The Knights of Blood were at the Devastation of Baal. They perished on Baal Primus when Ka'bandha and his khorne demons swarmed in. The Lamenters, Atlantian Spears, Blood Eagles, and Cruor Blades were absent.
Glad you caught it. I had just read the book and was thinking i got the names wrong 0.o. I thought the blood ravens were absent as well, (though their lineage is in question i thought the imperium considered them a blood angel successor)
@Mark Noll Most people assume that based off of Blood being in their name. Though the Swords of Haldroth believed themselves to be Ultramarine successors until Astorath arrived and revealed to them that their afflictions were the flaw suffered by all Sons of the Angel. They then changed their name to the Carmine Blades.
@@bigjoeflo that is why i said their lineage is in question. But they are absolutely modeled after blood angels and i do believe the original intent was for them to be a successor.
Funnily enough I did know who the Deathstrike are purely by coincidence, during a narrative campaign (with a game master) we determined the nearest Chapter to the world the campaign was taking place on in case we needed to call in re-enforcements and it just so happened to be the Deathstrike
Thanks man! Do you like it as it is or would you change something? This is the end product of fiddling with a way to do lore and painting at the same time so if the format works in your opinion I'd probably carry it over for another video
Loved hearing some lore from chapters that are relatively unknown, since most major lore channels cover the founding chapters only. Would love some more videos like this if you can.
This is a pretty good format, I wouldn't mind seeing more videos like this. Great paint schemes, despite having embraced the truth of the warp, these filthy loyalists do look pretty cool.
Thanks man. The format seems to be popular with other folks here so I think I'll use it for other/similar videos. And is the true CSM raider lifestyle just stealing loyalist color schemes to piss them off? 🤔🤣
If I get my hands on a 10e box, I think I'll do the space marine part as the Deathwatch. So maybe I'll make sure to have 1 member of each of these chapters 🤔.
great video! Simple, to the point, educational, and with good paint and camerawork! I do really like seeing obscure chapters get painted, like you said it sort of feels different than either making your own scheme or picking the popular ones.
Thanks friend 😊 I rewatch a lot of stuff when I model as well. It's nice since you don't have to pay too much attention to it but it's still interesting enough to listen to
I stumbled across the Deathstrike chapter after I bought a Pop Goes the Monkey pack of assorted chapter badges that go on top of marine shoulder pads. It was a great buy for a Deathwatch collection, but it did require me to do a LOT of scrolling through wiki chapter lists trying to match symbols to names. Really cool video, I like how simple a lot of these schemes are, and your little summaries of the chapters' lore is really engaging!
Thank you! Funnily enough I was ordering something from Amazon after making this video and found a whole Deathwatch upgrade sprue for 8 bucks. You bet I snatched that up lmao 😅
As a future new player, I really love your video. I was searching for a scheme that was not common, and I found the mortifactors chapter. Did you talk about them by the past in any chance ?
Thank you very much! The Mortifactors were one of the chapters I wanted to spotlight but I chose the Atlantian Spears due to their involvement in Octarus and to avoid having two Ultramarine successors on the list. It makes the list a bit more diverse which is what I wanted but I do really like the Mortifactors! 😁
@TheLichsLaboratory I understand, you make me discover some new chapter and that's great. Didn't knew 40k lore was so dence about their space marine and I really love to discover all of these. Thanks for your work my good sir
I am currently converting Relicators from Chaos Marine bits and regular SM. I will still paint atleast one squad of Blue and Yellow(not gold) Ultramarines and one squad of Blood Ravens, because Chaos Gate and DOW1 were both cool as fuck.
There was a great website back in the day for scythes of the emperor with alternate colour schemes so that may be where your friend got his? GW did Scythes so dirty in the law, they had the highest Tyranid kill count out of every chapter and Cawl was like "nah go die"
NGL, as a player who came into 9th and chose Ultramarines as his second army (nids first), kinda sick of the shit that Ultramarines have gotten. Matt Ward did some damage but he also messed up the Grey Knights too.
Blue is my favorite color. So it's kind of odd that I have little interest in painting Ultramarines. Maybe it's because I gravitate away from what's considered the most standard group. Ultramarines are too mainstream for my taste. Not indie enough.
I play a Blood Angels successor chapter called Angels Excelsis. They all got eaten during the Devastation of Baal (which was their first mission ever btw), and they only exist through like 3 sentences in the Devastation of Baal book. Their armor is a crimson torso and head, while the backpack, arms, and legs are a marble white. I use gold for their edges highlights etc
Awesome! I have been working on a custom chapter that was excommunicated for trying to control tyranids with their librarians. They are basically Tyranid monster hunters. Since they are excom, they can't get new gear, so they use nid parts to craft weapons and armor replacements. Been trying to find a paint scheme for them for a while now... this will help!
@@TheLichsLaboratory Haha thanks! I had the basic idea for them when I was like 12... 23 years ago (damn I'm old...). I had a librarian riding a carnifex (the metal one!) back then lol. I started redoing that custom chapter when Indomitus came out and had more budget for convesions. The new boxset for 10th is a dream come true for me!
I don't know why people are mad that it's always ultraboys that got the trailers, they're always getting murdered in it be grateful it's not your favorite chapters lol
Dude I would pay money to see my favorite chapters get some screen time. Who cares if the Black Templar all die at the end, we'd get to watch them kick ass till then 😎
i think Ultramarines if theyre all the extremely blinged up Roman types or the battle damaged tyrannic war veterans look very cool, i just think its kinda boring for them in Primaris armor, and honestly it was nice in older editions to have the starter set marines always be a different chapter (Also, my first chapter was Space Wolves all the way back in second edition, i really dislike the direction theyve taken with them over the years)
I will totally agree on both the Ultras and Space Wolves. Ultras look better when they embrace the Gothic-Roman aesthetic. I also think Space Wolves going for a more subdued aesthetic couldve been a great call instead of... yknow 😮💨
Sad to see my Charcarodons not be in this list. They may not have taken part in the main wars, but their lore implies they are the reason the Tyranids aren't an even bigger threat. Mind you, they fought the Tyranuds between the first and second wars.
