In my opening prayer I usually welcome the Holy Spirit, this is my way of acknowledging Him and it also helps me to encourage the people to be aware of Him and to focus on Him (in spirit).

Great comments as usual Spencer. Some of your other videos on this subject have helped. It’s good to be challenged theologically and be more intentional about this….even if we disagree on some of this. The “House of the Lord” debate is a mysterious one. I agree in some ways but maybe some mean we are in the House of the Lord because we ARE together :) . Also I do like to invite the Holy Spirit’s presence and the Spirit responds for real…although yes you are right about inviting God in general. I think we could be specific about the Spirit….big theological debate :) Love you all. Agree to disagree

I agree with you. When you go to your friends house do you welcome him? No, he welcomes you. I think it shows lack of understanding to “welcome” the lord to his own house.

Okay… Agree and disagree for the 2nd saying. Yes we are temples of the Holy Spirit but also there’s a physical temple or house of God which we attend to. Why did David say, I was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the Lord? Or I will dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life? I think we can over look certain things when it comes to opening up a worship service.

And also there’s nothing wrong with having a posture of welcoming or acknowledging God in the service. When the Bible talks about opening the door to Jesus is that not us welcoming him?

It is certainly massively important to invite the Holy Spirit. The Spirit was given to us to glorify Jesus….the purpose of our worship. We always say “Come Holy Spirit” in the Vineyard…..it is our mantra.

I think he means that we don't need to welcome the Spirit in order for Him to come, He's just saying don't say it because He's already here.

@@johannestsoi5441 The Spirit is already there but in some sense I think the Spirit is waiting to be called upon. He is looking to be named and for his presence to be made known.

Dude, you’re kind of nitpicking and splitting hairs. I don’t have a problem with someone WELCOMING the Lord. Yes, He’s already there with us. So we don’t have to INVITE Him. But, why NOT welcome Him… and any prominent human guests… and even every less-than-prominent person in attendance that day? Why not tell everyone - but ESPECIALLY the Lord - “We welcome you! Thanks for being here/ for being with us. We value your presence.” And there are all kinds of references that connect God and weather (Zech 10, Jeremiah 5, I Kings 8, in the Psalms & Job, Isaiah 49, Deut 33) Sure, the weather doesn’t dictate our praise. But I don’t mind a worship leader mentioning ANYthing that reminds him of the goodness of God on a particular day. If anything, it encourages me to look for God in the everyday, small, mundane things that I too easily take for granted - like the blessing of living on a beautiful earth where there’s provision & seasons & order & beauty & the hope that comes with every sunrise. Yes, He’s worthy of praise on ALL the days, not just the sunny ones. But I can’t fault anyone if the beauty of a sunny (or rainy or snowy) day compels them to praise God. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s not the REASON we know He’s good; but it might be a REMINDER.
