About nudity in a Sauna... If you are wearing clothes while in the Sauna, you are doing it wrong... Sauna is ment to use it naked completely, based on the Original finish Sauna/ russian Banja. If you wear clothes, this leads to an imbalance of heat distribution and people not sweating properly/evenly and/or clothes cutting of blood circulation -> which can lead to circulation problems or even a heart attack... Also swimming clothes are not made for Saunas, most of them have a very poorly heat dissipation -> this can lead to burning of the skin below. I'm using a Sauna regularly in Germany for over 25 Years and I already needed to save people from a Sauna because of wearing clothes in a Sauna. Resume: If you have a problem with being naked in the Sauna use a towel loose around you body, always shower naked and cold after using the Sauna. If you can't handle this don't use a Sauna, because wearing clothes in a Sauna is for real DANGEROUS. *Edit: grammar

Some saunas in Germany offer "women only" times. I'm not a sauna guy and I'm not used to sitting around completely naked with other people, but maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it. From the little what I've heard and experienced, everyone is expected to stay silent and not to look at other people in a sauna. And always put a fresh towel under you when you sit down; it's considered gross to leave behind your sweat and whatever on the wooden slats. The towel is mandatory, iirc.

I am a German man and have not yet experienced that girls were whistled at or even insulted or harassed. Well, since 2015, some things have changed.

Hi Lila, I've heard from somewhere that German and English visitors to Mallorca, especially the bowling clubs and party people, prefer to head for different places on the island. English -> Magaluf, German -> El Arenal. But I don't really think the real reason for this is the often observed idiosyncrasy of Germans reserving beach chairs with a towel. I strongly suspect that the men who would never sit down to pee are also very rarely the ones who have to clean their own toilets.

My daughter lives in Germany. When she was in Köln she once had a man come up to her and tell her she should smile and be happy and she'd be more attractive. She was also on a train once, sitting in a double facing row seat and had her legs stretched out on the floor. An old guy came up to her and told her "Junge Dame, haben Sie denn keine Manieren? Halten Sie Ihre Füße auf Ihrer eigenen Seite" He was not sitting there (no one else was), her feet were not on the facing seat and there were lots of empty seats on the train. So German men can be rude on occasion. That said she has always felt safe in Germany.

Oh yeah, Germans reserving pool chairs with their towels very early in the morning actually is not only a satiric joke but it´s real and happens in so many variations. Don´t know why many Germans tend to act that way but to me it seems personal uncertainty is one major reason. Interacting with strangers is a hurdle to many.

It’s funny. I think many things are quite similar in the Netherlands, except for the towel thing. Why do Germans presume you can reserve a chair, but until you come back, not use it. Cultural difference! But people just shouting rude sexual things out of the window it’s quite shocking! That shows a complete and utter lack of caring for the woman’s feelings (sounds frightening to me!). Wow!

Ich lasse meinen Einkaufswagen eigentlich nicht aus den Augen. Tue ich es doch einmal, bin ich jedes Mal total ueberrascht, dass er danach immer noch da ist, wo ich ihn abgestellt hatte... :D :D Ich glaube, der Hinweis auf dem WC hat eher den genau gegenteiligen Hintergrund... Die Maenner setzten sich bei diesem WC mit dem Hinweis eben gerade _nicht_ hin... Deswegen extra der Hinweis, dass sie es tun sollen.. Wuerden sie es naemlich tun, braechte es keinen extra Hinweis dazu... ;) Man muss bei Deutschen manchmal "um die Ecke" denken..

I'm German and I'll use a spoon only when the hard boiled egg is hot. Otherwise, I'll do it your way :) Furthermore, I usually eat burgers with my fingers. Because that's what the buns on the top and bottom are for, imho. I'll wash my hands on a regular basis though; maybe that's something other Germans don't tend to do in restaurants.

I'm curious as to how you even managed to stay in Germany after your initial encounter with native Berliner behavior? I mean the bus driver episode? Even many Germans can't endure Berlin exactly because of such toxic behavior. Did you have American friends in Germany so you could find some solace?
