The top 5 worst cheap hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. Thinking of booking a cheap hotel in Las Vegas? You might want to reconsider if it's one of these hotels! Las Vegas has some amazing luxury hotels, and then it is also some really really awful hotels. Based on tripadvisor rankings, I walk through the five worst cheap hotels on the strip.
5. Excalibur Hotel:
$27/night
3.5 Stars with 3,588 Reviews
The Excalibur is big and soulless. The problems are with the size of the hotel, its a giant over 4500 rooms, many rooms have awful views in to the depressing courtyard. Long check-in lines… often waits of 45 minutes The whole hotel has a musty/smoky smell, that you don't get in other Las Vegas Strip hotels.
4. Hooters Hotel
$28/night
3 Stars with 3,646 Reviews
The Hooters hotel is very dated. Looks like it hasn't been kept up since it was built. They could at least do better with cleaning with a facility this run down. It was slightly better than a Motel 6. Starting Advertised room price of $36 become almost $60 at booking checkout the to additional $27 per night as resort fee. This hotel is in desperate need of renovation. The only glimmer of hope was the food and the hospitality staff inside of the Hooters restaurant.
3. Travel Lodge Center Strip

If you're interested in a location in the heart of Las Vegas: this is perfect. If you care about feeling safe, clean room and nice surroundings: the don't stay at the Travel Lodge Las Vegas Center Strip. The windows looked like someone had try to pry them open in the past. I did not feel safe in this hotel. The corners of the hotel inner courtyard were used as urinals by pedestrians of the strip crossing the hotel entrance.

The Travel Lodge Las Vegas hotel has a good location right next to the Circus Circus hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. However, it has nothing else. You get what you pay for so don't be expecting much. The outside stairs coming from downstairs to the second floor smelled like human urine.

Located in the back of the Circus Circus hotel, the Circus Circus manor rooms are extremely old and run down. The place is filthy , the carpet is disgusting . The windows on the doors are dirty filthy. The wallpaper in the halls is peeling off and looks nasty. A step above a homeless shelter. Entire hotel has a wet smell to it.

yes ..now smells like Marijuana... and this comes from the guests. There is a fine to be charged. If the guest smokes inside the room, they are not smoking floors. It has a floor for smokers.

I love the Excalibur! It’s supposed to look old! It’s a medieval castle for goodness sakes! It’s awesome! And lots of places in Vegas smell like marijuana now...lol! Even the Bellagio room hallways smell like pot sometimes! Sheesh! People are too uptight! And if you want a great view, book a room with a view of the strip! It’s really not that hard!

For most cities I would agree but in Vegas I've actually paid that for rooms and had really nice ones (not at those properties though. Ick). I'm not a high roller either, I don't even gamble but still have found amazing deals in the last 10 years for rooms on the Strip and downtown.

Anything with “Manor” in the title has to be a craphole. But for a great hotel experience, try the “Hotel Coral Essex” in Ft. Lauderdale.

I have stayed at Excalibur twice and i have never waited longer than 10mins for check in. Also the rooms were very nice and pillows were amazing

Leon Delgaudio I had a the same experience when I stayed at the Excalibur. My room had the most comfortable bed of any hotel and it was very quiet. I’ll definitely stay at Excalibur in the future

violetshamrock I go every year and it’s getting more and more pricey every time! The drinks are very expensive unless your gambling at a slot or table then you wait forever to order a drink and receive it. Every pool sight we attended has at least $18 drinks for one drink. Where do you suggest to get drinks cheap? We did just get our drinks from Walgreens. Lol but to attend the dance parties at the hotel bars the drinks are not affordable at all.

