Hi Gerald, I’m a recent starter too. I will say that I’ve found that bottled beer will improve over time in the bottle and I’ve found a minimum of 3 weeks to get a good result. I’m using the carbonation drops, dead easy!

I will add this. I use the EZ flip, grolsch style bottles. I can bottle a five gallon batch with 20, 32 oz bottles. The beer is portable unlike a keg and never goes flat, even if only partially consumed.

Brilliant video. I just sent my friend a birthday package of bottling gear that was directly influenced by this video! Didn't get the capper or the jet bottle washer but the tree, dispenser, bottling wand and a siphon to use it with are all inspired by you 😉 Happy brewing!

Another Tip !! on your bottle sanitiser/washer put a flat washer ( stainless steel ) snug fit over the bit that the bottle pushes down on to squirt ( as there are three small lugs there that the bottle pushes down on. They wear out when using glass bottles as they are plastic( plastic bottles are fine and don't need a washer)and eventually ruin your washer in a short time ! The top of the bottle then pushes down on the flat washer not wearing the lugs out .A tip I learnt from my local Brew shop .

Cheers Gash, I bottle from the keg with my own home made counter pressure filler but still need pretty much the same kit. I've got the bottle tree and the bottle sterilizer and a good bench capper but will look at a jet washer for my bottles, looks ways faster 😎 thanks for sharing this im sure plenty of people will have learnt from this vid. Cheers Mate, Mike 🍻🍻

Thank you for the valuable information and demonstrations. I bottle exclusively and I have all the equipment you displayed, with the exception of the silicone hose and the bottle washer. You are so right about being organised! I actually rinse my bottles directly after drinking and them stand upside down on the sill of the kitchen sink and transfer to bottle tree the next day. I also wash my bottles in warm water with SaniAid the day before bottling. One more item I have is a bottle brush, which I have cut the loop off the handle and use it in my battery drill to thoroughly wash bottles in the SaniAid before rinsing. Thanks again. Cheers. Jeff

Some handy tips I love the hose idea the next thing I'll be doing. I put my milk crates on an angle that way you can stack the bottles without them falling over because I don't have a bottle tree 🎄 then I also use my milk crates to carry the bottles and stack them. I still use a sugar scoop and the best bottles are grolsch flip top bottling is so easy not having to cap👍🍻🍻🍻

After 5 years, my brew partner and I still agree that the Jet Bottle Washer is the best/most cost effective purchase we've made. it cleans bottles, kegs, carboys, buckets, siphons, lines and easily hooks up to the outdoor hose or threaded faucet. Even if you aren't bottling, it is a necessity for home brewers and only costs $15.

Good tip on the hose and wand instead of the tap.I don't mind bottling. But if one thing made a difference for me, it was bulk priming. Sugaring 4 different bottles was a pain. Now I just add 160g plain sugar into the FV, stir, leave it while I clean the bottles. I started capping and that is slow with stubbies, when I've been used to lids and flip tops with bigger bottles. Won't be doing to many stubbies in the future.

I bought a bench capper yesterday after I was bottling a current batch and I hit some donated bottles that have a shorter top kneck where the hand capper use to clamp the cap on to the bottle. Ruined the day that did so glad it happened on a small batch, though.

Fantastic one, mate. Star San removes an extra swilling step and that's a very good thing. Here's my extras: * Put a torch on an upturned pint glass behind the bottles so you can see the fill level in the bottle. So many of the bottles I've got are so dark and whoops, sticky floor. * If you've got a wing capper as you're filling the next bottle slip on a cap and put the bottles in a line, then you can do what I call a "bombing run" and walk over the top of them, straddling the line and capping - it's like you're doing bench presses upside down. I find it even quicker than a bench capper. Oh yes - the towel on the floor, good man. So many times I've got some spillage and then the bottles leave sticky rings on things. I always mean to put everything on a tray, never do. Cheers.

I will put a baking sheet under when I bottle or even easier open up the dishwasher and bottle over that. The door isn't strong enough to hold a whole case of bottles but if you are only bottling a gallon and kegging the rest it saves the floor from getting sticky.

Watched this video a few weeks ago. (Been making wine for several years, bottled first batch of beer just before watching this.) A couple weeks after watching, ordered: a bottle washer, bottle rinser (vianator?), and a bottle tree. Just came today. Searched for and came back to this vid to say "Thank you." Washer does better job in seconds than I could do in minutes before. The one I got has an end that can easily be also used for siphon tube. Total was just over $50usd. HUGE DIFFERENCE! Thanks again.

I'm still very new to home brew but bottle tree is a must have. I was like you... $62 AUD (tree for 63 bottles + vinator) doesn't seem worth it, I can make do. But I ended up getting one with some spare xmas cash. Now I'm of the opinion that ANYTHING that streamlines your brew / bottling day is a must have, less stuffing around more drinking. *Adds bottle rinser to cart* only item I don't have. Cheers

Cool video, I am using almost the same steps, but always takes a lot of time. Only difference is I am attaching the bottling pipe not to the hose, but to the fermenter's tap, so I am moving bottle to the pipe, not pipe to the bottles;) May be I need to try your technique. Also, between tap and pipe, I am placing a filter. One way to make it faster is using swing top bottles - this will save some time with the caper.

I don't have the space or money for a corny keg setup so I started last year replacing out bottles with mini kegs. I have a little minikeg tap with co2 bulbs to keep the kegs pressurised. I still always bottle some of the batch for sharing and if I want to take some away somewhere but its no problem for about 10 bottles.

This tip works to let you bottle in the sink instead of on the floor. Get a milk crate or a sturdy box and put the bottling pail on that next to the sink. Use a very short piece of hose for the bottling wand or just go straight from the spigot on the bottling pail. I brew small batches, so it's easy to lift the pail onto the box. Maybe it will be too hard if the pail is really heavy? If you can do it you won't have to be on the floor and there will not be anything to clean when you are done because the bottles will be filled in the sink.

@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 4 года назад
The wing capper depends on your bottles, I can say from experience some bottles just dont like wing cappers. Bench cappers work with everything from screw tops to champagne bottles. You can get by with a hammer capper if you like, but much safer with a bench! Cheers!

So...in terms of putting the beer into the bottle, I sit on a chair, have the bottle wand connected direct to my brew vessel and enjoy a "froffy" as I am bottling...you, have the connecting hose, are on your knees and frankly...I failed to see the advantage but more so, I think your approach is a HUGE disadvantage.
@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 4 года назад
I did it like that a few times but couldn't reach all the bottles, and I found this easier and faster. I bottled for over 20years and I've tried all sorts of ways.. For some its good to put the fermenter on a crate on the bench, so you get that extra height and can stand up, but my back is too stuffed to be lifting 6 gallons of beer that high, whatever works for you mate. Have a good weekend :) Cheers!
