I have been taking ballet classes for five months at Richmond ballet. I had never set foot in a ballet class before now. I am 69 years old. The things that are challenges are: virtually everything. I am working on balance, turn out, leg extensions and general flexibility. It is not fun, but it is so great for me to work at it. Needless to say I am by far the oldest student in the class!

I think that is awesome and I hope although it is hard work you still find it fun! The best part of dancing is dancing!- if that makes sense! My adult ballet students constantly inspire me - I hope you continue dancing!

@@TheWholePointe Thank you. I love dancing. I have danced Argentine Tango in Buenos Aires, London and many cities in the US. I even attended the Argentine tango festival in Florence, and learned to speak a little Italian!. As for ballet, not having the chance for any type of performance, reduces my desire to get good at it. I told my ballet teacher that if get to do Swan Lake, I would like to play the part of the lake. I will lie down and turn blue. :-)

@@RPMDance Hi, its Ok to look and follow by internet, but is it for us older (I'm 69) not essential to be controlled from a teacher? In ALL the youtube clips I saw recently, the teacher in a class is going around and fixes mistakes made by the students. When I was young, I had a good space-feeling of my buddy, I had no problems to stay up side down on my head, knowing where I'm in the room. Well, about a year ago I tried to show-off with it and I had no, absolutely no feeling where I was in the space, the sensibility to it got totally lost. So I'm afraid, that without a fiscally present teacher, I should not start it, even if I would very much love to do it.

I’m not quite sure exactly what you mean by zipping the stomach area. I can see the 2 dancer’s stomachs tucking in. Is zipping the same as slightly tucking stomach? I just started watching your lessons to find common ground that I can apply to Argentine tango. I’ve danced Tango for years, and can already see applicable principles regarding “Posture, Placement, and Body Usage” and “Movement Motivation.” Thanks for the lesson tips!
@RPMDance
@RPMDance 6 лет назад
Daniel, when I speak of zipping or zippers I'm using that term as a visual image so to prevent dancers from either over tucking their stomach or swaying their back. I LOVE hearing that you find common ground with the RPM principles and can apply those principles to Tango. That's what we're ALL about! Do you have any video of you dancing Argentine tango where you can illustrate Movement Motivation or Posture, Placement, and Body Usage? I'd love to see that.
@danielrhodes8746
@danielrhodes8746 6 лет назад
Watching the Movement Motivation as the two dancers demonstrated in your lesson reminded me of a Tango principle referred to as “intention.” Picture one of your dancers holding the other dancer in an embrace, and through her body communicating the first movement and then “Placing” her foot down and transferring her weight on to her next foot.The energy communicated through the body to the other dancer’s body is much clearer and relaxed with the slight knee bend and fluid movement. The movement takes on an elegance or beauty. Just doing the patterns is not art. The Movement Motivation, Posture, and Placement is multidimensional as a body language that can communicate so much more than just the physical movement too. We can often sense how the other dancer feels, if they had a bad day, wants to dance, or feels obligated to dance....all sorts of things communicated. It does take the same amount of time that you mentioned to develop the skills, multiple times a week for a year and then a life long learning process that never ends and keeps giving more joy. If I find a way to communicate out of the public post, I may forward you a video, since you mentioned me sending one. I am really enjoying your lessons!

4:30-4:37 Get Rolfed and then come back to these words. They'll have an entirely different meaning. It's expensive, but worth it if you can find a competent Rolfer. It's not supposed to be painful, but I discovered there's certain parts that are diagonally opposing that experience excruciating pain where the counterpart feels fine. A chiropractor can't manipulate the body the way an experienced Rolfer can. Also, they teach you the Rolf walk, which has been beneficial to this current vessel.

@RPMDance
@RPMDance 5 лет назад
Amy, movement motivation would be understanding and implementing ways to move from the inside out. Not to think of the step or combination as "I put my leg there or I move my arm from here to there" but to think, I breathe into the step, where is my center of gravity and how do I use energy and movement patterns to accomplish the step(s) in a natural and organic way. So you would need to be aware of where your center of gravity is supposed to be for an effortless transfer of weight and ease of movement.

@kalikalad8954
@kalikalad8954 6 лет назад
Fox & Blox: It is generally understood that professional ballet dancers must start before age 10 or so. This is so that necessary changes in the body's shape (anatomy) can happen. Ballet dancers need turn-out: their hips must rotate for proper turn-out to be possible, and that can only happen before the dancer is finished growing. 13 is not too old for most boys, as they are not physically mature at that age. Girls tend to mature faster, so 13 is pretty much the oldest you can be as a beginner if you want to be a ballerina. I started actually studying ballet at 12, but I had been a gymnast since I was 6, so I had kind of a head start. If you have an athletic background, that will help. If you are serious about ballet as a career, you will need to work incredibly hard to get correct turn-out and good flexibility. Many professional dancers started dancing at 5 or 6 (or even younger)--you will have a lot of catching up to do. There are plenty of videos on RU-vid teaching you how to improve your turnout and flexibility. Best of luck!

Best shoes for beginners?
@ArtisticAsian1014
@ArtisticAsian1014 5 лет назад
Ambs H well beginners you only use ballet flats/slippers. Pointe shoes are for the advance students who had hours of practice.There's are several brand and types/slight variation in the shoe but for the most part their the same. The shoe has to be like a second skin, I think of it like a glove. It has to be snug enough so teacher can see the foot/toes movement but not too snug it's uncomfortable. The shoe either comes in leather or canvas. I've never tried canvas so I can't say much on it. Bothe leather and canvas have their pros and cons.Flats have either one full sole or two/split sole. My preference is split sole as I feel I have an easier time moving in them....when it comes down to it, it all about individual preference.

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus.