I have been in this town for a long time, (over thirty years). Hotels here are not overpriced for what you get. I just got back from a road trip starting in Virginia. I can't believe some of the places that offer themselves up as a hotel all across the U.S. And even some lousy motels want a hundred bucks a night. Compared to that Las Vegas is actually a bargain. As far as food goes: all across America, but especially the Midwest, it is beef in various forms, pared with french fry's. Here in Las Vegas I have a choice of literally hundreds of restaurants, all mostly different. I gladly pay a premium for good food. Another thing, I see complaints about over priced drinks. I hardly ever pay for a drink. The moment I sit at a slot machine I get a free drink. Well, I usually tip a buck or so. So, if you know your way around Las Vegas you can live pretty cheaply. Except for that buffet I recently had. That one set me back $75 per. That one I did not think worth the money. Bur I know of one hotel were the price for the buffet includes all the mixed drinks, beer/wine you can handle. If you want to know which one it is shoot me an email webmeister@lasvegasvisitor.com

I first stayed in Vegas in 1989 in a Best Western which was where the Excalibur carpark is now Excalibur was not quite finished then in OCT 1989 so is due for demolition now as we saw it in 2014 and didnt think much of it then.

RESORT FEES are ILLEGAL! Refuse to pay them. I always say “I pre-paid, in-full.” This is a bait and switch. Always pre-pay in full.

That does not work anymore. Paying in full beforehand will still add in the resort fees. This is one of the ways that they Vegas is paying for the T-Mobile arena and Raiders stadium.

I stayed at the Excalibur and actually enjoyed it the room was clean we had good access to the outside world very quickly I don't remember checking in taking any longer than maybe 5 minutes and the greatest part was we had a really good view of New York New York across the way.

I stayed there once for one of the first concerts held at the then-new T-Mobile Arena. I guess I just lucked out with the room because I was fascinated by being able to watch all the busses and trucks pull up the day of. But I really don't like LV and truly did only come for the concert, so even though I had absolutely no issues with the room or the amenities, I'm probably not the most well-rounded reviewer out there.

My question to all those reviewers is ..." Why on earth would you even go and look at a $19 a night hotel/motel?......that's like ordering a .25 cent hamburger and complaining it wasn't all that good. Next time RUN......don't walk, to a brand name hotel and if the rooms are less than $100....walk out. Cheers from Canada North

I would rather spend 19 a night at a motel than to get ripped off spending 300 to 500 a night on a "fancy" hotel just cause of the name or whatever and have way more money in my pockets to do on things in vegas like gamble and shop. Who in there right mind is gonna pay that type of money just to stay in a "upscale" hotel I'm vegas?

@@mizzle2264 I have stayed at some of those fancy $250 and $300/night places, like the Bellagio and the Venetian, but only because my wife, who is a big slots player, can get rooms comped. I'm a small time gambler though, so when I go by myself I don't get any comps, and I have to pay for my room. And there's no way I'd pay that kind of money (even though those places are awesome). That said, there's a happy medium. $19 a night is barely more than what you'd pay for a night at one of those depressing hostels in the disgusting part of town, the type of places where you have a bunk in a room with four or five other people. Like I say, there's a happy medium. I find that I can usually find a decent place close to the strip for maybe $60 or $70 a night. Or better yet, I often will stay a few miles away from the strip, down on Boulder Highway, at a place like Arizona Charlie's or Sam's Town. I can usually find a room at those places fro around $40 a night or so. The only disclaimer there is that you're far from the strip, so you need to rent a car (which I always do no matter where I stay).

People have preferences... if I’m fresh out of college going to Vegas for my 21st birthday, I’d book a shitty hotel to pregame and spend all of my money on the ladies and gambling. If I’m in my late 20s going for a bachelor party, I’d book a suite for my friends and spend money on getting tables at the clubs. If I’m 30 something with wife, I’d book a nice fountain view and spend money on shows. If I’m 40 something there for a meeting/conference, I’d spend the company’s money on a nice room and meals... different people have different desires...

