depends on your skin type and each individual person. what works/worked for you might not for everyone, and coconut oil is pretty comedogenic for most people, as are many oils. still depends on skin type of course, but chances are you can find something better than a simple coconut oil
@@liamina3563 … i was just saying LMAO. wasn’t schooling her. just putting my own advice out there in case someone reads her comment. never said anything bad
There are three things my mother swears by and used all her life on her skin. 1, Rose water. 2, Vaseline and 3, oils. No treatments or spas or botox or any cosmetic surgery whatsoever. She looks the same as she did ~25-30 years ago.
What a beautiful lady you are! I appreciate the free information that RU-vid dermatologists give to us mortals. I used to wash my face with a “baking soda & olive oil” scrub. 😒 😑 Thanks to you & Dr. Dray, I now keep my skincare simplified by using Cerave wash, Retin-A cream & Cerave moisturizer at night. Glycolic acid lotion & sunscreen is my morning routine. My skin looks youthful & I get mistaken for being 12-15 years younger than I am.😃
I grew up in Jamaica and we have been using Vaseline and coconut oil on our skin since a child and I am in my late 70s and looks like 50s. Believe it or not those are better than the expensive garbage being sold in the department stores has ingredients you can't even pronounce. At least I know it's coconut oil made from our tress and Vaseline with no ingredients. As it said each of our skin type is different. Never used Baking soda than on my teeth.
Vaseline is absolutely amazing She means if you have acne prone skin it can cause more acne and acne makes scars so Vaseline can passively be harmful I have acne but Vaseline makes it even better so it really depends on your personal skin
I grew up using vaseline as a baby and as an adult. It always gave me smooth skin. Lemon does wonders for my skin it removes all the darks spots and clears my skin. Without any break outs. I use tissue oil. And olive oil all over my body and it looks smooth. So No. I'm not stopping. I'll be using vaseline on my baby too after I've given birth. I'm not buying any expensive products.
well, everyone's skin is different. I used to have pretty bad skin, breaking out all the time - and i started using coconut oil and vaseline on my face every day. I havent had a breakout for months and my skin looks really good. this doesn't mean it will work for everyone, but it can help for some people :))
Completely agree. Oils are fantastic for the skin, especially face. Everyone can put oil on their face. Key is to match up the right oil with your skin type. Haven't used anything put straight oil on my skin for years.
Oils like coconut and olive is anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial. It is good cheap products from nature, bacteria won't grow under it. In fact it should clense the skin anyway from harmful bacteria
12.50 she said "no kitchen oil or cooking oil" (coconut oil, sesame oil, olive oil this kind oil very comedogenic for many people), i love rosehip oil too.
me too! all of those plus many others, avocado, coconut sometimes, jojoba, macadamia i think ive used argan maybe.... ive never had a problem 10+ years and my skin looks amazing
@Star Girl yep ! :) i just buy 100% of the oil (no perfume, additives or any other ingredients in the bottle), usually cold pressed and yeh....i dont put them on everyday but when i do use them my skin looks great and i never had a problem :)
Tbh, I used lemon water in 1:3 ratio of lemon juice and water and it worked really really great on my skin. It made my skin smoother and softer. Also, these days vitamin c is getting huge popularity for skincare. Just giving my personal experience. Everyone's skin is different
this happened to me as well after using lemon toothpast and flour under my armpits for removing the darkness and OMG! it burnt me so bad that I wasn't myself for days that the armpits got more darker after that experience. most of these people on RU-vid just B**S with no any knowledge of what they tell us.
I agree with almost all of this... except for oils! I suffered from pretty severe acne since the age of 12. I switched to using oils ( to cleanse and also as my final "moisturizer" instead of any type of face cream) and my skin has never been clearer!! I rarely get breakouts at this point. I use grapeseed as my first cleanse and squalane, argan and rosehip seed oils everyday. Most people also think I look like I'm still in my late 20s or early thirties when I'm almost 40. Seems to be working for me!
