Believe me, the show is much better than what you saw here. It's like an animated Torchwood, for children. In fact, the crossover would have been a better fit in the Alien Force era.
Loved the Secret Saturdays and it was this crossover that made me go back and finish it when it first dropped. …looking back though yeah not a great crossover all things considered
Secret Saturdays is such an underrated classic. It's such a great callback to the pulpy adventure stories like Johnny Quest. I also really appreciate how it introduced so a bunch of kids to cryptids most of us never heard of, as well as Sumerian mythology. Argost was also such an awesome villain, and Corey Burton knocks it out of the park. This line from him is epic: "Would anyone go to the circus without secretly hoping the lions would eat somebody?"
When I first saw the ads (The Weird World fakeout ones), my 12 year old self was a bit intrigued. But once the true ads started airing, I was instantly hooked. And a large part of that is definitely with the Johnny Quest, similarity.😊 Also, almost every line from Argost was quite iconic. But that line is indeed up there. Such a suave, charismatic personality. Which is merely a facade, masking a bloodthirsty beast.
Thank you for having me on! It was great to come and explain some lore and even my own thoughts, as I love this show deeply and highly recommend everyone to give it a watch if they can!🧡 Also pardon about the birds, but as a bird mother I can't ignore the existences of my children.
Your perspective was very cool to see. Your knowledge about The Secret Saturdays was really insightful, and you bounced off Kuro very well It was quite entertaining and I hope to see you on the channel again sometime, cheers
@@bearerofbadnews1375 Cause older women can be attractive to younger men, vice versa is also true. It's actually quite common and is also a very famous trope used by many forms of media.
if I had a nickel for every time a Corey Burton villain in Ben 10 got defeated/killed by Feedback, I would have two nickels, which isn’t much but it’s weird that it happened in two episodes back-to-back in production order also I love that this episode features Corey Burton and Dwight Schultz as bickering supervillains, when they played similar roles in Avengers Assemble (Dracula and Attuma) a few months later
Was not expecting the Crystal crossover, always love when there's guest on a breakdown. But I never knew this crossover existed till years after Omniverse ended, I was just looking at the Ben 10 Wiki and found the page for the characters and just fell down the rabbit.
I had watched a few episodes of the TSS growing up, but I started rewatching it when I was watching a Ben 10 facts video and they brought up the crossover. I bought some of the episodes and I was like "Damn, this is amazing!"
The Secret Saturdays was an underrated cartoon. A unique premise, unique art style and music, creatures galore and best of all, charming characters and good writing overall. Truly a gem buried in the sand.
@@axelnilsson5124 It could just a being who resembles a cyptid. A lot of Ben’s aliens resemble either Earth animals or mythical creatures. Like how Shocksquash was mistaken for Bigfoot. I think there’s also types of werewolves in Secret Saturdays.
Argost is, in the grand scheme of cartoons, an underrated villain. "Dear lady, would anyone ever visit the circus if they didn't secretly hope to see the lions eat somebody?" He doesn't get to fully shine in this crossover, though. Mainly because he's got a new monster body and is more of a physical threat than an intellectual one like he usually is.
I legit forgot about the Secret Saturdays thought it was a fever dream. Weird how they canonically exist in the same universe. Wish more shows share the same universe instead going all multiversal of madness nowadays
I’m pretty sure it’s all but said out loud that gravity falls, owl house and Amphibia exist in the same universe…and don’t get me started on the collective universe that is Disney channel live action which extends outwards like a web…all connected to one stupid hospital
A lot of shows and movies that has crossovers has them exist in the same universe like the MCU, DCEU, the classic universal monsters, even various Nickelodeon crossovers in fact it’s easier to find crossovers where both shows or movies exist in the same universe than crossovers that utilizes the multiverse. Heroes United is probably the first crossover that uses the multiverse and I’ve barely seen any other do that aside from the MCUs Multiverse Saga
I agree but as Kuro said himself, it’s really difficult trying to connect two fundamentally different worlds together without causing too many questions
Originally Generator Rex was also supposed to be part of the same universe, but the writers weren't able to make it work with the Ben 10 sequel shows, so it stayed separate. They *did* combine them in the reboot, though.
Ehh..... Marvel and DC are both complete and utter messes world-building/lore wise precisely BECAUSE all their superheroes share the same universe, and that's even before getting into their multiverse nonsense.
why do some writers do that in different shows? add implied paedophilia drew is probably in her late 30s and ben is only 16 reminds me of clyde's unhealthy obsession with lori loud from the loud house
The thing about this episode is that it was a bit too casual for a crossover,it feels just like a regular omniverse episode not like a crossover or anything so I am not suprised that some people never knew they had their own show ,heck I used to watch the secret Saturdays when I was young and when I reached this episode I was just confused to “what the fuck are they doing here ?since when they were here ?isn’t the show supposed to be over ?”