Been living here over 50 years. In the 70s and 80s Las Vegas was the place to come. Eating was cheap and good. Drinks were free if you were gambled. Rooms were reasonable. But today, everyone wants your money, and they’ll get it all!!!! But one thing for sure, it is an exciting place to come. A lot of fun, but you’ll pay for it.

@ t mac I lived there in the 80's, Eastern and Warm Springs was nothing but a stop sign and a 7-11. I remember Eastern out to Henderson curved around a telephone pole. I also remember the Excalibur being built and have photos circa 88 (?) of the lower half built. Sad to see all the development and what the city has turned into. People of today sure missed out on what it was, just like I missed out on what it was in the 50's and 60's.

+studio effects I missed that era too. Of course then the downtown area was the place to go, now it's the place to avoid. Most of the Strip as we know it now, was just a few hotels and a lot of dirt.

I'm surprised you said only the cheap hotels have the hotel fees when they all have them. The Four Seasons, Bellagio, Skylofts At MGM Grand (over $4,000 dollars for a 4 night stay has a $39 a night hotel fee).

Two stays at the Excalibur a few year ago. Perfectly fine for my needs. Never waited more the 10 min to check in. Nice room overlooking the airport. Nice to watch the planes take off and land. Easy access to the other hotels around. You get what you pay for.

I would have to disagree with your evaluation of the Excalibur. Although it looks a little dated, it is relatively clean and well run, and the check in line is on par with what I've experienced at other hotels. I've stayed there about a dozen times myself, and while I wouldn't say it's an AMAZING hotel, it is definitely not in the same category as the Travelodge. I've never known anyone who stays at the Excalibur to have a horror story, whereas there are many other strip hotels I've heard horror stories from (Tropicana for example).

Agreed, we stayed here last year at Excalibur and liked it better than the MGM. Room was clean and staff was great, and the lines were average from what we have seen, it was faster than the line at the MGM, that took us forever. The hotel itself does need to be updated, the carpets look old and needs new paint.

I live in Vegas and you are right on, these are the worst hotels here, along with Circus Circus. Its because its cheap as our nice hotels cost around 150 plus a night. They should blow these hotels up and rebuild.

I stayed at the Excalibur it was a very good stay and the room was beautiful I was on the 27 floor. I’m a truck driver and this place has a large parking area for trucks.

We stayed there to save a little money, but still being able to stay right on the strip. We ended up on the top floor with a strip view. Dirt cheap honestly. The windows pop out really easy so you can actually open the windows in that hotel, which I LOVED. Wasn't no balcony, but felt great getting that fresh air in the room

Excalibur does NOT belong on this list. It's clean, my wait to check in wasn't what he described. I've stayed at 5 different hotels in Vegas and so far Excalibur had the best AC. It's not a 5 star hotel but its a decent affordable option. Its many levels above any of the Travelodges and Circus Circus. About the only downfall of Excalibur is the location. Be prepared to walk. The best tip for hotels in Vegas is: Low-priced attracts ghetto ass people. They take care of nothing and are not clean people.

Why go to Vegas to sleep? If I get a room with a nice girl yes ok 200on a sweet indeed, but if I’m in town and just partying I wanna bathe and sleep and get the fuck up out of the room. Usually that’s what these cheap hotels are for, sluts and sleep.

It's clear the owners of the Travelodges and Motor Lodge are just waiting for the right developer to sell out to, so they let the buildings deteriorate until they get the right offer when the time is right for the developers. My landlord was doing the same thing with my last apartment building.

I'm with you. Excalibur was the first Vegas hotel I stayed in, so it has a special place in my heart. Also the pool area is really great for the price you pay.

Totally agreed. Last time I visited Las Vegas was last September and my family decided to stay in the Luxor because my sister in law and her husband didn't like the Excalibur. She said the rooms were old, food was average and service was not good enough. We paid double for the Luxor just to find the pools were out of service, the rooms looked old, the remote control wasn't working, I called room service twice to have the remote replaced and they would do the room but the remote was never replaced. Long story short, the staff wasn't up to par for the price we paid. We ended up walking to Excalibur's pool and casino, the staff was a lot better than Luxor's and I actually liked the place, it was far from musty, although it definitely would benefit from a new paint job and maybe new carpets here and there.

