I agree. I would like to stress the point of having some fiat stacked too. I just went through a 3 month period were all my side hustles dried up and I had no income. Praise the Lord I had some fiat stacked to help get me through that mess. My stack is safe and I didn't have to sell any.
Hard to admit but without a fiat stack it impossible make it through hard times. I love my gold and have some love for silver but cash is king at times of financial burden
I like one ounce ingots 999 fine silver myself. Small and easy to trade they all are stamped 999 fine. I also like American silver dollars pre 1900. Morgan style. I've owned most of my collection for over 30 years.
Love the Peanuts rounds. Have several of them. Never viewed them as an investment. Reminds me of a much simpler time during my childhood. Also bought the 50th anniversary Bugs Bunny round for the same reason. Thanks for the video.
Great video. I think you missed the most over priced coins to watch out for. Fakes are the worst investment for investors or collectors. I’ve seen my fair share of absolutely beautiful expensive fakes. I bought most of my 100oz bars between 500 and 1000 dollars. With inflation raging the downside of silver is small and upside is immense. End of June is historically the low for the year so I’ve got the truck in reverse at the end of the month.
Thanks Leo! If it's a fake, can't really be part of the silver list haha. The expensive coins is an excellent point because many of those coins won't realize their purchase price again.
I'm to the point where I only buy tubes of eagles and constitutional silver, that's it. Too much random stuff in my silver hoard and generic rounds look appealing when buying but they're not too appealing when selling. People who are not collectors or stackers know and recognize eagles and constitutional silver and this opens up your market to many more people when it comes time to selling
Monument metals is my go to bullion dealer. I still shop around but they have alot of good prices and when somethings on sale it's usually a slam dunk compared to most other retailers
If you go to a local coin store that deals with melting silver you can bring in any silver to sell. But, you will have to pay the cost for the melting. One place I went to is now $2 an ounce.
I've only been stacking for a couple of years. I was interested in the graded slabbed coins. Didn't buy because of the premium. I can't stand the collectable stuff either. I always think, what if I need to sell? So, I went with BU 999 silver from Canada, Africa, UK, and, yes a tube of Eagles. When I finished those tubes, I moved towards 10 ounce bars. I don't like the look of poured silver though, and I gravitate towards government issue, though I have some private mint stuff. Thanks for this video. I'm always willing to listen and learn.
I have found one time when fractional non-constitutional silver makes sense to "buy". I put "buy" in quotes because, for me, it's basically free. When buying online (which I try not to do, but...), I invariably end up $9 or $10 dollars under the free shipping amount. Add a fractional round to your cart and voila! - Free Shipping. I'd rather spend that money for an extra fractional round than for shipping. I swear the big online vendors must make their fractional rounds just for that reason. It has happened often enough, I have a tube half full of quarter ounce and another half full of half ounce. That's "better than a sharp stick in your eye." It helps me. Hope it helps you.
Always have an emergency fund on top of any silver/gold. Diversity is key, hold cash, precious metals, stocks/bonds. Personally I also hold crypto on top of all other assets
I tried the 10 oz bars but i dont like them. Literally bought 2 of them 2 days ago from apmex. I wish the size was bigger. I think ill go for 100 oz bar stackers instead.
I wish my dad had seen this a few months ago he bought a couple of the TV crap coins i told him after the fact not a good investment but i didn't know he was going to do it he's not a stacker or a collector just something he did on a whim 😢 but he knows now because I am a stacker and collector
"Butt hurt"...classic lol. From there on out you could list out anything and I wouldn't even be offended. Only at the ASE while writing this; I'm sure it'll be a great list.
LOL, I am currently obsessing over this silver 1 oz Stratocaster painted blue. I know it has zero value once I buy it. Meaning, I would never sell it, so it will never return any value and if I did I would get spot, if that.
Hasn't the Action Comics #1 silver foil shot up in price? $500+ for 35 grams of silver. Seems like that would have been a good investment. I was mad to see those prices cause I wanted one
40% and 35% should be considered junk Silver not 90%. Just my opinion 🙂. The largest bar I have is a 10oz. I don’t think I would go heavier than that. Great video. Thank you. 👍
I sold all of my silver. It's way too bulky to deal with. Junk silver in a SHTF scenario sounds great until you remember that it looks just like the clad slugs everyone has in their pockets. My stack is now 100% gold. I have nothing larger than 10 oz and nothing under 1 oz. The premiums on fractionals are through the roof and I won't touch them.