I felt the Charcarodons were a bit too renown to make the list but I do really enjoy them. They're really cool and people always seem to pull off some great free handing for their markings. Plus Tyberos is an absolute fucking unit 😲
Loads of thanks for this. I agree, these chapters don't get enough credit or airtime. The Scythes Of The Emperor were what got me into 40K back in the original Space Crusade days + have always been my favourite Marines. Not saying I influenced GW, but I took an army to a Nottingham tournament & my background was that they were now led by the Librarius, so the 2nd in command was a Dreadnought with a Librarian inside (no powers, just lore). Then GW brought out Blood Angels Librarian Dreadnoughts. [el'sda2].
Just gonna throw this out, mortifactors, simple scheme in black and bone, lore is somewhat Interesting and all the skulls in the transfer means you don't need to free hand
ill be honest my local area has like a ultramarine player and like at least 3 of each other one. since everyone thinks that being a ultramarine would make them like everyone else nobody paints it i think
If it makes you feel better I swore a vow never to paint an Ultramarine a long time ago... I literally found a Battle for Macragge box and painted them as Angels of Fire, not Ultras. Never shall I paint an Ultra
Your wrong about the Knights of Blood, they arrived at Baal (as per a statement in the Devestation of Baal book) and they were declared Renegade not Traitors ! *grumbles*
glad you did this one. Devastation of Baal is a good one for the blood Angels fans. Deathwatch also known to fight them bugs. also the new model with the Nid bits is a cool throw back.
@@TheLichsLaboratory If you don't already have them, I suggest getting as many first edition books as possible. Get the main rulebook, the Ork books, the chaos books, and the armory books too
I love the exorcists paint scheme you did so much. I’d probably make these myself for some blood angels paint scheme since I love the bone Aquila and use it on every one of my blood angels already.
was kind of surprised you did the emperors Scythes. they always stood out to me since they got Genestealer'd but were able to power through it. I wish they kept up with that, would have been a fun and interesting plot point for them to make them stand out from the ultramarines more.
I've been watching your videos for about 8 or 9 months now, and absolutely love them! I'm also making an Atlanian spears army, so imagine my surprise when they show up in one of your videos! Wasn't expecting that, but love it!! (EDIT: when I say making an AS army... it's like, two mini's... I'm a T'au player...
OOOH! EXORCISTS! I played them back in the day (Shelved them when the Primaris stuff came in) Love their lore and color scheme though. Also... they are totally not a loyalist successor of the Word Bearers, what ever would give anyone that idea? The Chapter symbol is also very easy to replicate by taking any of the plethora of skull decals any Space Marine player has lying around, and then painting in just the hornes, before glazing it with a sepia wash. (I also did that to the arrows etc). The most notable thing on them though is the glyphs and other markings on their armor. Which is a pain to paint but looks cool.
When you said “with their only allies the lamenters” I actually started laughing out loud because I knew exactly what was going to follow that statement
@@TheLichsLaboratory also I love your monster hunter eldar, I look forward to seeing part 4 in the future, I have a feeling the maw Krusha model is going to make for a great tank stand in at some point 😁
Great idea for a video! Certainly earned my click, if you continue picking good topics like this you're on to a winner :). The video was also very high quality and had hobby good content in it.
Thank you! I might wait for 10e's launch to get some more lore developments to steer the next topic but if it's a way's off then I'd probably do something not Tyranid related at the very least
With the battles with the bugs, I started this in ‘93 playing Spackhulk. The first expansion was Deathwing. We know Deathwing Terminators were of Dark Angels… is there any link with that sect?
Apparently a quick Google search says blue is most peoples' favorite color so maybe that subconsciously creeped into the color selection when the writers were fleshing out chapters 🤔
I'm not an Ultramarines fan. I'm Blood Angels, Fists, and thanks to Son of the Forest, Dark Angles. The hate for Ultra Marines has become so overdone that's its become more obnoxious than anything Ward wrote. That being said, awesome paint work.
Thank you 😁 I'm generally content with letting Ultras do their own thing but I had to pick on them a little just once 🤭 Does make me wonder at what particular point GW's writers decided to shift the poster marines from Crimson Fists in the RT era to Ultra though, and for what reason.
@@TheLichsLaboratory Ward might have had soemthing to do with it. as both chapters are almost totally blue. Let's just be glad the poster boys aren't Fists or White Scars. Can you imagine people trying those colors for thier first models? *shudder*
i hate space wolfs and ultra marines too! love the highlight of the obscure but very awesomely painted chapters for the tyrannical war! (maybe soon something similar could happen but for dark angels hahah 👉👈) if i wasnt so dead set on dark angles id honestly have probably pivoted to the emperors scythes, i still might tbh-
A fellow SW and Ultra hater. I knew I liked you 😎🤝😎 I don't know much about Dark Angels successors but slowly going through obscure chapters by legion sounds like a solid idea for a little series here. Maybe even do a little fan fiction work and expand on the ones that don't have a lot of info? 🤔
Thank you! At the moment I just use my phone camera, a Galaxy S9, on the end of a gooseneck stand. It's not top-of-the-line but with some Pro mode tweaks it gets the job done