I never realized how cheap some rooms can be in Vegas. I stayed at the Paris, the last time I went there. It's located right in the middle of the Vegas strip. The room was very nice. Price was very high though. I kept winning at the roulette table while there. So that paid for everything.

I live here in Vegas and the thing you must remember is unlike other cities, there is a steady influx of visitors 365 days a year. Not just weekends or holidays, etc. So when you go to a cheap hotel, remember that you will be there with the families with 5 screaming kids, drug addicts and pushers, street prostitutes, loud drunks, etc. Places with low room rates aren't in it for service, they are in it for money. So they don't put any $$ into maintenance, upgrades, etc. As the room rates go higher you are not only paying for nicer properties, you are paying for better service and better company, to be frank.

For anyone wanting a good Vegas experience and doesn’t mind being off the strip I’d definitely recommend Sunset Station. I’ve stayed there two times and am going back next month and it’s been great every time. It’s just like all your other Vegas hotels with a buffet, restaurants, shops, a bowling alley, I think a movie theatre too, and what not. Really good food at the international buffet, nice staff and what not, rooms are nice and clean. The one downside which is never too big a problem anyways is the location. It’s out in Henderson so you’re a ways off the strip and what not but it’s also nice to be away from all the action, but in a spot where ya still see it from your room. I’m only 16 so I don’t much about the casino other than it looks nice and has that classic over the top, smells like a cigarette Vegas casino feel.

I stayed at Excalibur July 2017. It wasn't great, but it wasn't the worst hotel I've ever seen. The room itself was fine. Clean, in good repair, but I had a nice view of the mountains (and the local In N Out!) and sunsets. The checkin process was pretty easy because I checked in on my phone. Staff was friendly and helpful and brought a mini fridge to my room upon my request. I did find the whole property to be REALLY dated and hokey, the common areas somewhat run-down, and DEAR GOD the entire lobby area stunk to high heaven of cigarette smoke, with a heavy layer of some kind of awful cloying "tropical floral" scented air freshener. I was attending a conference across the street at the MGM Grand, it was an easy walk across the sky bridge. Now...the MGM Grand was pretty awful, too. You had to walk through the giant casino to get to any part of the hotel and it was like running a gauntlet of cigarette smoke. A/C was out in a number of areas of the hotel, including the conference spaces, UGH...no A/C in Las Vegas, in JULY!!! Friends who stayed there reported seeing random people sleeping in the hallways, and Hakkasan, the nightclub, was supposed to be reserved ONLY for our conference attendees (all women), there were a bunch of random creepy guys there and some of the gals got roofied. All in all, Excalibur was a better experience than MGM. And that is SAD.

I really like Excalibur. I have stayed here many times (stayed in February 2020) and enjoy the pool and the theming. The rooms were clean. (Loves the mattress)We stayed on a higher floor and the food court and dragon dungeon was a lot of fun. I think it needs some sprucing up but it’s definitely got a lot of good left to offer if they out money in it.

If you're going to count motels in this list, like the Travelodge and Circus Circus Motor Lodge, how about the Holiday House, known for it's carousel of cheap prostitutes that frequent the parking lot. Or the High Hat Regency, which is sandwiched between a boarded up wedding chapel and the sleaziest strip club in the state (now that Larry's Villa was shut down) Hell, how about the Tropicana? That place is a thousand times worse than the Excalibur. That place should have seen the wrecking ball back when they blew up the Hacienda!

Its certainly changed from the 1980s, when you could get cheap accommodation, cheap food, cheap drinks free cards, hats, mugs, the casinos were fighting for your custom, but now with conventions, they charge you more, with resort tax or car parking fees, stay away and go somewhere nicer ,even the casinos are looking bare with empty spaces.

