Im struggling with smoking. Tried many times but a stressful life keeps me coming back. Im in construction management and its a super stressful job and while not actually true a good ole puff just eases the stress a bit. I feel like i need a different job to actually quit. Longest i have gone is 2 weeks lol. But it’s literally killing me so i need to do it
My blood pressure has been high lately, today I went to the Dr’s and it read 166/92 😬 I’m freaking out ! I walk atleast 3 days a week . And eat healthy . What should I do ? I don’t want to take medication. Please help anyone
I DID SOME DETOXING EVERY MORNING. I tried making cucumber juice and drink it 30 minutes before breakfast everyday for 3 months. Of course dont be overweight. try eating more vegetables first before rice.
this is very depressing... I have been diagnosed with high PB for a couple of month now (150/100). Before that I used to be slightly overweight, trained regularly, did not smoke or drink. Since two months back I have increased my training (running 3 times a week one hour), I have almost completely removed carbs and lost 6 kg, I am not eating any processed food, I am eating all the recommended stuff (flax seed, avocado, salmon, hibiscus tea and so on), I sleep at least 8 hours, even tried accupunture. During the 2 first weeks of changes of my lifestyle, my BP got down to almost 120/75. But then it got back to 145/95 (ish) and seems stuck there. I can make it go down a little by doing breathing exercises before it take my BP, but this feels like cheating as it is not sustainable. At that point I am thinking of quiting all those changes and just not bother, take a pill, because obviously something is not working out right.
Hi Jules, can I ask. Do you have any kind of anxiety or high stress in your life? Since you have most of the things under control, maybe try daily meditation and daily breathing exercises. Keep any stress out of your life, and maybe try a second blood pressure monitor just in case. Also have you checked your salt intake? And do you drink enough water per day? Thanks
Congrats on all your wonderful accomplishments. Perhaps get a ct for calcium build up in arteries? Check to see if thyroid function may have changed which can affect bp.
I have tried everything. Hibiscus tea ,exercise , deep breathing, keto diet. I'm not over weight. And I'm still struggling. Sometimes my bp is perfect other times its 150 over 80. It drives me nuts. The funny thing is, if i have a few drinks 🍸 it is perect. I hate to go on meds.
I've lost several friends to lung or mouth cancer due to tobacco products. However, to the disappointment of the tobacco industry, I don't know or have seen anybody using tobacco products for quite sometime. A major change is taking place, fortunately.
Hello, I am a 25 year old with family history of HBP. I have had high blood pressure since I was in high school. My blood pressure is usually ranges around 140/105 +. I consider myself healthy, I exercise at least 4-5 times a week for an hour, eat healthy meals at home with limited sodium, and rarely drink. I do not drink or eat overly sugary foods/beverages, and limit caffeine ti about 80mg per day. I have been to a cardiologist and my labs are normal, I have also had a kidney ultrasound and that was normal, my echocardiogram is normal, and have tried 3 different types of blood pressure medicine but they do not lower my blood pressure even when on high dosage. Do you have any suggestions for things that I could bring up/talk to my doctor for my abnormal situation? We haven’t been able to find the cause of my high blood pressure or how to lower it
If you are an irritable, hateful person, you are prone to high blood pressure. Because the environment changes according to our heart, our mentality greatly affects our physical health. So, if you are a tolerant, easy-going person, you will not have high blood pressure.
Thank you, I have good blood pressure on regular days, but during the menstrual cycle my blood pressure rises.. I don't know how to control it as i eat very little..
I am young, healthy, I eat healthy and exercise, I prioritize sleep, rest and meditation yet my blood pressure is still high. I just found out that my dad has CAD, is that hereditary?
Im confused so our body needs sodium? But im border line have high blood pressure and am trying to bring it down but seem like everything has sodium in it so what do i do??
Thanks for sharing i need to get my pressure under control sometimes it good sometimes higher than some according to the food i eat especially when they add salt to my food
Why are patients not referred to a nephrologist when they are diagnosed with high blood pressure? A lot of doctors are so quick to put you on medication.
Dr Blake needs to be more specific about this topic. either low or high blood pressure is "no bueno". the blood pressure needs to be at the right level, not low, not high.
Yes, but I wouldn't use the kind of rock salt you buy for outdoor use bc it's not food grade. They sell salt/potassium blends in the seasoning aisle. The most common name brand is called NuSalt. It tastes pretty much exactly the same as normal salt, and use it in the same amounts as regular salt. But I believe it's 30% potassium
If u increase potassium u also have to stay away from carbohydrates and sugars and greasy foods because insulin decreases potassium levels so u want to eat a little less sugars
I exercise daily, dont smoke, have a healthy bmi and have a healthy vegetable fuelled vegetarian diet for the last 40 years. My blood pressure is 95/150, certainly not healthy.
