Thanks for the wise words and guidelines. It makes a difference. I remember seeing a video of people doing a cardboard testimony night to How He Loves Us by David Crowder. It was powerful.

I generally always begin with a Scripture that pairs well with the songs for the evening. I choose songs that are more geared toward worship, not so much praise (although that is a part of it). I usually include a testimony from a Church member. And I always allow for an extended time of prayer for the people. (Also, I am starting to introduce the Shofar blast to our conservative congregation on these nights of worship!). I see these evenings as a great opportunity for me and the Worship Team to get to be creative and to grow in our team chemistry as we experience a more spontaneous approach to leading worship. Although, I do understand that is not the ultimate purpose for a Night of Worship! The purpose of these evenings is always to create an atmosphere that is conducive to God and man meeting together, seeking an environment of encounter.

I like to have a set list, and be ok with God letting us hang on a song for a while. We have a start time and no end time. We try to encourage ourselves and our congregation to use the opportunity for corporate worship like we wouldn’t usually see on Sunday’s.

Excellent info. One thing I would like to try is giving the congregation a chance to engage, by having a segment in the middle of the set where the congregation is invited to say a few words to express something they are Thankful for, or want to Praise God for, then go into a song that allows them to express that in singing.
