I've always considered myself a healthy person and healthy eater...but lying in a hospital bed recovering from stage 3 bowel cancer surgery...I cried and cried because I knew I could do better. A lovely nurse I bonded with during my 9 day stay told me about Trim Healthy mama. I just ordered the books and logged on YT and searched for info and yours was the first video I clicked on. Your pep talk about grace really got to me. It's true that you stumble onto stuff just when you need it. Thank God. You're right....Yes it's community of mamas like us that give us hope and inspiration. I can't wait to read the books and start the plan...slowly, so I can really try to absorb all the changes that you talk about. I'm a mom of 4 year old twins...one of whom is a type 1 diabetic. I KNOW we can all benefit. You're so lovely and thank you so much for your encouragement and this video. ❤️
Love this video, Mandi! I have a friend who has had a hard time budging any weight. She started THM and has lost weight for the last 7 weeks. Starting tomorrow! Thank you!
I researched THM back in Jan 2016, and was immediately a purist! I did THM for 3 weeks and then realized I was doing Nutritional Ketosis (S meals only) and just went with it. I never faltered, not once! I was so impressed that with the knowledge of just how horrible sugar is for our bodies was more valuable than any "will power" I could exert myself. I lost 20 lbs (out of 25lbs I wanted to lose) and it was amazing! I certainly credit THM with my kickstart to health and healing. I found out we're expecting (surprise baby #3) and have definitely kicked my eating style out the window.. Once I hit 2nd trimester, I'll be back on THM (full Keto isn't going to be sustainable until after baby is born) and HOPEFULLY I'll be able to keep to less than 20lbs weight gain this pregnancy!
What an awesome loss! Way to go!! I find myself really wanting to be more purist in my pursuits. I've got a long way to go though. It's a whole new world for me so I'm baby stepping my way. Congratulations on your pregnancy! How very exciting!!
WOW - congrats! That's so great in 2.5 weeks. This is the time when your weight loss might hit the brakes though, so don't get discouraged. (I have lost 104 lbs in the past two years, and at 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months everything came to a screeching halt. I think our bodies try to hold on to the fat stores, but if you keep plugging away you will start losing again.) Perhaps don't weigh for awhile, and just look at how you feel, how your clothes fit, etc. Go you!
melraelee thanks I figured I would plateau for a bit because it slowed down the last couple days. I have 105# still to go so the journey is just starting for me.
Thank you SO much for this great encouragement! I'm on day 3 and feeling so discouraged. Watching your video has given me wind in my wings to keep going!! Thank you for everything you are doing to bless and encourage so many people!!😀
Thank you! I'm just starting on Trim Healthy Mama and I'm scared, nervous, and excited and your video has helped! Thank you for describing what it is like to be in a rut and for encouraging us to give ourselves GRACE. Have you posted your full story since this? I'd really like to hear it. Let me know! Thanks and blessings on you and yours!
This is my first time on your channel. Thank you for these 5 tips for beginners for THM: 1) Buy the book 2) Get a sweetener 3) Start with a meal to THM as a baby step. Breakfast is a good meal to start with and create simple S meals for about 3 days. 4) Plug into community to get support like Trim, Healthy Membership, listen to podcasts, etc. 5) Give yourself grace because you are learning a brand new way of eating. I've purchased the book and watched a few videos of ladies on this journey but I haven't actually taken a step yet. I need to get moving forward. Like you, I've had a lifetime of bad eating though the last several years I'm relearning to eat. It is still difficult. Keep me in prayer if you are able.
thank you for your videos on THM. I had done great last year till my milk supply tanked. I am trying a year later but struggling. I have watched some of your THM videos and it has helped me get back on track. I am on day 2 of doing it right!!!
YAY!! GO SARAH! Super proud of you, girl! I know it's not always easy. Temptation is everywhere. But I know when I'm on plan, I feel amazing. I hope you're finding that too!
Small changes, my friend. I think it's a story that so many of us can relate to as soooo many of us have been there. I fight the tendency to want to eat the SAD diet too because it's comfort. It's what I ate most all of my life. And it's hard to break those patterns. But it can be done. I'm cheering you on!
I love your cheese! ;) im a super big cheeseball, my family makes fun of me for it lol! but I don't care! thanks for the inspiring tips. I've been trying to lose weight, it's definitely a journey. off topic, but I ordered the Life-giving Home book finally, and it just came in today! I can't wait to implement all the ideas into my home. (and here comes my cheese...) thank you for being such an inspiration to me. you are literally changing the way I view my home, and serving my family and God thru my homemaking. you are changing my life girl! sorry I know that isn't about thm, I got off on a tangent lol.