I'm wondering if "High Blood Pressure" is a thing? Because here in America the norm is 120/80. But I found out in other countries it's 140/90. Why is that? So far no doctor has answered that. On a personal note when my blood pressure is 120/80 or a bit lower, I'm dizzy and nauseous. But when my blood pressure is higher than that I'm fine. So, it had me thinking. Blood pressure has to be individualistic.Or is there really such a thing as "High Blood Pressure?"
I graduated nursing school in 1975 in the U.S. and 140/90 was acceptable back then. I’m thinking they changed the numbers to prescribe more pharmaceuticals but that is just my opinion.
I enjoy smoking and drinking and doing all kinds of unhealthy things but unlike many people who do unhealthy things, I am a realist. So: I dont want to agree about smoking but from my observation it is, alas, alas, true. My evening blood pressure systolic is typically between 132-142. But if I smoke in the evening, it is typically 142-152. I have done this time and time again, seems to be no doubt. The results from coffee are much less obvious. I am also not totally sure about alcohol. Until recently I used to drink way more alcohol than I do now (about 4-5 bottles of wine a week) and jhave cut back dramatically (about one and ahalf bottle a week) . Six weeks into my low alcohol regiomen and far from sinking since I stopped drinking my blood pressure seems to be rising but Ill hold on for another six months. Apart from my own health I am interested out of curiosity about all this. I dont trust what experts say and if I can find out for myself by testing myself, I do. To date: coffee I see no evidence, also for alcohol, but smoking out of my private experience the evidence is pushes it up big time and sorry all of us smokers, in my case at elast the evidence is irrefutable. I have been testing smoking for two years now and it puts my BP over average every time I do it. I didnt want to believe it but the evidence is there. Exercise helps? yes, probably correct again going from my own observation on myself. during the covid panc years I didnt exerice much and my systolic was up at 150-160 since doing a lot of exercise (nearly always over 10k steps a day plus pressups and strenuous biking) my BP average is down to 132-142. That doesnt look like a coincidence. Or put it like this: too big a difference to be a coincidence. So taking up exercise did reduce my BP but sadly so far drastically cutting back on alcohol has not. A QUESTION: One information I am keen to learn and cant find anywhere on t he net: There is plenty of information about what BP should be but WHAT ARE REAL NATIONAL AVERAGES for real BP? It is so strange the info isnt published. There are enough statistics about average weight, deaths etc Why is there no information about typical median BP of different people around the world? I would personally be most interested to know!
I'm 66 & my BP went from 156/98 down to 128/88 in 1 hr & 40 minutes. How? Its winter & all the windows are closed, so I opened them up & breathed in deeply fresh air - lots of trees in our area. So it came down via oxygenation. Based on this, we're going to get a big plant for the living room & one for our master bedroom.
A chemist's suggestion: The herb called Alchemilla vulgaris is very effective in lowering high blood pressure. You can boil this herb for 6 minutes and drink the water. English name of this plant: Lady's Mantle.
Thanks, will check this out with my pharmacist. I am on Edoxaban blood thinners, so must check even so-called natural things I add to my diet or regimen, to ensure I'm not doing anything to interrupt the effectiveness of my medication.
Well this worked for me . Bp was 200 over 100. I ate many many many many organic purple grapes and drank nettle seed tea and a month later bp was 120 over 80 . Focussed on the kidneys and it worked .
Where can I find the nettle seed tea and purple grapes? I'm 2o years old and doctors told me you are very young to have high blood pressure so can u please tell me
I'm 61 I'm in better shape than most men half my age, but I've been into weight training my entire life, the average person would rather take a pill than exercise
Thank you Dr. very pertinent advise. I already do things. I don't smoke, Cook my meal with low salt, watch my weight, as for the exercice it is quite difficult because of some physical limitations, but there are things I will try. My objectives are to reduce as much as possible my medication. Have a good and healthy day. God Bless
At 61 years old my blood pressure is around 135 over 87 sometimes 140 June 2nd 2023 I left work. 6 weeks later I'm off my blood pressure medication and now my blood pressure around 115 / 72. Of course it fluctuates but for some reason it's now normal, the only thing I can think of is I left work. Retire as soon as you can
Yeah sometimes your surroundings can effect your blood pressure. My blood pressure was normal low 117)76. Now it's 130/84 or so. I think jobs are overly stressful. I definitely need a change my surroundings
Dear Dr. Blake Shusterman: THANK YOU for sharing such valuable information. At one point, my blood pressure was 210/110. After losing 80 pounds, exercising, eating low sodium (1,500 mg of sodium per day), eating home-cooked meals instead of eating in restaurants and eating junk food at fast food restaurants, my blood pressure is 127/74. My blood sugar is in the normal range and I no longer have to take Metformin. I still continue to take one Perindopril tablet (2.5 mg) per day.