We stayed at the Venetian hotel the 1st week of july. I had high expectations (bad on my part I guess), but that was quickly dashed upon arrival. We go on vacation every year, but I have to say that this was literally the worst hotel stay I've ever experienced in my entire life. Being a 100%disabled military vet here, I had to order a hover round mobility scooter. Once I got there I was informed that my reservation for a scooter was no where to be found and that all their scooters were gone. As I looked around I saw a ton of obese ppl riding around from slot machine to slot machine on the casino floor. The staff was one of the rudest staff I've ever encountered as I could tell employee moral was seriously low. The pool was closed, restaurants could not take you without a reservation, and the spa was only half open and reservations had to be made 48 hours in advance. No alcohol served unless you were eating a meal with it.

25 years ago I said the Excalibur was beautiful at night when looking at it from my MGM a room. It was so beautiful it looked like a place you would see in heaven. Between the outside lighting and the white building it was gorgeous. When I went in to see the inside I hated the whole casino. It was very ugly and although the casino was somewhat of a new casino it looked as if it was there 20 years. Hated the place never went back. I’ve been to Vegas five time and stayed at a different place each time and loved each and everyone of them. Those casinos were LUXOR, MGM, MIRAGE, TREASURE ISLAND, & GOLDEN NUGGET. All were immaculate with very friendly staff. Las Vegas today has alot of very trashy people all over the strip selling drugs, robbing people, hookers, fights. When I was there on five different occasions there was never once bit of trouble in anyway shape of form. It’s very sad that Las Vegas is getting a bad name because of all the lowlife that are everywhere.

Oh my gosh, each trip to Las Vegas was a treat: New York! Egypt! Paris! Monty Carlo! An island paradise! A pirate’s hideaway destination! Exotic Bali! The Medieval castle! Venice! And, of course, revisit the circus or Caesar’s domain! Then came places like the boring Palms or beautiful-but-seen-it-once-no-need-to-return Wynn. What they’re building now. So much for the adult’s Disneyland. And what landmarks are most often featured in establishing shots of Vegas in movies or TV shows? Yeh, places like The Excalibur. Iconic, distinct & instantaneously recognizable.

No way you put Excal and Hooters on the list and not mention Bally's. Bally's is hell on earth. I love Hooters and Excal, they are awful, but a whole lot of fun, and I stay at them because they are ridiculously cheap ($14 a night on one trip...too funny to pass up). Plain fact, if you think the Bellagio is a really nice hotel (smoke and mirrors), then you are not going to have fun at Excal or Hooters. Figure out what is important for your trip and pick your hotel accordingly. I love drunken madness, so Excal and hooters are perfect for me.

Agree with you on Hooters. Stayed there twice and while I agree the rooms could do with freshening up, you can't argue with the price or location. When I go to Vegas, I spend as little time in the room as possible!

Yup! I've stayed in a the circus circus lodge room before, smelt like ass and body odor. I left the window open for 18+ hours and it didnt ait out at all. Circus circus needs burned down. Worst hotel ever.

I Stayed at the Excalibur hotel in October my first trip to Vegas. The floor I was on was the 3rd floor. The room was decent but no view. The staff was nice and i didn't smell smoke or anything. I had a decent stay there

@@jetcitysinatra7300 I used to live there. Moved in 07 to Lake Tahoe. Tahoe is so beautiful and lots of fun. When I left Vegas they were just cleaning up the Downtown area. I liked Vegas, but nothing compares to Lake Tahoe. I strongly recommend you see it for yourself. The most beautiful place I have ever seen Country setting in the Mountains, very clean old time themed. Very romantic.l. If you go you will be back. Dont buy rooms on line, they will charge over 200. Go there and you will get the same room for 60. Rooms are always available. Very relaxing vibe. Summers and Winters are crowded, Spring and Fall its a ghost town. The Lake is crystal clear and so beautiful. The North End is mote private while the South is more tourist with more to do. If you go rent a car and drive around the lake. The most beautiful drive ever.