Thank you, Dr. Liv. I am your new subscriber from the Philippines. As I watch and listen to you, I realize that my friends keep telling me to rub lemons on my underarm and use baking soda. Thankfully, I have not tried both and now will not try after watching your educational video on skin care. :-)
I am 31 but ppl think I am 24 The only thing i use is oil a lot oils coz especially argan oil and vitamins e oils, so no I will never stop I have been using over 9 yrs never had problems
Hello Can you help me to answer my question please. I have oily skin and using Argon oil for one week but no negative and no positive results but I scared bcz I have oily skin and maybe it is not safe for oily skin and can I use it just nightly bcz ppl said if we use Argon oil during the day sun will burn our skin because of the oil that we put on our skin
@@atifwali6180 See Dr. Youn's posts. He's honest, and you will be educated on all things beauty. He goes well with morning coffee. He's funny too, so no dark quiet corners. Take care.
@@atifwali6180 try castor oil its great I too have oily skin. Castor oil is very thick. put at night with few drops and in morning it will get completely absorbed.
Lemon: I often use two droplets of lemon and one spoon of honey to make a mask. It helps brighten your skin. You know that you don't apply the whole lemon juice on your face. And two droplets of organic acids don't decrease the pH value to below 6. I swear! In fact the pH of honey maybe is lower than two or three droplets of lemon. Oils: I have used rice brain oil, rosehip oil all my life. They are perfect for my dry skin. Toothpaste: Sometime I apply a very very small amount of white toothpaste directly onto my pimples at night (they rarely appear on my face anyway) and it make them go away faster. But I don't recommend it to everyone. Just my personal experience.
I use the following and alternate the following. I dont like using things with (less) chemicals. OMG correction I know there is chemicals in everything we eat and put in even in clothes what I meant was at least far less . olive oil, coconut oil, cbd oil and have had no issues with redness or pimples. I use it sparingly on my face and have gotten lots of compliments of my skin.
You're quite right about coconut oil being put in the hair and coming down to your face. It breaks me out immediately. I wake up the next day with acne in the area's you demonstrated.
mrnt1257 You are so right! It smells so wrong, She should come here and see where Vaseline comes from and where it’s manufactured. ,!! By product of the petrochemical process! Coconut oil has some studies now stating it has one of the smallest molecules with oils used on skin so it is a perfect carrier oil for chemicals like acids that are antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial or lipids etc. It MUST be cold pressed( no heat at all) and organic ( hopefully free of a lot of contaminants no one wants on their skin). So many affordable FAR more pleasant to use products ...but petroleum jelly??? I use it when plumbing, fencing etc ..If you mean Vaseline intensive care...10 years ago it was okay but so many better creams available ...3 months ago I bought it because it was heavily discounted.. but did after using it for a week threw it out. The smell it leaves is an off putting synthetic odour ...nothing like it was years ago....and it took abit of rubbing in for the bright yellow colour to turn cream and then disappear. I seemed to have changed...for the worse. After a few days I got around to looking at ingredients and saw it is manufactured in Thailand...a hot, humid country with slack pollution laws so I will never buy it again. Although it’s still Johnson and Johnson , it used to be made in a factory in Australia...I don’t know if the formulation has changed but Its awful ....there are some fantastic quality, pleasant to use and effective products out there , some are half the price!
Update the video! There are different varieties of oils. There are oils that are very greasy, so they are thick in texture that can remain on the skin like a membrane that you also mention, but (!!!) there are also semi-greasy and so on. For example, JOJOBA OIL which is very good for (just that!) for the skin! Not to forget, as a doctor, you must mention that we can all react differently. Some of us have sensitive skin and others - can have almost anything possible on the skin without getting any reactions. Long live JOJOBA oil and coconut oil! Thank you!
