5 Things You Should Be Told When Starting Medication for Anxiety and/or Depression | SSRI/SNRI. When being prescribed medications like Zoloft, prozac, Paxil, Cymbalta, lexapro, celesta or Effexor, its important to receive information about those medications so that you are taking them as safely as possible. Here’s my top 5 things I always discuss when prescribing these types of medications.

As Covid Vaccine mandates become more popular, I have a few thoughts as to what is ethically the right move here. Covid vaccination decreases spread of illness, and will decrease likelihood of transmission to patients. However the vaccine mandate may cause more nurses to leave already short staffed units, making working conditions more unsafe. And costing more lives in the end.

People prescribing these medications should explain exactly how they work so people are fully informed.

I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

There is a small portion of people who will respond quickly to SSRIs according to the psychiatrist who prescribed Celexa to me. I felt better in 3 days on a low dose of 5 mg. That was all I needed. By starting at a low dose, I avoided the anxiety stuff. I never needed to increase the dose. I did gain 30 lbs. so watch what you eat!

I was put on Celexa to help with anxiety, which the health system considers to be a symptom of depression. 4 weeks on celexa, I had to go to the ER on 3AM due to a severe panic attack and i couldn't wait til 6am for urgent care to open because I thought I was going to die. had to call an ambulance and everything horrible stuff. "To treat anxiety, we need to make it worse for a few weeks and cross are fingers that it was worth it." no thanks. also SSRIs don't work that fast, it doesn't matter how you think you "respond" to it. thats not enough time for it to work on your brain. placebo affect, which occurs in 25% (1 in 4) of SSRI users.

@audreyheart2180
@audreyheart2180 Год назад
@@podersa241 I am no authority / doctor; but I know neglect and abuse; and I know this deep sadness called depression. So, maybe your friend grew up in an environment where he wasn't respected or listened to, as much as he shdve. Like maybe, he didn't have a say, his feelings ignored; & was told abt his family leaving Belgium for the States, last minute... That and many other similar 'surprises' may have triggered the anxiety... Actions always speak louder than words; so no Words fr you or me, may heal your friend. He has to adapt to that which threatens his 'life': with fight; with flight; with freeze (sleep, hide, disappear, be drug-dependant), and/or with evolve (figure things out -spiritual healing is like personal style - it's unique and personal - it's like Covid virus mutating - fighting to survive). He can heal with good nutrition, clean air, enough sleep, maybe, drugs from a doctor who cares abt bad side effects on your kidney), and how abt making acquaintances with some really DECENT hardworking human beings? He also needs to cry out for help, to some Higher Power. Hope this helps .. 🧓🏼

@@audreyheart2180 Thank you I do not think he wants help because I have tried but in return he has insulted me so I have to push away. He has no drug habits that I know of but he is socially awkward. I noticed that his uncomfortable behavior makes him insult me. I am not having that. Also he does not believe in GOD nor is he open at this time. So I am slowly withdrawing until he leaves.. I feel bad but at the same time I have to protect myself but I thank you so much for your words. That was so very deep. I have to re-evaluate my friendship with the person. He knows I am a GOD loving woman and he tries to tap at that. He will leave in a few days and I am not sure if we will be friends or not.

I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression many years ago, but a year ago I was diagnosed with RA. I've been experiencing a lot of pain associated with the RA, and it really is debilitating. So, my rheumatologist prescribed Cymbalta to help with the aches and pains, so I can be more physically active, which will in turn, make my quality of life at least a bit more normal and pain-free. I started taking Cymbalta Friday (March 10, 2023). At first, I thought, "I should be just fine. I'll probably sleep better on it." That first night, I had a really hard time not only falling asleep but staying asleep. Took it the next day, and it made me feel nauseous, and kind of moody. Took it Sunday (today), and again felt sick to my stomach and had a really deep sense of depression, but not quite depression. I hope if I take it earlier in the day, I can get over feeling nausea within a few hours, so I don't spend all day, every day feeling sick. So far, I haven't experienced a lot of aches and pains, so at least it's already helping with that; I just really hope the difficulty with sleep and nausea go away quickly.

@@cin337 So, my rheumatologist has me taking 2 pills a day (which I think is 40mg). Doing much better! The nausea and moodiness seem to have abated. I am able to be more physically active, which actually is helping with my range of motion, strength and endurance. I still have a ways to go, and will probably never be completely back to normal, but not being in nonstop pain was the overall goal. My next goal is to increase my flexibility and strength. Cymbalta is worth it for my situation. Everyone is different and will respond differently to it. I have a coworker who is also taking Cymbalta and it doesn't do much for them and they're at a higher dose than I am. Then again, they're situation and mine are very different.

Forget that , I had the most extreme dry mouth in my life with off brand cymbalta felt so ill and sick sweats so much nausea could not eat tmj issues ears started ringing a lot tendinitis bad , insomnia like 3 hours of sleep and nightmares more anxiety than feeling depressed extreme brain fog appetite loss , headache so fatigued I started feeling helpless, low blood pressure,my body was sore everywhere, no way. ,no more I drop the mic on that , I stopped taking it before a full week was done , I did have some withdrawal symptoms but never again, I took that med for over 15 years I tried three half years ago and it made me feel really sick like that except I had extreme high blood pressure, I did however take the original brand cymbalta way different it actually at that time worked much better it does not work for me anymore I wonder if its bc I took it so long and the phramkeya changed some more chemicals in it as well , The side effects are worse than 15 20 years ago yeah it can muff you up for more than just a few days to get use to it , it's not for me that cymbalta

Yeah it’s frustrating, I’ve just had a nervous breakdown and started Zoloft 25mg low dose. First dose I IMMEDIATELY felt extreme calm, tiredness and relaxation like I took Xanax or something. I felt great, definitely not placebo. Day two felt pretty good, but day three felt EXTREME anxiety and agitation all day. Didn’t come in waves as a lot of people have said, it’s been constant but primarily when I first wake up. I’m on day 7 now, but hoping it’ll improve in the next few days or this week as I am barely eating or functioning. My only way to manage it has been Valium, as I am REALLY hoping this will work for me, as aside from the severe anxiety I’ve had no gross weird “chemical” side effects like I did with Prozac, Lexapro or some other tricyclic I tried.