That InkTank intro was a more respectful homage to the Secret Saturday’s than the entire episode was. One thing I’m surprised that was not mentioned is the lack of Doyle in this crossover, has wasn’t originally apart of the main cast but eventually did become a main cast member(due to him being Drew’s long lost brother and former apprentice of her ex boyfriend Van Rook, who did get a mention in the breakdown), like throughout this entire crossover I’m sitting there wondering where is he, he wasn’t even mentioned in the actual crossover itself which would’ve at least been nice to know that they didn’t just forget his existence(the man is literally the reason that everyone found out that Zak is Kur because Doyle rebuilt the Kur detection relic, after Fisk originally destroyed, it and was going off with Zak being discovered as actually being Kur). At first I thought that since the writer worked on 1 episode of the Secret Saturday’s that maybe the episode they wrote happened before Doyle’s backstory was revealed, nope! It was afterwards(though in their defense, Doyle wasn’t in that episode)! I know I sound a little unhinged about 1 character not showing up in a crossover event, but if you e seen Doyle in the show you could imagine how funny it actually would’ve been if he was in the crossover cause we’re talking about a bounty hunter having to work with a plumber(Rook) and that alone opens up for some hilarity, not to mention he’d probably be more willing to smack Ben for being weird about Drew then Zak is so ben probably would’ve knocked it off a lot quicker
I actually did bring up Doyle behind the scenes! I was sad he didn't appear, given he's my second favourite character. My guess is when people google TSS stuff, he's not often on the main posters, and it takes a while before he's really blending into the family. So they most likely wanted that core group seen through most of the series.
So the secret saturdays was a genuinely giant show in Turkey, and I might just be hallucinating but I SWEAR we had ads about the crossover in Turkey. Mostly because I know I watched this episode and I had dropped Ben 10 at this point so I wouldn't have a reason to watch it otherwise. But yeah to answer the question a lot of people I know and I have watched Secret Saturdays
43:45 "So you need an alien who can channel energy? I think I know just the guy." "Chromastone?!" As priceless as Kuro's statement was, we really needed more Chromastone in Omniverse.
Yeah this episode should have let the Saturdays show off their skills and abilities more, like having them fight off the frankin-cryptids from the air ship or having them do more than just be comic relief
I remember watching a episode before I discovered Ben 10 and when this aired I was just “who tf are these people?” Before I remembered the episode I watched
The Blue Tiger had good luck powers although it was bad luck for Zak do to his powers. Also it's cool that Zak is a reincarnation of freaking Kur. Him being the reincarnation of what is basically a cryptid God could be why he still has his powers
Funny thing, my first Saturday experience was during the Harem Cameo of momma saturday and then i saw this episode and understand why she was even there. Seems the writters reached their fanfic arc or the delayed advertisement was supossed to be a season later the episode was released xD
You know, with Ben 10 covering aliens and Secret Saturdays covering Cryptids, it kinda makes me think about what if they had made more shows in this universe that cover other supernatural beings? Like, one that covered ghosts, one built around magic, etc. Would probably require a lot of planning between creators to make it work, but I think it would have been neat to see
The only reason there would have been no promotion of the episode would be that they were planning to have the Secret Saturdays be recurring cast members but then they never come up again in the series. Would have been nice to have that happen from time to time.
2:26 I remember distinctively seeing that commercial just only one time before the episode aired. I must’ve been one of the lucky few to have witnessed it 😭😂
The Secret Saturdays show is underrated like Generator Rex. I love how the Ben 10 franchise had crossovers with both shows to shine light on their potential respectively. See, that's why Ben 10 will always be a part of me: it's a show with limitless ambition 💚
Can I just say, I always love whenever Kuro has a guest for the breakdowns. Not that he isn't great on his own, and yeah there's sometime more riffing than analyzing, but I find it interesting to see the different view points on certain aspects, and the riffing does make for good entertainment. I was laughing a lot watching it.
Huh. I've thought for a while that I need to go back and watch Secret Saturdays, but now, hearing Crystal talk about it made me really want to watch it. I'll have to make that a priority.
Never watched the secret Saturdays but I looked up the Jersey Devil and it's a white goat man with wings and a pointed tail. No mane either. So unless there's a red one, who knows. The hooves kind of reminds me of a minotaur and the mane reminds me of a manticore.
I think the problem with this is that that Ben 10 Omniverse aired after Stuart Snyder's departure from the network so which means that it was less advertisement on action shows more geared towards comedy shows
@@pedrogabrielduarte4544 yeah because during the time Christiana Miller took over as president of Cartoon Network and she ushered in an age of Comedy where a lot of action shows started to get canceled and disappear she started bringing in more comedy shows
I watched the Secret Saturdays a bit when I was younger. But completely re-binged it in preparation for this episode. I absolutely loved it, and though I thought the crossover was fine, I much prefer the original depictions of the Saturdays. The original had a very 80s adventure cartoon aesthetic, and I love that about it. I also find it really cool how both shows were always meant to be in the same world, and I am disappointed they never revisited them. Also, I do actually remember seeing a promo for this episode. I don't think it was for this episode specifically, I think it was clips from two or three new episodes at the time, and the crossover was heavily featured. I also remember them never mentioning that it was a crossover. At that time I hadn't thought about the original show in years, and my exact thoughts were, "Those guys are back?"
