5 tips to INSTANTLY improve at Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 

Another tip: Learn Mario Kart 'lingo. If you like Mario Kart and want to learn more about it, it's best you learn the terms for certain things in the game so when you find a helpful video, you aren't lost. Here's some definitions, because I'm a fucking nerd. vvv Bagging Track - A track that gives an advantage to players who consistently slow down to get items, usually due to the high amount of shortcuts or the amount of power a shock dodge holds. Frontrunning Track - A track that gives an advantage to players who consistently stay in the front. Usually a track with little to no shortcuts, or a track with multiple shroomless shortcuts. Shroomless Shortcut - A shortcut that can be done without use of a mushroom or item that speeds you up. Shock dodge - When a player is not affected by a shock due to a circumstance. This could be being in a star, bullet bill, or just falling off the track at the perfect time. Invisibility Frames - The amount of frames after you get hit where you cannot be affected by an item again. Back (used in a sentence "i was backed by a green shell" or "i backed a green shell") - When someone throws an item behind themself. When used "I was backed", it means someone threw an item behind themself, and the person was hit. Trailed "I was trailed" - When you get too close to a player holding an item behind them, and you hit the item. Snaking - Repeatedly charging up mini turbos on a straight path by drifting left and right, sharply enough to charge a mini-turbo quickly, but not sharp enough to affect driving. these are just the ones i got off the top of my head, I'll edit this list if I think of more (or if someone replies and suggests me something to add)

1. Always pick Toad Circuit online

Honestly after getting smoked in lounge and blaming most my problems on lag or being unlucky I needed to hear that last bit. Also I just Followed the Twitch.

The part about luck is really true. Although there is the occasional race that is won or lost by a lucky item pull, most of the time my own blunders are what actually cause me to lose. It's rather surprising just how influential skillful driving and item play are. But if you've ever been in a room where one person just keeps winning over and over, you simply cannot chalk it up to them just getting lucky. In fact, if Mario Kart was solely a luck-based game, why even play it? Why not just flip a coin for a few hours and see how many correct guesses you can get?

PSA: This may be obvious but you dont have to pick Yoshi for the meta combo. Anyone in the same weight class and give the same stats as his will do just fine. Peach, Peachette, Daisy, and Birdo are also cosmetic options. Also, Cat Cruiser is an alternative to Teddy Buggy as they have the exact same stats, but Cat Cruiser has a higher invincibility stat. People say that Teddy Buggy has a smaller hurtbox but ive never seen any definitive proof of that mattering. (they both look as wide but cat cruiser is slightly longer) Regardless, both are meta so pick which one you like more.

I agree with Latias38 below, who mentioned that there are multiple characters with the same stats as Yoshi and multiple vehicles with the same stats as the Teddy Buggy. This is also true of the wheels and gliders. Theoretically, according to the stats anyway, if you run Daisy on a Cat Cruiser with a Cloud Glider, you are matching a Yoshi on a Teddy Buggy with a Paper Glider. However, it's important to note that the vehicles (and characters) with the same stats don't seem to feel the same while driving. It's good to try them and see which feels best for you. One example I noticed only yesterday was that I felt like Birdo and Daisy drove slightly differently. I'm not sure if it was my imagination or not. The Cat Cruiser has its own unique feel as well. Another consideration is how much a vehicle or character blocks your view. One reason the Paper Glider is more popular than the Parachute or Flower is its smaller visual profile. I switched from Birdo to Daisy last night because the huge bow on Birdo's head blocked me from seeing a banana peel on the road--with unfortunate results.

I use Yoshi Bike online, because it has the same stats as Teddy Buggy and happen to play much better with inward drift. I win quite often. It will be interesting to see as my VR hits 30K if I keep winning or if I have to learn outside drift.

I definetely need a video on the best combos for online! I play King Boo with the Teddy Buggy and roller tires but feel outclassed by other combinations. I have also seen people that say Yoshi, Birdo, Peachette and Daisy are on par when it comes to their stats but I never see people use Daisy.

yoshi pipe frame rollers is better imo very similar with the mktv glider - plus u can change the colors w the yoshi AND its an homage to the n64 version, i just like the feel more plus im not riding around on a teddybear

Me personally, I like to play as lightweights while also sticking with the meta. The characters I use is Koopa, Dry bones Shy Guy, Toad, Toadette, Tanuki Mario, Kamek, Luigi, and Inkling Boy on the teddybuggy

After wave 6, isn’t teddy buggy at a slight disadvantage compared to say pipe frame or cat cruiser ?

Does yoshi have slightly better stats than daisy, peach, peachette and Birdo or are they have all the same stats

Oh ill be the first to say im bad at this game, especially since im a 9000 vr player now getting pitted against 20k's. VERY humbling, still have alot to work on to getting better, but. Even then, my luck is atrocious 😂
