My chins I'm getting Thursday are gonna be in my bedroom I'm in the UK I don't have Air con is it possible to have a fan circulating the room in the summer times? If not can u link the air con units u recommend please
Hi , fans don't really work at all so I would recommend getting a portable air con unit. It really depends on the size of the room but generally the higher BTU the more effective it will be. If it's a fairly small room you could get away with a 5000 or 6000 BTU portable aircon which should do the job. There are loads to choose from Wilko do portable aircons and so do places like Argos. You may even find a deal on a second hand one on ebay.
I am looking to get chinchilla’s next year, I live in NY so our area is usually cold and full of snow (especially mine), but I wanted to get a portable air conditioner just in case for the 2-3 months that we do have actual summer weather. While I was looking, I saw many types and was wondering if there was any notable difference between a air conditioner or a air cooler for chinchillas. Do you have an opinion on this? I don’t want to get get something that does not actually help my chinnie but I also don’t want to waste money on something that is not truly required (as in the air coolers seem to be less expensive) when something else can do the job just as easily.
Portable aircon is better than an air cooler . The difference is air conditioners actually pump out cold air from a refrigerator inside the machine cooling the room fast. Air coolers on the other hand disperse tiny little droplets of cold water. You have to put cold water or ice in the machine and it then disperses little droplets of water into the air to make the room cooler. The issue with aircoolers is they don't cool the air as fast or anywhere near as effectively as air conditioners. Air coolers also increase humidity because they pump out water droplets. Higher humidity plus heat can be deadly for a chinchilla. Hope that makes sense .
I have two rabbits and am looking into getting a chinchilla. What precautions do I need to take? Is it possible to keep them in the same room as long as I put up a solid barrier that prevents them from touching/exchanging nasal secretions?