Hello, Ma'am. I'm a 13 years old girl from Bangladesh. I have really small small pimples or something like, after scratching those small things, I get smaller than rice (rice before getting cooked), in my nails. Those started to grow on my face since January of 2019. I thought if I scratch those they'll go away. I was so obsessed with scratching those. And I don't even used to skincare back then. I only used to apply body soap on my face and I don't used to apply any kind of moisturizer. Sometimes Johnson's baby cream which was not of good quality; sometimes, not often. In our country most of the products are bad and not real. So yeah after so much scratching I got so so many white white things on my face. Then I thought I should do some skincare. Then from September/ October 2020, I started to wash my face with himalaya neem face wash and used Johnson's baby cream; which I don't even know is real product or not. I had also stopped scratching those things on my face. And those things were reducing little by little too. But after some days I had started scratching again; it started to grow more and more. Oh yeah with those small small white things I got some big pimples too. They used to get big and I had stopped touching my face after getting worse when I had started to scratch again. They got big and started to dry but when I was washing my face or sleeping it broke. And there was a red scar. And again and again big pimples are growing in those red spots. I had switched my moisturizer in November/December; Johnson's baby cream to Johnson's baby lotion which I got from another country. My mother told me to use Johnson's baby soap in my face. So from January 2021 I've started to use Johnson's baby soap and Johnson's baby lotion on my face. Now you tell what to do. Also I've planned to go to a dermatologist since you can't see the condition of my face live/directly.
Actually I'm watching this video with lemons on my cheeks (I thought it would close my visible pores on the cheeks)and I'm now feeling guilty and suddenly feeling itchy
I have literally put all those things she mentioned in my face thinking that they would treat my acne but it got more and more worse. Now I know the reason. Why didn’t I discover you earlier?? 😭😭😭😭
0k mam as dermithology we suppost to take your advice but we need to now the thinks good for dry and black spots csars and pigmentation etc we need your advice as a doctor thanks
Oils are good for the skin, but most kitchen oils (coconut oil, olive oil, etc.) has been proven to be comedogenic for most people, especially people with acne. You are an exception, not the norm. I use oils all the time, but they were specifically formulated for my skin. Jojoba oil and almond oil are the better choice to use. I only use kitchen coconut oil in my hair.
So it's a good thing that I don't just put anything on my face other than what is needed. My mother also said that we should really take care of our skin while we are young. Really guys, aren't we so lucky that we had Dr. Liv? She genuinely just wanted us to learn and understand. I actually recommended your channel to my young cousins. God bless. ❤️
Tahnk you soo soo much for your compliments🥰I really appreciate that and I hope I was able to help you💕I‘m grateful you recommended my account to your cousin, I hope she’s going to like it too🌸🌸
I use grapeseed oil and almond oil as a body wash in the shower. I also use sea salt and oil soaks 2/wk. If feeling a little flakey I will mix shea butter with almond oil and a little coconut oil and apply.
I clean my face with coconut oil... And I use Organic Argan oil rose hip oil evening primrose oil and I have very good skin face....😊 No Soap 🧼 No no to all the the other fourth things but good very good oils am not agree 😯 Thanks 🙏 very good videos 😊🙏🌸 I talked about my experience ... with oils my skin look good and glowing skin

Shaad Dhillon It depends on where You live. Sun shines at night too in the north during summer. In winter we have sometimes one hour of light, per day, the rest of the 24 hours is dark.
I truly understand yo .you are dermatologist DIY is a big no no no. I am using vaseline baking soda ang coconut oil from own farm.ive got a wonderful skin.
I agree with everything but the oils. Coconut oil is the most comedogenic oil, for some people it’s not but for most it will clog pores. There are some oils that are non-comedogenic like grape seed, sunflower, evening primrose oil. These oils are high in omegas, have anti-inflammatory properties, and help replenish the skin barrier of rosacea skin type (they tend to have a compromised skin barrier because with frequent flushing, it causes their skin to dry out) oil helps to lock in the moisture. I am a licensed esthetician.
I disagree on the oil part! I've come up with an all-natural oil blend product that I'm about to market (6 years of research), which not only does wonders for me BUT also for those who've used it. ...Beautiful skin/lips/lipstick, however!
All natural (literally) Vegan Non-GMO Dark spots Anti-aging Supple UV protection Smooth Essential/natural oils Acne Moisturization Can be used for the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) Antioxidants Vitamins Essential fatty acids Minerals...Etc. I can't give you the name or too, too many details (trade secret) BUT I can tell you, I'm excited!
