We use limes when making guacamole, chicken tortilla soup, Mexican street tacos, Margaritas, limeade, cucumber/lime detox drink. I put it in my mango cucumber salsa, and even though my husband’s favorite dessert is key lime pie, I use whatever limes I have. Chili lime chicken, cilantro lime shrimp, lime pound cake, cilantro lime rice. You can make a compound butter using lime and herbs and put it on corn or other foods such as fish. Creamy margarita popsicles are also good. I use limes in place of lemons quite often. So anything that you make that might ask for a squeeze of lemon, try lime instead. The best thing you can do with extra limes is give them to your friends and neighbors! Enjoy!
I am so happy I stumbled across this video. My husband and I have just started a lime orchard, I am happy with our climate (tropics) I learnt a lot from this video…we started with 80 plants
Like the Central Americans, I put lime juice in all kinds of soups and stews, even split pea soup. YUMMY!! Also, dipping fruit slices in lime juice first that you plan to preserve by drying, like apples and apricots for example, stops oxidation color changes (browning) and adds wonderful "secret" flavor to the finished product. :))
Even tho I can't grow the subject of this video, as always I live in Sylvania Ohio and cannot grow tropical plants, I learned a lot in this video. I am really glad I found your channel because ever since, my garden has been healthier and just generally better.
I live just north of Sydney, Australia and have grown limes for many years. They can be used as a substitute for lemons, can be frozen in ice cube trays, for later use or what I do with the bulk of mine is to make lime marmalade. Great for breakfast.
Love your videos. Thank you. Use all of the lime:- Dry the peel (first remove white flesh ) and store in glass jars. Dry peels can be powered and used in hundreds of different ways including lemonade, salts etc. Thick Lime pulp smoothies can be dried out as a fruit roll, full of vitamin C. This also stores well.
Good ways to use limes: in Persian meat/veg sauce over rice-BEST nutrition and taste! In Persia to convert limes to dried ‘limon-almonee’-spread bed sheets outside on hot summer days and spread out on top of sheets your limes to dry until brown...keeps for 10-20 years for stews/Persian food!
Hello from Tampa FL!!! Just started growing my own lil lime tree, you gave me so many ideas! CheerS! P.S - Make your own Margarita/Sour mix for cocktails with limes, agave and some spices. cant beat it !
I just love your videos. I live in the Virgin Islands so the tropical aspect is great for me. I’m trying to turn my property into a small farm and you are helping me so much. Thanks!!
Candied limes are also great, in cold water in summer for drinking, make a punch, use rind and juice in yoghurt; in cream and cream cheese as icing on muffins and cakes... lime juice ice cubes or homemade ice cream. I love limes and I'm expecting my first harvest soon! Very excited. Thanks for all your practical ideas and your great vlogging..😎
My favourite channel for tips on growing things. Thanks. I have a troubled lime tree here in hot Trinidad and I plan to follow your watering leads. Wanted to know what you do with all that produce...and to remind you to say thanks to the Creator Who uses you to make good use of His gifts. Freeze the juice in ice cubes, use as needed.
I love the way you teach how to take care of our garden love your videos going to try growing a lemon tree in a pot thank you for your information 🍋🍅🥕🥬🥒🥔
Great videos! Thank you for all the info and tips. When i have a lot of lemons, i juice them and bottle them with a small amount of salt to preserve for later. Also top the bottle with an inch of olive oil to prevent oxygen from touching and spoiling the juice. My mother and grandparents taught me this trick.
Thank you for your information on lime trees! I wish we had a warmer climate, or enough room to build a greenhouse, but who knows what our living room can do to a lime-tree ;) I would love to use lime in lots of hot dishes, always with fish, and chicken, and to use it for canning and fermenting food; and of course in lemonade, lime-pies, in apple-pies (or whatever fruit-pies really...) and as I saw in Italy: to sugar them! as a snack or in warm dishes. Dry them, use slices in kombucha, beer, even soft-drinks/sodas, tea... Well, I guess you have to distribute some pies around in your circle of friends and family ;) Take care, and happy growing!
@@Sunline7 We started just outside, and have wild lemon, kumquat, red orange, Meyer citrus, finger lime, djeroek poeroet, and Buddha's hand in summer in our garden, in pots. Last month we brought most of them in a colder room in our home, to give them a colder winter. In our living room are the citrus plants that need constant warmth. And they are still all super tiny :D from about 5 centimetres to maybe 40.
I know this video has been out a while but I just found you when I got interested in gardening again. Cant grow limes here as it gets way to cold and we get about 6 inches of raina year. One of north americas driest areas. But I can help with tips for what to eat them with :) carne asada tacos! It's beef steak cut thin then sliced into little strips and fried in a skillet. Then throw it in a corn fried tortilla squeeze your lime on top and add your favorite shredded cheese and veg on top mmm. I like mine with a pinch of chopped cilantro (water cress will substitute nicely) and chopped tomato and a bit of your favorite greens. Plain meat cheese and lime with cilantro is also awesome. Add hot sauce to taste. To go with it a chilled corona with a slice of lime jammed in the bottle. This awesome meal originates in mexico but us guys from the southwest usa eat it often. Your videos are great I just subscribed.
Make french crepes for breakfast or desert and add lime and honey onto them. It's my favorite of all the endless options out there for the common french crepe. A scoop of vanilla ice cream beside the crepe is also memorable. Enjoy.
