Had to post this after I learned the hard way😂. Couple months ago my wife asked “how did you spend $80 on comics this month” and I shrugged and said “good question”. My budget is $30 a month😂

I definitely had to calm it down on buying what others have. 1. I don't have the space 2. I can only read one book at a time anyway 3. Need to save money

Thanks for the tips, i collected 20 years ago lost a lot of valuable issues due to theft, and gave up collecting. I recently started collecting again mostly because i found my self needing a hobby. This has really helped me at least form a game plan.

Great tips! As a long time collector, you were pouring out the hard truth. Be selective. Find out what you like. Don't collect everything cause you'll end up with books you'll probably never read. I help myself by budgeting, like you mentioned. I also recycle. If I get a surplus of books in, I try and sell others that I know I won't miss. Room is a factor as well!

As a new collector, this is great info to have! My collection is mainly for stories and art that I love and want to see in their best format, whether it's an absolute edition, an ombnibus, or an artisan edition. If my purpose is just to read the story, it's mostly digital through hoopla or comixology or borrowing trades from the library

I’m new to collecting, as a kid I would maybe get one or two comics a year for birthdays or Christmas, I’ve recently got bitten by the bug and have been diving into the more recent stories going on right now. I appreciate this video, I definitely noticed I am having a lot of the same urges you had at the start and I feel like a got some good advice!

Great video, i’m currently taking a break from reading and collecting to give my wallet a break and have been trying not to watch any comic related channels to not scratch my urge to buy until the new year and this video has definitely helped me look at collecting different and how i don’t need everything and to better my spending habits so thanks for the advice👍🏽

You kind of gave it indirectly, but I feel one of the best tips you ever gave in a previous video was "patience saves pockets." Goes along with you don't need everything, two really good tips to live by in any hobby. I'd also add "don't start collecting original comic art"

100% - especially for DC fans. Get DCUI and wait six months to read EVERY page they print or get DCUI Ultra and wait one month to read it all. That patience will save you a fortune while still allowing you to read everything you want from DC.

Sometimes the smaller editions are better. I dont have a ton of omnis in my collection but every now and then if price and timing is right. I have that same DD yellow in tpbs. Great tips Bro

Set a Budget … buying all of the covers can break the bank

Your tip about not needing the most important format is so crucial. There is nothing better than going to a comic book store/book store and raiding the discount box. There are some stores like 2nd & charles that have literal isles of Trade Paper Backs for anywhere from $2-$10. Almost my entire collection is from discount bins. I almost exclusively buy TPBs because I can get an entire arc for the cost of a single issue.

One other thing I’d add to setting and keeping a budget is not to spec on books if you’re buying current. Buy what you like and the keys will follow. Sure every now and then it’s fun, but like other things, it’ll drain your budget quick and you’ll also end up with a lot of random books you have nothing to do with when it comes to organizing. I’ve recently went back through my collection and found I had books that now have value that were just read and put away at the time.

Another tip is don't feel bad about reading digital. When I first got into Comics I was pressured to buy all physical and don't Read on marvel an DC apps cuz it hurts the LCS. Save your money and not your shop is my new direction

Hell yea my guy dope tips from a dope tuber 💪😁. I got another tip 8 never pay over cover price foe a book. I never did but i bought one at a good price an older used book just to hear a reprint was coming. Tip number 9 be patient whales seem to come back. Tip 10 why multi dip? If i see a better format i sell the old and use that to get the new. I couldnt own 3 of the same story in multiple formats to me thats wasted money. But keep up the great content 💪😁 Bat buddy

And the other thing is to understand people like Omar, the majority of his books have been sent to him.... He did not have to pay for them where as the the majority of us most definitely would have too. The other thing to remember is if you have a room full of omnibus's odds are there going to sit there forever and be read maybe once and never again.... Only buy books that you know you're going to read over and over and over again.

I stopped buying new releases every week because it was draining my pockets and didn’t have any value long term . Now I’m just focused on keys which has been a lot better for me but to each their own .

I will always be a fan of a good library. Don't care if it's a local library, a digital service like Hoopla, or paid services like Marvel Unlimited/DC Universe. When I was getting back into comics around 2017 my local library had alot of great books on the shelves. Some outside my wheelhouse, but alot I could sink back into and catch up. Once I started running out of books I wanted to read I started into books I was told I would hate(Ms. Marvel, New 52 Wonder Woman), and found new characters/creative teams to enjoy(Brian Azzarello in general has been a treat anywhere I find him). Then I tried stuff I had zero interest in like Gotham Central. Something I always heard about, but going from Superheroes to just cops? Pssh. Who wants to read that? Yeah I ate more words on that one. Brubaker and Rucka hit some wild home runs with that, and I love finding them in other books. It's good to explore without breaking the wallet when you can.