The doctor also referred me to a therapist and I spoke with her yesterday she seems like a nice lady so I’m hoping that will help. I picked up the medication but I have yet to take it, I’m very afraid to take it. I just feel like medication is not going to solve my problem and may make it worse. I don’t want to be on antidepressants I just want my anxiety to go away, I am not depressed, I’m pretty content with my life good changes are happening for me at the moment I’ve come a long way, my problem is I just can’t shake this anxiety.

What they should tell you is the truth. Which is that we don't know much of anything. Anti depressants is essentially giving to people whos "car; read brain" won't start. So we just start pouring gasoline over a car with the tank lit open hoping some of it falls in and the car starts again. That about as much as we know. Obviously it's gonna smell and damage plastic parts, just the side effects.

I suggest taking a genetic test before taking an SSRI. For me, SSRI's would make me unbelievably agitated/aggressive and depressed, as well as cause chronic diarrhea and weird wavy/electrical sensations up and down my entire back which caused me to want to just lie down all day. After trying 4 or 5 different SSRI's and a new doctor, she decided to do a genetic test which revealed all SSRI's are completely off the table for me. Makes it a little bit more difficult to treat panic and anxiety, but we could have skipped the hellish side effects part of experimenting with SSRI's.
@ReneeStAmant

What kind of genetic test would reveal this?
@jasonsadler361
@jasonsadler361 7 месяцев назад
@@ReneeStAmant I’m not sure of the “type”, but was a test my provider ordered and was covered by my insurance. Listed out common medications and color-coded them red, green and yellow. I think they’re based on an aggregation of others who share the same genetic mutations. Outside of medications, my test also showed some other interesting info. I.e. the MTHFR mutation. I’ve been asking my dad to get it done because I bet we share the same mutation and might explain the heart issues he faced that stumped his cardiologists as to how he could have 98% blockages at 58 y/o while having been, and being, so fit and active all of his life. That’s much more on the speculative side of things on my part anyway, but it was pretty eye-opening to me after seeing the results and the mutations pairing up with a couple of the diagnoses I’ve already had, on top of the medications thing.

Great advice, from someone who is on Lexapro. Doctors should be telling people all of this, my doctor only mentioned possible loss of libido or stomach upset. The medication works great but these things are kinda essential to know. You can't just start and stop the medication willy nilly. Also therapy should also be recommended by doctors alongside medication. Some people might do well for just therapy on its own.

Also, my dr had me try phentermine to help with my post pardum weight, which was working great, but like i told her i asked for something to help with the moodiness of the phentermine, but as she says you cant take the both of them together which doesn't help me. So now, my 4th day on the zoloft, and its been wonky one day had me upbeat, next day was tired as crap & like no patience. I am just concerned that since i work with the public if I am tired all the time & cranky at my customers i could get talked to. There's a lot of discussion about whether one is better than the other but I think the important thing is to let your doctor pick the one that would supposedly fit you specifically (the choice is personalised to your needs and issues)

Can you get a blood test to show you are low on serotonin? There are also other brain chemicals like dopamine too, can we test for these things?

I took an anti depressant for the first time yesterday and I am hesitant to continue.. I'm worried about the side effects, plus I felt sedated with very low energy when I took the first one. I don't know what to do, as my doctor will call me in 2 weeks time for a check up. It made me have such low energy and concentration levels

Psychedelic’s definitely have potential to deal with mental health symptoms like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them again but it’s just so hard to source here

Psychedelics are the reason why i didn’t take my life when i was at my end. I was stripped of my ego and saw the beauty of life and interconnectivity and even though i still battle anxiety and depression, I’m doing better everyday and will never think in such a self destructive way again.

LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before."

The body is obviously saying “no.” Why would anyone prescribe this to people already struggling with anxiety and thoughts of self harm? Another thing they don’t tell you is that the body builds a tolerance to it and they give you a higher and higher dose which can make it nearly impossible for people to eventually taper off. I have seen people get serotonin syndrome where their limbs were flailing uncontrollably while they were in so much physical pain all because of taking SSRIs for years. I don’t get how everyone just accepts this as the go to treatment when there are so many other options now and it’s obviously so incompatible with the body. The other options need to be made available to everyone. I imagine pharmaceutical companies have a big influence on that.
@fordmustang5856
@fordmustang5856 Год назад
Your higher and higher dose comment is not true. I've been on effexor for 18 years and never went higher on the dosage. The correct dosage will balance out the chemicals in the brain.

You will never want to wake up in the morning. I’m an extreme morning person, used to wake up at 3:30am before my alarm. Now, I had to shift my whole schedule because I can’t seem to get out of bed. I’m not the only one why does nobody talk about this? My doctor said the time I take it won’t make a difference because the levels in my blood are constant once you’re adjusted to it.

Did you get any better? I had to quit taking it for multiple reasons and I don't really think I want another SSRI. I am also on suboxone for many years. I just read SSRI'S can cause serotonin toxicity if taken together. 2 of many was prestiq 1 year and Lexapro 2 months. I'm going to try to get off the suboxone after approximately 🔟 to 12 years and try to not take anything if possible! Long-term use of subs can cause even permanent damage and so can SSRI'S and I think the doctors are using us a lab rats to warp and manipulate our minds, bodies and souls.
