Quite a shame that the judges didn't call those canvases out. I get that the artists have to work with the clients and sometimes artists screw up, but if a canvas screws someone over that's really unfair
Most of their work isn't what loses them the winning money and the title, it's the canvases and the fact they have to rely on the canvas which is a totally unpredictable thing in the whole game. But it can make it more "realistic" by giving them the experience of a bad canvas in hopes to teach them how to deal with someone they don't kick out of their shop
"He just googled the Empire State Building and the statue of liberty"...so you're saying he used references for accuracy instead of trying to draw exact landmarks FROM MEMORY.
For real! If you ask for a real world object, you can’t be upset if it looks like the real world object. Want the artist to do something creative? Don’t ask them to tattoo something anyone in New York can look out the window and see.
Kito's dismissal is absolute BS. The judges should have 100% stepped in the design phase, and then 100% stepped in when she started bouncing around while getting inked, and then 100% stepped in when she started berating him. No shop would put up with that BS.
Whos to say they wouldn’t if he pushed back? Like anything its what you make it, shes was being ridiculous and instead of putting his foot down he tried riding with it and it burned him. Is what it is, still a competition he needs to make a piece for.

facts. there should be some system to make sure that the artists can deny clients like they can in the real world. there also has to be something more they can do to make sure that the canvas know what they’re getting into and can’t be so picky. like they only get 6 hours and it’s for a challenge, if you want something specific go to an actual shop and pay for it.
This is a competition, the artists are trying harder than any shop ever will. Have a little faith the artist knows what they are doing and wants to win.
I'm agreeing with her to everything except the color. Even if the girl had forced the object placements, the line work wasn't that good to begin with. The fact that the judges never listen to the artists when they have genuine concerns or complaints about the canvases they had to work with. A lot of these tattoos aren’t even CLOSE to bad, and especially considering that the canvases are so incredibly picky and micro-managing the entire process the artists concerns should be taken into consideration when judging.
You'd be hard pressed to find anyone that can give you a tattoo of this caliber in my area, but I can say for a fact that ink shop customers are the worst fucking customers in the world. For context. I worked at a pizza hut for 10 years before I got my apprenticeship, and those customers look like angels now.
I'm a straight, white, male conservative who has struggled a lot with employment, but even I have to say that canvas has experienced years and years of white/class privilege. He is the male Karen, for sure. No matter how rude a customer service worker was, I'd never talk down to them like that guy. There should be Ink Master exceptions when a canvas gets like that.
@@blujay1608 - oh and don't worry, Anthony (the coach) allowed the artist to tatto him for the competition. It was a pixelated black and gray rose than turned out very clean. Nothing was lost.
The canvas wanted color in the first place, the artist offered a small b&g portion in the tattoo. Then artist came back with just full b&g no color. I think thats what happened
@@dalebagano6915 No the artist said that in order to get more detail he wants to do b&g to what the canvas agreed. It is possible that the canvas understood it as a small portion in b&g but if you watch the episode it is clear the artist is talking about doing it entirely in black and grey from the start.
One thing that ticks me about this show is the judging, one episode they will inform that they can't let the canvases take over and in others if they don't satisfsy their canvases they will be sent home. Why the inconsistency with judging?
It's because this show has an amazing premise but is dragged down by the constant Bravo style drama and nonsense, they make things up constantly, change rules when ever they need to, they do some of the stupidest challenges that aren't even about who the best is, and they will openly keep bad artists around if they fall under woman or not another tattooed white guy.( Edit: Best Examples are Seasons 4-7.)
The first tattoo could’ve been way better if she allowed the artist a little more freedom. If she didn’t continuously check it, it’d be finished. Do canvases not realize it’s a competition? If you want something specific & to your exact liking then go to a shop & pay for it???
I'm sick of seeing that scene in every compilation, and it could have been a great tattoo if she would have just let him do his thing. It's a scripted show, and they have an idea of who they want to win going into the season as a whole...but damn they could have made it less obvious. If you go to Ink Master to be a canvass, there is NO WAY that you can honestly think that you have alot of say so when there are themed challenges.
A lot of them don’t care that it’s a competition. “Because it’s going to be on my body FOREVER”, seems to be the common refrain... A lot of them have no idea how long or what it takes for tattooing. I know they’re supposed to ‘handle the client’ properly but, in the real world, these situations would only go so far.... It would be more than one sitting or they would go to another shop, if there were no artists that could ‘please’ the client

