At my job we have a CO2 laser, and my boss lets us use any scrap we have for personal projects. So any downtime we have we're allowed to use the laser. What I do is that I laser cut acrylic and make stamps. I made my own logo/maker mark in ½in, 1in, and 2in sizes. I'll wet the leather all the way through, place my stamp, and clamp it down AS HARD as I can. It makes a nice and deep impression, especially as the leather gets thicker. I've managed to crack only the 2in stamp, but the ½in and 1in are fine still.

How do you remove the burnt ash that covers everything
@davesmith-mz6qg
@davesmith-mz6qg 26 дней назад
mostly just wipe it off with a damp rag, if you have an air pump on your laser it won't be that bad

I have a question: How do you get the burnt smell out of your wearable laser cut leather products? I cut out earrings and they smell like tri-tip. I am testing my bad passes I made with my xTool D1 Pro 20w with distilled vinegar... Help!

I find sprinkling baking soda on it helps and letting it sit in it a bit and then washing it off. But yeah, the smell is not great.

Can anyone reccomend some good masking for 3-4oz leather to reduce some of the soot on leather patches? Also, could masking be a fire hazard?? THANK YOU!

Don't understand why you didn't cut the rubber stamp out while on the laser after rastering..

FYI, on why won't cut clear acrylic Clear acrylic will not be cut with a blue laser because the light will pass through the material and not be absorbed. This requires an appropriate laser, such as a CO2 laser cutter. A CO2 laser cutter emits a laser beam in the infrared range, which can be absorbed by acrylic of any color.

Even though I knew this, and I appreciate you giving the real answer to anyone who might want it, I really liked her "something, something science" answer. My brain really wanted to give her a big high-five for this and I'm now a subscriber.

I’m curious if you could mark the clear acrylic with masking tape and cut out the template? Have you tried that yet?

I haven't tried it, but I've read on a few forums it doesn't work well. Thanks for watching!

Been trying to return mine for the last week, and xtool has ghosted me. I spent around 2800 bucks for everything. And they wont even respond. Guess I didn't do my research.

I don’t really get why so many people try to cut in one pass. Go faster with more passes (time is the same) and the cut will be a lot cleaner. With leather ánd wood. But nice review. Thanks

$1000 seems like a lot since an ender Falcón 2 is half that price.

I don't have a laser tool. I'm on the fence only because I have so many things I like to do already... embroidery, rhinestone, doll clothes, etc. This is one I have to give up. However, I you want to make stuff like molds and wood projects, I would buy from you as long as the prices are affordable. Thank you for always sharing.

Thanks for sharing. Your video was helpful. However, I'm confused about materials that should be avoided with the Diode laser, d1 pro. Not because of your video, but I see so many people engraving/ cutting leather and acrylics when I thought these were highly toxic materials to cut and should be avoided. I've watched several videos and many are cutting materials which the D1 Pro manual states we should never cut. I find it really troubling with XTool because they specifically list materials We Should Not Cut due to Toxicity, but at same time they are SELLING/SUGGESTING acrylics and Leather to D1 Pro/ Diode laser owners. The information is so conflicting...No one seems to care or they are unaware of the Chlorine gas and other toxins they are exposing their lungs and they work space to. Is there something I'm missing? I'm also concerned about some woods and MDF. Is there a website that offers information about safe laser engraving materials? But More importantly types of materials we should avoid?
@SpringbokCraftCo
@SpringbokCraftCo Год назад
Definitely. I'm not an expert on this subject at all. But from what I've researched, I personally would only laser cut vegetable tanned leathers (which doesn't have Chromium in it). The thing you're avoiding when laser cutting chrome tanned is Chromium VI. Typically this was used more in the past and their are strict regulations in place to minimize chromium VI. Chromium III is more common now (and in general, people believe this is safe to laser, but there are others who would just avoid it to be safe) The issue is if you don't know where the leather comes from and can't guarantee that it doesn't have Chromium VI, many countries have less strict regulations and lack of quality control. If you know where you're getting your leather from, you can ask them what their tanning/dyeing formula is. This is a good start for what is not safe: www.troteclaser.com/en-ca/learn-support/faqs/unsuitable-materials-laser-processing

Old video, hope you see this. Curious about results with different kinds of leather, this all seems to be vegetable tanned. Curious about oil tan, latigo and bridle leather, and while I have my own d1 and could test I'd love to benefit from your knowledge if you have any.