If you have acne issues and you don’t regularly wash your pillow case that may be your problem. Sometimes it’s diet that causes breakouts. Chocolate, for example is a huge catalyst for acne. I’m sorry but I strongly disagree with putting petroleum jelly on your face as it’s a highly toxic chemical known to cause cancer but I see nothing wrong with coconut oil or diluted lemon juice. Who puts toothpaste on their face? I have zero opinion about baking soda but I will mention that I have used it to remove buildup on my hair and that’s a very cool trick.
1 tablespoon of castor oil and 1 tablespoon of Almond oil mix together and place in a small container. Apply on your skin overnight and wash the next day or apply on your face stay 30 to 1 hour then wash normally with potable water .
Hi i've been trying a lot of medications before in fact i tried to have peel off, injection of my pimples on my face, several beauty products used, but does not work with my skin until i tried home remedy like lemon, petroleum jelly, vit E (myra) mix all of them and gradually gives glowing on my skin and gradually my pigmentation lessen. I really don't know why it works.
I think it depends on each individual. Lemon works for other people's skin so why stop. For those that lemons are doing harmful effects on their skin should stop. Each body has different reactions to everything. Same with coconut oil, others recover from skin diseases using coconut oil, some professionals tell that we should not put coconut oil on our faces. But I am thanking you for the knowledge that you are imparting. Those individuals who doesn't know much and can't decide can learn a lot.
But Oils aren't actually bad? In many Asian countries, we use different type of oils according to akin type and it works WELL. Also not to forget Oil cleansing
Thank u so much for your advice...to be honest the lady said must add Colgate and blue seal Vaseline..eish it burnt my skin..I had to go to Clicks to buy products..to clear my advice..well appreciated..keep up the good job...well said..thank you..
@@DrLivSkincare hi.zers an ayurvedic cream called" vicco turmeric cream"..its been used for very long and its got very gud reviews..but it contains paraben...and parabens have been linked to breast cancer..so i am hesitatng 2use it...please throw some light on its safety, basically concerning the parabens in it!thanks!
J MY Parabens in topical skin care products are very low. If you want to make sure, take a look at the order of the ingredients. Usually the lowest added ingredient falls towards the end so if that’s the case, it’s not a big deal. If it’s in the top few ingredients, then try to avoid it :)
i dont brush my teeth but i brush my teeth with colgate every morning. Then i will drink my water and lemon and put the lemon on my face for 5 mins. Next i apply cocunut oil on my face and also put abit of tea tree oil on my spots. To complete the face regime , i apply vaseline to lock in the moisture . I m doing all the wrong things. Guess i will look like an old hag soon . 😅
Wow!That was informative and interesting. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. Keep doing good and continue giving advice on the care of our skin ,especially the face. Our number one priority should be to protect our face .Thanks again.
She is saying things as a blanket... Lemon can be used in face pack. May be not directly. Oils .. she means kitchen oils not oils made for face... both are different chemically.
I’m gonna be 33.. and every time my husband and I went to process our taxes we get the same guy and every year and he gave a compliment.. he said I don’t really get aged he’ said I looked the same as the first time he saw me and I was 23 then. I have oily natural skin, back then I was trying to get rid of my natural skin oil.. but then later on the day I found out that you having a natural oily skin is having a natural moisturizer which I consider myself extremely lucky that I don’t have to put too many product on my face. I just need to boost my collagen and my hyaluronic acid which we already have but as we get aged our couldn’t produce enough.
I had a friend who taught me to use lemons on my face for scarring and it dip help because I would get dark scars. I'll stop now that I'm learning more (ps. there was no RU-vid back in those days).

I’ll truly recommend Murad products. For your eye wrinkles use Renewing Eye Cream and you’ll see the difference sooner than expected. I’ve been using it for years. They’re wonderful products.
I use a fenugreek & olive oil mixture for my hair. I use the leftover on my skin before a shower. It works beautifully and it makes me glow. If you're getting breakouts with oils, it's because you're not using it properly.
Honestly you're speaking the truth thank so much, people come on RU-vid and telling us this and that and you think that it's good when its going to harm us.
i feel u, I’ve been doing a lemon, baking soda, and honey face mask for like 2 months for dark spots and having been seeing good results, since it’s the summer time now tho i think im gonna stop using lemon and use turmeric instead
