I never heard of the term mystery box in writing. When I read the video title I assumed you were making a mystery box filled with random goodies for your book or something, lol. So, that means I learned a few new things today! Thanks for that!
Thanks for watching. I'm glad I have things to teach. Mostly it is learning through tough lessons and mistakes, but sometimes I have creative outlets I've been thinking about for years, like Lost.
Very informative video, Ben, thanks. I hadn't heard of the term "mystery boxes" used to explain this concept either and it's great. I'll be sharing this one! 🙂 (Hilarious critique on Lost!)
I'm a bit lost. What does the mystery box represent? Did you have like a monthly subscription of mystery boxes from the first author you mentioned? As this video continues, I think it must be something metaphorical. I apologize. I guess I'm not familiar with this term, so I'm not sure what this all means.
No worries. I should have done a better job of explaining. I've been using the term mystery boxes for a while, but I need to remember that not everyone has the same experiences and is familiar with the same verbiage. Hopefully this gave you something to consider about writing stories driven by mysteries.
@@SDHuston Exactly. It's a story premise surrounding a mystery. Lost was full of these, from what/where is the island to how do all the magical things happen?