@I'm happy Dear I'm happy: I'm not going to say it' was easy. Changing any behaviour is difficult at first. But, I didn't have any choice. My health was being affected by being morbidly obese. Either continue doing what I was doing by eating, and eating, and MORE eating the wrong foods and facing health challenges along the way. I always keep a variety of unsalted nuts in the house and limit myself to 1 oz. (1 oz. = 35 almonds) when cravings hit. Slow and steady, at weight loss, wins the race! I used to get frustrated when I would lose 1 pound per week, but over a year that is 52 pounds. Weight loss is worth it. Health is wealth! I hope the New Year brings you good health, peace and happiness.🎆 🎉🎊🎇
good video, but if you want low blood pressure regardless how upset you get - the best thing is extra virgin olive oil. 100% cook and saute with, and try to get a teaspoon or two in your diet everyday. it takes time a couple months, and needs to become a habit and you'll never have high blood pressure again. promise.
You forgot to mention one very important factor contributing to the blood pressure Thyroid hormone. Suppressing the thyroid hormone by eating raw vegetables, such as cabbage and broccoli, you may jack up your blood pressure. Some raw vegetables brings your thyroid hormone down and this is causing blood pressure to go up. This was the main cause for my case.
I never had a problem with high blood pressure until I started exercising and losing weight, I’ve lost 10 lbs in the past month, I’m in the gym 6 days a week, I do HITT sprints twice a week, I don’t eat much salt, everything I eat, I cook. And I have been intermittent fasting 3 to 4 days a week and eating a low carb diet.
My heart just keeps thanking you and thanking you Dr Igudia for all you have done for me, you gave me your words that you could heal any sickness or disease, thank you for permanently curing me of my Type 2 Diabetes you are amazing.
61 here, 6'2 & 97kg. My bp has hovered around 140/95ish. I stopped taking bp meds 3 weeks ago. I don't smoke nor drink. Changed my diet, reduced salt and sugar substantially. Go on walks/ aquajog regularly. Eating healthier foods, more fruit and veg. Eating 2 cloves of raw garlic, crushed & cut into small amounts swallowed with water. Adopted Wim Hof breathing techniques over the past 3 weeks and have taken a cold shower every day. Would like to see the bp go down further but shall see.
1) exercise such as walking 🚶 biking 🚴♀️ jogging 🏃 and yoga 🧘 2) losing weight by at least 2.2 lbs 3) quit smoking 🚬 (I don’t smoke 🚭) 4) eat less salt 🧂 such as pizza 🍕 and French Fries 🍟 and stop 🛑 going out to restaurants 5) eat higher potassium foods such as bananas 🍌 sweet potatoes 🍠 and tomatoes 🍅 Number 6 is to lower your stress level and take life easy which I really need to do.
Wow, disappointing, I knew more than this before listening. There's a lot you missed like breathing exercises, nitric oxide, aged garlic, hibiscus tea, chamomile tea, potassium citrate, CoQ10....
My concern, particularly in the UK, diagnose you with high blood pressure based on on take. Very poor health care. Medication is always the outcome, rather than lifestyle changes.
Eat less salt. That's what my dad used to think, until he finally believed my mom all those times she tried to tell him "Eat Pink Himilayan salt!" And guess what, he has found Pink Salt to be Safe Salt!
I know what you mean on the peeing.I have kidney disease so I drink alot of water and I know I will go pee more often by drinking h20. I have the urgency to pee just looking at water and also drinking low amounts of water. I do not know so I feel like you cannot win for losing.
And you know why does our country the only country that calls dementia and Alzheimer's not exactly that and not diabetes stage 3 which every other country on the planet considers it and not only that but all diabetes or with the correct diet totally reversible I know people that have had terrible dementia gotten onto a keto or got their systems feeding on ketosis their brains you know burning healthy fat instead of sugar and more or less reverse that as well
