. I'm a disabled vet, also have a business degree and did that while I could. So now I'm doing leather work and considering making a business. All of the little things that go into being successful is holding me back. So time will tell whether I can mentally handle it. Thanks for good info

@Richard Simons I don't, far cheaper to buy ready made than a custom item. Silver would be too heavy and expensive.

Great video-lots of helpful tips! One thing I’ve always wondered about in regards to self-run business is, what do you do about problem customers? Like ones who try to return everything they buy, or use/abuse the product and return it...then go online and leave bad reviews all over the place. Know what I mean? I’m just getting into leather crafting and hope to, someday, turn a hobby into a second career, but, dealing with folks like that seems a little overwhelming.

Wife and I are just in the initial stages of spinning up a crafting business (leather, jewelry, laser engraving, etc), so this video came at a great time. I've done startups before (mostly music/AV production related), but tangible goods is a whole different game. Your points helped sift out some of the chaff and focus on some highly relevant tasks that will definitely make a difference. Thanks!

Amazing vid. Thank you. Been working on turning our high end costume replica and prop and accessories, including custom leather. Been struggling trying to find that balance as I build the brand and also get a competitive price point. This vid reinforced a lot of the things I've known I've needed to do and helped with some pricing info so thank you.

I just have an etsy store, been on a hiatus as well, but during my time on my shop i would keep track to see what was being searched/trafficked, what time of year things were selling well or being looked up for. The only thing personally is the last point you brought out lol.. I suck at keeping up to date on Instagram and Facebook. When I do post on IG I'll get like 2-3 followers and then lose them the next day or two cuz I didn't upload anything.

Great video! I love the info. you are sharing. It is very encouraging! I'm a camera geek too. ( Canon EOS 80-d ;P) I really do ;love that you are so open about your work. I know there are many leather workers out there who have intentionally tried to lead me astray, being that I'm new to this media. I've been a seamstress since middle school. And cooked since elem. school. I've tried 100's of things. But, have gotten bored by many things except the few I've mentioned. I have a son who is online a lot who has had people discouraging him from trying new things.( Things they profit from.) In my opinion, people like you make the world go round! There will always be a different way of doing things. Noone is going to make the exact same wallet, bag etc...unless they are into mass production. And even then there will be little differences. Keep up the good work! Your encouragement will always help someone! And that indeed is an amazing thing!

how do we ship our products to the end customer bro ?
@whitandpark
@whitandpark 4 года назад
Shopify has a native shipping program that helps you print labels and everything. But there are some other nice apps like shipstation. But the basic process would be boxing up your product, getting a shipping label for the box from either UPS, USPS, or Fedex (or whatever the prominent shipping service is around you) and dropping it off👌🏼
@krishnendhuchakra6358
@krishnendhuchakra6358 4 года назад
Stock & Barrel Co Thank you! Could you do a video regarding shipment of products in detail? It would be really helpful for all of us .
@MatthewOchoa
@MatthewOchoa 5 лет назад
I’m confused. That pricing equation doesn’t add up. Say it’s about $24 for 1 sq ft of leather which could make a simple bifold wallet, and then include your thread and whatever else you use to make it, and then you add your time, let’s just say 3 hours @ $15/hour which would be $45, and then multiple all that by 2 to get your wholesale, that would be $140 for wholesale...then you times that by 2 to get your retail??? $280 for a wallet?? Can someone help me explain this because Stock and Barrel price their retail wallets at $57 or $58
@whitandpark
@whitandpark 5 лет назад
Keep in mind at higher volume your material and labor costs go will go down. So our material costs for a wallet can be around $8-$10, and our labor cost per wallet is around $15 (add in another 5-7 for shipping, etc...) our wholesale price(which is also our retail price) is right around ~$60. This is all different depending on the leather and product. But it hasn't always been that way. I used to sell our wallets for around $120. So don't sell yourself short, make sure you're making enough money and if you're able to drop costs in the future than go for it.