They should have done a Juniper Lee crossover too. It had a Sasquatch girl as a main character, had a whole universe of magical creatures hidden from normal human society, and fits the Ben 10 formula of all old people being total badasses. The idea of Grampa Max having a history with June's grandma would be too good to waste. It would all fit well into this shared universe
@@8LiterallyJustTheNumber8 That would be so amazing. I know Juniper is insanely strong but it would still be funny seeing her throwing around Humougosaur like a ragdoll.
It would be so cool to see. Obviously it would have to be done roadtrip style like in OS since June isn't allowed to leave Orchid Bay, but it would have been one of the coolest crossovers. Fighting big guys like Humongosaur would look so natural for her and it would have been cool to see where she was at a few years after her show ended
@@8LiterallyJustTheNumber8 but derrick j wyatt is dead the ben 10 franchise is only going back by comics and cartoon network wants to hide the life and times of juniper lee's existence what should and they do?
@@pedrogabrielduarte4544 Derrick J Wyatt isn't the only person capable of making Ben 10 though? Before him it was Dwayne McDuffie, and before him it was the entire Man of Action team. As for Juniper Lee, she's definitely made cameos in CN Legacy events like Crossover Nexus, and the beloved comic book writer and cartoonist who created her, Judd Winick still clearly has a lot of love for the character. Now will we ever get a Juniper Lee TV series again? Maybe not. But a continuation of those characters within the much more popular Ben 10 franchise would be totally doable. Given that June's creator is a comic book writer himself (creator of Batman's former Robin, Red Hood), I'd say the likelihood of her returning in Ben 10 is more likely now than it was when I first posted the comment, since Ben 10 is now continuing in the comicbook medium.
I would LOVE seeing Kuro react to the secret Saturdays. I don't expect full breakdowns, but it might be interesting to see him react to something he hasn't seen before but still has that cartoon network feel. Looking back, the two original shows felt similar enough that I assume Man of Action made them both.
23:30 I never thought that Argost was a yeti wearing a mask, but was I the only person who didn't think he was a human when watching the original show? And he didn't look that much different without his mask than he did with it. 30:27 Fun fact, Black Monday is the episode that Zak Monday and the other Mondays debut. You know, one of the most important characters for the climax of Secret Saturdays. 33:43 According to the TV Tropes page, Argost's mask prevents Kur's powers from working on him. *Edit:* It just occurred to me that this is the second time Ben's had a crossover and both times it was with someone whose primary color is orange!
i still think it was a missed opportunity for the writers not to include grandpa max in this episode would have been nice to see him interact with the saturdays particularly dok saturday
Fun fact; A version of Bigfoot actually not only appeared in Secret Saturdays, they showed a clip of him fighting Doc in this video. It's just that the show refers to him exclusively by a name used by the Cherokee; Tsul 'Kalu.
i actually have to admit, i completely forgot that this episode existed, i watched all of the secret saturdays, many years ago and i remember enjoying it (im talking MANY years now) but yeah i remember watching this episode and just groaning at how much nothing there was
I think the nanites were dormant, since the Omnitrix's failsafe protocols prevent the micro-machines from tampering with Ben's fragile DNA, but over time, they eventually developed a connection. In my headcanon, I think the Omnitrix was regulating the Nanites in order to carry out its intended function(i.e. heal cells, regenerate tissues, strengthen muscles, etc.)
43:04 totally agree This crossover won't SHOW the real essence of The Secret Saturdays. 44:09 Although remember that in the first episode they escaped from some LANTERN FROGS, but this episode is the worst treatment to the Saturdays who are much more intelligent and capable of facing this. 47:38 Exactly, Zak has a history and development in the original series. This crossover doesn't do it any justice but it was nice that they remembered once again. It's one of my favorite series and it deserves another chance.
"The U.S is the main market of ben 10" Asia and Latin America: we are a joke to you? Ben 10 was just another show of the bunch in the states in Asia and Latin America Ben 10 was big as fuck like dragon ball in mexico
You're correct. Ben 10 was much, much bigger internationally. But it was conceptualized and marketed towards the US, which unfortunately, it wasn't as big in.
This video was unexpected, I was hoping for a video like this, even though I never watched the secret Saturdays, so this video was a good lore dump, not in a bad way, love the crossover between Kuro and Crystal, hope to see more in future
14:05 Magic did originally exist in Ben 10, in the og show. But then it got retconned in Alien Force/Ultimate Alien I like to think it does exist, but typically gets explained as "Alien powers" sometimes
I watched The Secret Saturdays while it was airing, and I loved every minute of it. I was excited when I heard there was a crossover with Ben 10. Then I watched the episode... I thought it was garbage. Next to nothing was true about things the characters said, Ben simping over Drew, the Saturday's suit looking like Captain Nemesis from UAF, and how nothing ever came from it. Heroes United at least left it open for more.
suits make more sense than normal clothes, imagine if Doc actually wore a suit instead of regular clothes, he would not have gotten the scar on his eye in that fight
i assume Animo revived Argaust because he knows lots of secret cryptid locations or whatever. and while the headbands are cool i think he found out the hard way that they're not effective because they can be hacked. so it sorta makes sense