I have a few 10 oz bars, but I mainly stack 1 oz and Canadian silver coins. I did by some commemorative coins from the RCM, due the passing of the Queen. Purely for keepsakes, since she was a part of Canadian history. I have some fractional because I'm a Norfed geek, lol...and a First Majestic fan. I do have a 2 oz Publishers Clearing House Morgan copy, but I got a great deal on it. I buy the deals at every opportunity.
I assume that in any SHTF scenario, I will have to use silver in trade with people who barely recognize a US silver dollar or pre-65 US silver coin. I don’t want to waste time and energy trying to convince Milo Shumley that a private mint round is *really* silver, then have him demand a discount. Nuts to that.
Good ole Sudwerks..👍 You should do a part 2 focusing on what people may not of heard what you were also saying. "Rare exceptions to the rule". Other than buying from magazines and TV ads there are rare exceptions, (Id maybe even call it "diversifying"?,) while taking advantage of "opportunities" at the same time. ie, if spot is low, and you have 3,000oz's of 1oz 5oz and 10oz bars, I'd recommend buying some 100oz bars, especially on ssle at $.99 over spot. It actually might be a fun video to Make :). Couple months ago I had to come up with $25k to help my daughter with a downpayment on a house. I'm so glad I had 100oz bars that I bought at the right time.
No doubt! Always exceptions to the rule. The problem is, there are a lot of exceptions and they are very subjective. I agree with you on the pricing. I got my 100oz at .49 over spot. Heck of a deal. I've give it some thought, thanks!
My SO was getting bored with 10-oz bars and generic rounds so I found him some really unique rounds at a few trusted eBay sellers. Premiums were super high, but he found 3 he really liked and didn't mind spending his fiat. Whatever makes you happy. Keep stacking!
Junk silver will fail as a currency. Only 1 % of people own junk silver. What will the rest of us use. .999 purity is the only option. We can have only one currency.
Very good video, Campbell's Coins. I think it's important to understand the difference between efficient stacking, and then buying some beautiful pieces of silver that are special to you. It can be tough to find that balance.
I disagree on graded coins those have a chance of going up if you find the right collector even if silver is going down in spot price it's not tied to that it's tied to the collector so you have a chance of making money even in a down market
I agree 100% with your list! Especially the graded coins! I know that I’ll lose a ton if I sell them. Unless I find a small percentage of people that are looking for them. Great video
* Items/idea to avoid *. Don't get sucked into the Micro-Brew of minted round/bars/pours with very limited runs. I say Micro-Breweries because they started to pop up like Dunkin' Donut shops across New England once it became trendy to have a $24 four pack of a double IPA. They are very flashy with unique, and yes some, cool designs that larger mints might not ever be willing to producing. Example may be Reckless Metals making the Ringleader (very detailed, great humor around politics, but low runs and high prices...flippers dream like you said) which you would not expect to see Germania or Scottsdale putting into market in my opinion. There are some an anomalies by the larger mints such as Scottsdale's 8.88 oz Dragon Bar.
"Constitutional" requires convincing the other guy that it's silver at all since the average person doesn't know which years are silver. Also, the coins don't even say "silver", the purity or the weight on them. "Constitutional" is inferior in usefulness when SHTF compared to well-labeled independent fractional.
Using your argument, how does the "other guy" know the stuff you have labeled silver is indeed silver? It's a moot point because both require education. People become educated really quickly when paradigms quickly shift.
I'd also include not buying enough at one time to remove paying sales tax. You'll save more per ounce buying in bulk "especially of the same product" it's very important to consider.
I buy any silver I can get a deal on, no matter what. Sometimes thats dollars, sometimes it's quarters, sometimes it's commemorative. All depends on cost. The thing to avoid is the dollar.
Odd because in reality nobody is going to want 40% silver. There is far too much waste product when trying to extract the silver. It just isn't worth the time and effort. 80% is the lowest purity worth keeping.
