100% agree on the young master. I saw it on tv at night, late 90s. The first full Jackie movie i ever saw and it blew my mind. It always baffles me how little it is talked about. Its full of great action scenes and good comedy. The action is faster and better paced than all his previous films.
Around The World... is not a good Jackie Chan movie, but it´s a nice movie with Jackie in it. I see the qualities of The New Police Story, but I still don´t like it. I´ve always liked Gorgeous. It´s a nice light-hearted movie. Crime Story is .... I don´t know. It just is. I have it twice in my collection, but I´m never in the mood. The Young Master is an old school masterpiece. I don´t think it´s underappreciated though. I hate that crying scene where Jackie is leaving the school. For some reason, I love Thunderbolt 1995. I´ve watched it so many times and still not tired of it. It has a certain magic to it.
Just when I think I won’t put more movies on the list of MAFF recommendations, you go and talk about a couple of Jackie Chan movies I haven’t seen yet. Curse you! I have seen Gorgeous, which is great, and Around the World in 80 Days, which I barely remember.
The Young Master! Yes! I was the same. I thought I knew so much about Jackie and then when I saw TYM, I felt like I had been lied to! Why didnt anyone tell me about this amazing gem!
Great recommendations, definitely going to go out my way to find and watch these, though with one in particular I've seen I'm glad to have seen on this is Crime Story and while I do think the ending is a bit anti climatic, I was engaged from start to finish with it. It is just really bloody good, definitely a different experience from most of Jackie's films but definitely one of my favourites.
Great list (except #1) and sorry to be that guy but Sammo played the titular role in _The Magnificent Butcher_, who was the student of Wong Fei Hung. I've seen _The Young Master_ no less than 3 times and the only memorable scenes for me belonged to Hwang In-Shik, who's fantastic in everything, especially the finale of Angela Mao's _Hap Ki Do_ (1972).
This list is a FANTASTIC list! I agree with all of your points that you stated in this video. As a *Jackie Chan* enthusiast, I've enjoyed these films and tried to share them with others. Here's some trivia. I like how the *wooden bench fight"* with *Jackie Chan* and *Yuen Bia* from *The Young Master* was used in *Around The World in 80 Days* and *Drunken Master 2.*
Great list, agree that the Young Master is the culmination of Jackie’s style before he started making more contemporary films. It goes from classical Kung fu to a full on brawl for the end fight, great stuff. Will watch again soon!
5 good jc movies, new police story is one of my top 10 jc movies, it is an great movie and love the action scens, and the the titel song is one of his best one.
Young Master is great. It definitely is a bit more underrated these days. In the 90s it was highly regarded as much as Drunken Master. I still have the VHS. Crime Story and New Police Story are great films. New Police Story is probably one of the last truly great JC films