Kito got railroaded. It was impossible for him to deliver a good tattoo with his canvas micromanaging every line like that. He was right, in a real-world situation, he would have either declined to do the piece because he was clearly not a good fit for her, or he would have been able to giver her a design she actually liked because it wouldn't have to fit specific judging criteria.
"He just googled statue of liberty and empire state building!" Like do you want him to just go off memory and fuck it up?? Why wouldn't he google it to be as accurate as possible? 😂
The lady with the koi fish, if she had been in an actual parlor they would have kicked her out. I would have walked away from her before doing the tattoo and asked for a new canvas.
Thats so true, even Keto said in his own shop he would have asked her to leave but them having to tattoo the canvas provided no matter what is one of the rules the producers of the show use to make fake reality TV drama.

True. If your artist tells you something doesn't work, or it won't look good you should listen to them and find a compromise through talking. If you don't want that go get another tattoo artist. The fact that in this show they have to deal with costumers like this and then it's their fault and they get send home is just bs. Do the judges ever take into consideration that sometimes the canvas is just garbage? Like when the canvas complains about every detail and cant decide what they want and move around a lot its always the tattooist fault which seems a bit unfair sometimes.
The judges only care about the drama sometimes they say not to let the canvas walk all over you then other times the the artists get sent home for their canvases problems
They do, but the judges pay attention to how the artists handles it. There have been a lot of artists who got bad canvases who you see just argued back and forth, were stubborn, werent trying their hardest to work with the customer. Then later when at the judging, they go all "I just couldnt work with her, she/he was so tough, i tried hard..." and the judges watched. Like one season with this Blonde artist who would put on this fake, annoying, mousey high pitch voice. THe canvas was actually trying to work with her, but she wasnt having it, wouldnt bidge, told him to fuck off. Then told the judges "i tried to work with him, he was just too hard, this and that." and the judges called her out because they saw it, and saw the footage. also all the other artists called her out for lying, and not working with the canvas as best as she could. the problem is 9/10 times when there is a bad canvas, the artist dont do their very best to work with him/her, instead get into more of a back and forth, and an Ink Master doesnt do that.
I heard this show is over, but they should have had backup canvases for whenever the canvas is particularly difficult and has a bad attitude. If they change their mind too often, or cant sit still, or even their request is too unreasonable and they cant change their mind that should be reason to kick them out. And also preferably test the pain tolerance of each canvas beforehand, I suggest try tattooing with no ink, just the needle. Especially when they dont have any tattoos beforehand. As them not being able to sit still, or even through it at all can certainly ruin the work of the artist and make them lose unfairly. Its also a terrible time for those who have to put up with severe pain for hours, some of them do seem to be in really bad pain. I cant imagine those people were actually prepared for what they got into.
Did she not understand the soldiers cross would’ve been really difficult and large, plus she agreed to the tattoo and now she’s complaining that it’s to simple
Hi I would just like to say while I agree I feel like this was just more of the tattoos were around the same technical level so it came down to who didn't do what the artist wanted
Only thing I’d add is, she still said she likes the tattoo, the rest of the jury pushed this negative narrative onto her where she ended up just agreeing, she even said to him at the end she likes it but hey ho, I agree tho some of the canvases on here are bonkers...
Looking at average tattoo prices, these people are getting MINIMUM $500 tattoos by some of the best artists in the nation for free. I know it’s your skin and it’s there forever, but you gotta trust the person who knows more than you.

The only thing I hated about this show was that they gave too much importance to the human canvases. I get that a tattoo artist has to learn to listen and deal with clients, but some of these human canvases have been crazy or didn't seem to realize they are on Ink Master. Kitos' woman was verbally abusive and Mikes' man seemed like he didn't know he was on the show. If you want a tattoo to be exactly like you want, go and pay for it, doesn't production tell these people what to expect ? Sausage had a canvas that told him to his face ''idgaf about you winning this competition'' like wtf ? The one I'll never forget is Litza, a woman which honestly seemed straight up drunk or high and couldn't make a decision to save her life. Production needed to do better when picking the canvases or needed to educate the canvases better on what to expect on this show.
Yeah it should’ve been more like Skin Wars. The models in that actually had skin in the game. They would be eliminated too iirc. So they were always supportive of the designers and trying their best. Granted it’s not permanent, but it’s more fun to watch than “reeeeeeee” constantly.

7:16 - "You let your canvas beat you." Yeah, likely because this show doesn't emulate or even resemble the actual process of working in a tattoo shop. If an artist and client can't come to an agreement the end result should always be to let them go before any tatooing starts.