My butt remains unhurt, I agree with everything you said. Btw I've decided on investing exclusively in royal Canadian mint 10 oz bars for the time being. I feel like that mintshield tech is the way to go. What you think?
Haha. Depends on where you live. In Canada and America, you should be fine. I didn't know the 10oz bars have mintshield tech, I thought it was just the coins?
Peanuts are OK because they are fun. I’ve got a couple. Whatever you do, *stay* away from Transformer Coins where the Building Turns into a Robot. 🤖 What’s fun about a building! I don’t get it! 😅
I don't buy fractional but I give the liberty dollar a pass because if I ever came across one I would buy it. But I do buy commemorative silver dollars If I find them around $20
Me too. I buy US Mint Commemorative sets for the fractional gold, but I've grown to love the silver dollars. Now I look for them and also foreign currency equivalents like the Canadian silver dollar and the Mexican 25 pesos. $20 for the American commemorative silver dollars seems to be the going rate.
I only buy pure bars and 1 oz pure silver coins..no rounds. Bars have industrial value and coins have backing .I'd never buy american silver coins..to expensive...maples and krugers are the business. ...the only American coins I'd buy are the buffalo..maybe I'm different but I only buy what I believe in
For the premiums on junk silver, I think I’d just as well stick with 1oz bullion coins or 10 oz bars. And I got news for all that think your silver will be worth anything in a SHTF / apocalypse type scenario. It’s not. Food , ammo, skill sets, etc will be good barter items. Metal(except for brass and lead) not so much
My father bought me about 20oz of silver 2 years in a row. They are coins of nothing other than being 1oz coins. Sure hope they are real. Worked my ass off for 35 years, now retired. I guess it’s now time to check these coins out.
I agree with you 💯. A lot of staking youtubers are all like " Yeah, hey stack whatever rounds or silver as you can get!" well.. No! when it comes to selling and getting down to business, no one gives a sh#t about the melt value, ok, it's all about what the dealer feels they can resell!.. so , American Eagles, Maples, philharmonics, etc., any type of boullion is the only way to go... unless of course we're talking about , ancient Roman coins or something, now that's cool
For investing buy the lowest premium. If you are collecting so you can keep your interest look for things with low premiums that are still interesting.
I have some metals saved, but lately a potential problem seems to be emerging, one that may disrupt all metal collections. The proposal to go to a complete cashless society, and the elimination of cash as a mans of legal exchange seems to create some potential problems in buying or selling these metals. Any thoughts, or have I taken too many Red pills?
Good video and I'm glad I discovered it as well. I'm been thinking about getting into precious metal/coin collecting after I found out APMEX is selling Godzilla & 007 coins. As a fan of both IPs I really want to get them but it sucks they're not a good investment at the same time.
I'm new to precious metal and don't understand how it really works. Can anyone guide me on the right approach to invest and earn a good profit from gold and silver ?
Yo thanks for bringing up those con man. We can't count that high what people are getting ripped off the pay that amount and can't wait to get more fron these con artists so I hope more contact hits the people who just do not no better
Yes, I had to stop buying ASE because of the premium over spot. I have 3 sets (1986 to 2022) and had been putting off even just buying the 3 2023 I needed to upgrade my sets. Till just lately they were $14 to $18 or more over spot each. I purchased 5 2023 ASE's on 7-14-23 at $31.25 each. $156.25 with Free shipping from the dealer I only buy from. I still put them through the size/weight/ping test. 3 for my 3 sets and 2 to stack for now. Spot was $25.00 or so at the time. I think everybody should put off buying any Morgan Silver dollars for the time being. The premium for the XF/AU/U are through the roof right now too. If you feel the need to buy, for far less money you can get .999 1 OZ. Britannia's.😀
Aren't milk spots super easy to remove? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they're cause by one of the chemicals used in the manufacturing process and are simply a residue that can be removed with a little baking soda and hot water. They really shouldn't affect the price of a bullion coin. Maybe a collectible, but not a bullion like the ASE.
Yeah, those are umm...let's say interesting. They keep coming out with these odd designs, so someone is buying them. Could be they are melting down unsold product into the new cringy design haha.
