Welcome to this video where we'll be discussing sublimation on 5 different types ofHTV, to make it possible to use sublimation on black fabrics.
Sublimation is a process where a substance goes from a solid state directly to a gas state without passing through the liquid state.
The first step is to design your artwork and print it out on the transfer paper using sublimation ink. I'm using Crafting Besties sublimation paper. After adhering your HTV, next, place the transfer paper face-down onto the HTV and apply heat and pressure with the heat press. As the temperature increases, the sublimation ink transforms into a gas and penetrates the surface of the vinyl, permanently embedding the design onto it.
It's important to note that only specific type of material that is receptive to sublimation ink will work. This video shows glitter, flock, transparent, glow in the dark and easy subli HTV's.
Sublimation is a unique and effective way to create custom designs on a variety of substrates. Have fun!

That's awesome! I have used it before with great results. However, it is very thin and the dye migration is real on black fabric. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8vVDJyb7lV0.html

Great tutorial . Thanks for all the great information. Which one was the softest for wearing on a shirt but also had a great colour. I see that Easy subli had the best coverage but it looks really think and bulky. I have a shirt to make for Line Dancing on a Black shirt. I don't want it to be stiff. Thanks in advance for your help and will continue to watch your videos for more tips.

Thank you for your question. I would stay go with easy subli or flock. That being said, create your design so there is negative space. That helps with the feel and wearablity. You might also consider traditional DTF transfers - but again, with negative space. Any design that is a big block on top of HTV ill feel weird to wear.

Hi . Thanks for this video. Sorry for my question. Im just wondering if i can just use a plain white htv first then my image on sub paper?
@stacyodesigns
@stacyodesigns 2 месяца назад
Regular HTV will not take sublimation ink. The HTV in this video are eithe made for sublimation or have enough polyester in them that sublimation works.

Just FYI, get a small block of granite! Sample from a local store! place it on top of pressed item, pulls the heat out instantly! Also, how thick are each of these for comfort?
@stacyodesigns
@stacyodesigns 11 месяцев назад
Great idea!!!! Thank you. So the glitter is the thickest, which I am not a fan of, is why I actually started with easy subli. The others just feel like regular HTV.

sorry just 1 question so the easy subli gose on first its like the base right so when i go over with my print it'll stand out right? but what do i use to print on like that A-sub paper? i think thank you ahead of time
@stacyodesigns
@stacyodesigns 8 месяцев назад
Yes, in this video I pressed the subli, then used sublimation paper and ink and press it onto the subli. A-sub paper is sublimation paper that will work for this. (sidenote - I have tried A LOT of papers, and A-sub tended to stick. Do some tests. If you get a lot of sticking, lower time and/or temp. Do some testing) Also, personally, I am not good at lining up, so I rarely press my subli first. I use the 2 step method. Here is a video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vg83_X76KVs.htmlsi=wCsP8Z1PVaYzJfTV

@@ggc1131 There are so many options. You could go with straight DTF transfers, that you would have to order from a printer. Or there is Siser DTV, which I really like. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E_tM5lCYZvU.html But if you want to stay with sublimation, you would need a sublimation printer, sublimation ink, and sublimation paper. (I REALLY like Crafting Besties brand) Then you would just need your preferred HTV to sublimate it onto. Oh, and of course for any of these methods you would need a heat press or easy press.

I wish it showed how these methods twist and stretch. I'm thinking of sublimating a name on a navy blue (with white anchors) baby blanket. 100% poly.

You will have the best 'stretchability' with the subli.

Not that I'm learning that you can't sublimate on black or cotton I'm thinking I went the wrong way with this t-shirt idea. Should I just look into vinyl? I want it green and gray soft and cool garden shirts.
@stacyodesigns
@stacyodesigns 10 месяцев назад
It's a tough call to say. It depends on your designs. HTV will not give full color design options. You could always look into DTF transfers. They can be full color and can press on any type of material.

Easy subli is a sublimatable HTV. It is made to be printed on by Sawgrass printers. Some Epson users have had success printing directly on it as well. I am not one of those users. I do the 2 step method. Here is a basic overview of Siser EasySubli: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z8crriQklJg.html Here is how to do the two step method: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vg83_X76KVs.html

Great video. Question for you: I have a navy blue 100% polyester trucker hat that I want to sublimate. Do you think if I make a light blue offset and press, you’ll be able to see? The area is so small I don’t want to use any hacks. I love how the glitter looks, but my SIL is not a glitter kinda guy. Any thoughts appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend regular flock its not made for sublimation is the reason,it gives a dull look and in the long run the colors starts to fade.i haven't tried any of the others other than easysubli

I was disappointed. I thought you would explain what the products were and how to use them. I'm new to sublimation and have no idea what flock, etc is so I don't know, and can't figure out, how it all worked. Maybe I'm just dumb but it doesn't teach me anything :(
@tms6884
@tms6884 Год назад
She explained that these are all HTV (heat transfer vinyl) products. These normally have nothing to do with sublimation. She's simply showing how each can allow sublimation on dark fabric. HTV is normally used as vinyl designs on fabric alone. There are numerous types (as shown) depending on what your project needs or how you want it to look. A couple of these are made specifically to use for this exact reason, though. She did a great job in this video, showing how each works with sublimation. Typically, sublimation is done with sublimation ink, on sublimation paper, with a sublimation printer, and then applied to white or light colored, high polyester count fabrics or sublimation-ready blanks. There are tons of sublimation tutorials here on RU-vid if you want to learn about sublimation. That's not what this video was for.

Direct to Garment printing and sublimation does print directly onto the 'correct' fabric. These are examples of combining crafts to achieve this outcome.