Oh Hollie - I got tears. Seriously!! I can't tell you how encouraging those "cheesy" statements are to me. I think that making videos and sharing in a public way can be so intimidating at times. There is such a sense that every time I open the comments I may have someone trying to rip apart what I've shared. It can be scary sometimes because I often leave my heart in my videos. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Speaking of Life Giving Home - I've got to get the March video filmed! Thank you for that reminder! :)
It's so good! I fell off the wagon because we were away from home for nearly a month. But as soon as we were home, it was like climbing back into the saddle. So easy and so so good.
Yay!! That's awesome!! I used to really like Pepsi but can't even stomach the taste of it anymore because it is so darn sweet. And some things like cakes and cookies just don't taste nearly as good as they used too. I found myself actually preferring the taste of dark chocolate ... which is crazy because I was sold out to milk chocolate. You'll love THM!!
Thank you Mandy. I started THM awhile back and fell off and am trying to get back on. I joined the Facebook groups and just bought the membership off the website. You're are very much appreciated for putting out this information. How long have you been on plan?
When I filmed this video, it was around three years. I sort of took a break in the summer of 2017 after hitting a major stall. I learned of some health issues that likely contributed to that stall. So I sort of took a break up until now and at this point, I'm jumping back in. I kept up with the plan here and there but for the most part - just took a break. I realize that my body does the best on THM so I'm getting myself back on track. :)
I have a question about thm First off is this a good program for someone with liver problems? Secondly , I've heard that you have to buy a bunch of hard to find items like collagen items and weird expensive stuff. My health is enough stress on me right now without having to do a treasure hunt for ingredients.. is this true?
Really great questions! I would first just advise that you probably talk to your doctor first about the program. He or she can advise you on the best diet for your particular liver issues. However, I will say, that there have been many people on THM who have various situations with their health and it has been good for them. So as far as the weird, expensive ingredients - no no no. They are all optional but this plan can be done 100% without any special ingredients and simply using whole foods that you find in the grocery store. There are even whole menus available on Pinterest with no special ingredients and many recipes in the official THM cookbook require no special ingredients either. I use some ingredients like the collagen for some health reasons but when I don't have the extra money, I don't use it. I'll give you the link to a podcast that Serene and Pearle (the creators of THM) did just recently about this very topic. When they created THM, they were on VERY tiny budgets and did everything inexpensively. I will also say that they do have a website shop where you can purchase any of the special ingredients should you ever want to try something. It makes it easier than trying to source things locally. Here's a link to the podcast site. I couldn't like to the specific episode but it is episode 13: Eating Healthy Is Not Beyond Your Budget.
It's such a freeing way to eat. Make sure to read the book on how to do the program and it will really lay out the S and E meals for you. Pretty soon it will be easy peasy! The new cookbook has a really condensed version of the program and apparently you don't even need to purchase the plan book.
Oh yes! It's all about keeping your blood sugar stable. If you are on facebook, ask to join the official Trim Healthy Mama facebook group and I'm sure you'll see lots of success stories from diabetics.
Hi. I have the older book. I was never on the plan though. I think I heard someone talk about the book and purchased it but didn't crack it open because of the size. Sad I know. Is it suggested to read the whole book before starting? Also, since you have both books, is there a huge difference in the new book? Thank you
Hi Josette! So with either book, I would suggest reading the first few chapters. There you will learn the mechanics of the program, why you separate fuels and how and why you don't want to spike your blood sugar. Then there is a chapter on S fuel and one on E fuel. Those are the backbones of the program and really can't be done properly without reading those chapters. So I highly recommend reading the first few. The first book basically has a cookbook inside of it which gives the book most of its bulk. For the second book, they made a separate cookbook with some of those old recipes but it is mostly filled with new recipes. The subsequent chapters in both books are filled with higher learning. Things specific to women who are pregnant, men, how Serene and Pearle do the plan, vitamins and so much more. I think the first book has some really valuable chapters that aren't in the first book so I'm actually glad to have both. So just read those first few chapters and you'll be off to the races! :) I will also mention that the first book is a bit more concise. They made things a little easier to understand which I think many mama's appreciated. But I learned the program with the first book and still refer to it often. I hope that helps!
Yay!! So super excited for you! I would for sure take a photo and then take them periodically throughout your journey - maybe once a month. Pictures don't lie! Sometimes it feels you haven't lost but really you can see a difference in the photos.
I'd also recommend to get the newest plan book as well. The sisters are both wearing white outfits and there is some pretty blue on the book. The older book will give you the same information (it's how I learned THM) but the new book is updated and a little more concise.
