Seems like he did the Tokyo Turnup too high and covered the hem. I thought the idea of that style was to show both the selvedge ID as well as the chainstitched hem.

Just get your denim hemmed and tell them to keep the taper. Cuffing denim gets rid of that ankle to calf taper that makes so many pants look fitted and clean.