Its actually a Persian Lime and developed in Persia (Iran). "Persian limes were first grown on a large scale in Persia (now known as Iran) and southern Iraq.
This man had inspired me to buy and plant so many trees I like a micro bacteria tablets they help improve the soils bio diversity and in turn keep It disease 🦠 free
Thanks mate. Can't wait to grow my own, this video will helps so much. I appreciate all of the videos. Tons of thumbs up. I use limes for my acid needs when cooking. Especially when making tacos and Thai food!! I love how limes and cilantro work so well together in all the variety of life.
Great videos ...you are one of my favorite horticulturalist. ..Everyone should be tuning in to your channel...Thank you for all the jewels you have shared with the world..much needed info at this time..Blessings
Great video with awesome tips. We just started our garden and love limes so a lime tree is in our future plans. Thank you for all you do . New sub here!, cheers!!!!!
Thai dishes use lime as its main ingrefient fior its soups and sauce. Since i love Thai foid, that was my main reason for growing lime trees in my garden. Unfortunately, my lime trees after several harvests die. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you so much for your great tips on growing a Lime tree! I have a beautiful lime tree & it fruits about over 500 limes a year! You see I live in Asia & we have a lot of rain! But we don’t water at all during the hot season. This makes the lime tree perform better. Oh by the way, I make lime pickle with my limes. It’s very delicious!
Making lime pickle is rather a long process, but I can give you a short jist. First I take about 30 medium sized ripe limes, wash them thoroughly with salt& then I wash them off again. Then, l put them in a glass bottle or bowl with 8 tablespoon of salt & dry them in the sun for about 10 days continuously. After that l drain the salt water, cut them into bite size pieces & make pickle with oil, chilli powder, spices & sugar. Always keep pickle immersed in oil in airtight bottle .
We in India makes pickles with spicy masala that is we grind cumin seeds ginger garlic red chilli powder and mustard seeds with vinegar and in pan heat mustard oil or any cooking oil add the ground mixture and stir fry for 2/3 minutes add lime cut to 8piecs n let it cook for a while cool it you can preserve it for months in jars and use it during rainy days its just super 😋😀😉 try it you can make sweet pickles also
One great thing to do with too many lemons or limes is slice them into wheels lay them out onto parchment paper on a large baking tray and freeze them. then they won't stick together and can be kept in a large freezer bag. Use them in drinks instead or with ice. You can freeze the juice after boiling it with sugar water for margaritas. (not that I would ever do that) ;) You can also freeze the juice directly in an ice cube tray then add it to anything melt it in salsa, add it to salad dressings, have it on fish or with mayo and some of those artichokes! Mmmmm! Very refreshing to have a frozen lime in just an ordinary glass of water. Good for you too! Enjoy your bountiful harvest!
Started fruit farming after watching ur videos, 3nd Year on have many acres of timber wood in making and few acres of mango , cheeko , custard apple , date growing in wood mulch soil, today I just planted 24 fruit Trees in my house garden and watching ur video to findout how to care for citrus , Life feels good, thanku for inspiration brother 😊
Hey Mark thanks for this! I just bought a Tahitian Lime from Bunnings and Im going to try and grow it in a pot. I was going to put the chook manure mulch on top do you think it will burn the plant? First time growing citrus so doing some research before I start.
Thanks for the info.... Love what you doin' keep it up... Lime aid is a good one. I live in the States and I found out that Fracking is an issue in Queensland as well.... Keep an eye out,...your farm is beautiful I'd hate to see it damaged... Cheers
Recently made some lime/jalapeno sauerkraut, it was amazing! Hey we just bought a property and i purchased 2x lime trees and 2x tahitian lime trees, it seems most of the soil is just road base, I was thinking just plant them in mounds of mature compost till we can get the soil; quality ammended, sound like the right thing to do Mark?
I love you videos however there is a place that tree will not grow is Zone 7B I have looked for number of years for tropical scuse me a citric fruit that will grow hair no citric fruit can we put in the ground here year around and grow temperatures can get down to five degrees here thank you for your video it is been very informative.
I recently bought a lime tree, added good soil cause my soil is very clayish and I have watered and used citrus fertilizer. This morning I went to water and saw a small bud but instead of it being green it was brown. Can you help me on why this would happen? The small line tree looks beautiful no yellow or curly leaves, no veins on the leaves.. should I be concerned 😟. Great video!!
Mojitos, specially with that mint you have , if you don't want to put rum, you can make it virgin that is without alcohol there are very refreshing too, that is how my wife takes hers.
I think the most obvious way to use limes is in guacamole or salsa. I also like to use it in Asian cooking. Let's say you make spicy Asian noodles, it is begging for some lime juice. or if you make an broth, you can cut the fat for the both with the acidity of the lime. I also like to make a nice chick pea chipotle dip. I add some lime juice in the end to make it more lively.
I prefer to rot the poultry manure first as it can burn the roots as it is very high in nitrogen and phosphate. I use it when it has broken down to a crumbly compost. The fresh cow muck you featured on your European trip does not burn unless it is mixed with urine. I knew a fruit grower who put rotted muck on bare earth strips where the trees grew and he grew cereal crops in between. He had a problem in rare dry years with too much nitrogen as it caused damage to the heart of the fruit.