@Proximity Symbol I was very fortunate, I have a friend who is extremly wealthy. I was allowed to stay in her home for free as she traveled the World. When she was in town she had a permanent suite at Mountblu Casino, which is now something else. I played poker for a living for 7 years while I was there The house was on top of Kingsbury Grade walking distance to the Boulder lift at Heavenly. I mostly hiked with my wolves and Skiied while up there. Its so beautiful. Defantly not the place to find a job and expect to survive. Its the play ground for the Rich without a doubt. I wish I could afford to live their.

Since you are offering advice to people, in fairness I would like to provide a rebuttal to some of your remarks. First let me say I am not employed at, nor an investor of any of the places you mention in your video. Excalibur was built by Circus Circus in 1990. In MGM's acquisition of most of Circus Circus's properties in the early 2000's, after the economy tanked, it's always been treated like the "red-headed step child" of their properties, that's why they don't care about it. They will milk it for all it's worth, and if the economy is strong for the foreseeable future, they will probably tear it down and build something different. It's actually a pretty cool place, and the location can't be beat. Hooters is actually "off the strip", it was built in 1973 and has flown under the banner of many different names since that time. Its owned by a hotel investment group that probably has no real idea how to run a casino hotel, like so many others that were purchased over the years and failed. Travelodge....the name sums it up right there. If you want the "Vegas" experience, I would pass on a motel chain that I could stay at anywhere else in North America. Circus Circus is also another MGM property that is undervalued by them. In their defense, it's at the northern end of the strip that has suffered from the losses of Stardust, Frontier and the Riviera. They don't have a lot of foot traffic from the other resorts that are now gone. For the simple fact that there is no better place to bring a family, if you choose to bring all the kids with you to Las Vegas. That in itself supports its value to the strip. It was built in 1968 and expanded several times, trying to be all things to all people, and for a long time it has done exactly that, it just needs a little love to restore it to it's former glory. I have a feeling that when the huge expansion to the convention center is completed, it will attract people attending events that bring their kids along. Las Vegas is a "one of a kind" destination, and a completely different world in itself. So, I would like to point out that in general, a lot of visitors come with the "let's party and trash the place", so they don't care about behaving in a respectful manner, as demonstrated by the vandalism, garbage, drug use and heavy drinking. It's all part of what this place is, and yes that aspect of it is a drag. But keeping that in perspective, it will make your visit here a more enjoyable one. ...Just sayin'

#5: Excalibur is great for the cost. Why would you expect a Bellagioesque experience for under $30 a night? Seriously, you get what you pay for. #4: Hooters isn't on the strip so shouldn't be on this list. Also, I believe ALL hotels on the strip have resort fees now. #3: Travelodge is a motel, not a hotel. If you don't know the difference you shouldn't be making these videos. #2: Same as #3. Seriously dude. #1: Can't disagree too much, but I'd hardly say the Manor Motorlodge at Circus Circus is really on the strip.

There are three types of casino/hotels in Vegas. Strip, Off-Strip and Downtown. This has more to do with the type of customer than location. Even though Hooters is technically not on the Strip .. it is still considered a Strip casino. Even the Rio is sort of considered a Strip casino, literally half the casino is dedicated to Strip players and the other half dedicated to local players. You are correct about the Travelodge and the Excalibur was designed by Bill Bennett to be another Circus Circus .. cheap rooms, cheap food and cheap entertainment.

The problem is go anywhere else, other than Vegas and see what $30 a night gets. Most of these places are just milking guests on their former grandeur. Dirty rooms, faulty equipment, broken locks have ZERO excuse for any motel chain. Krist, even the Knights Inn of Detroit is better than this.

Excalibur is actually not a bad hotel. What do people expect for $29 a night plus tax and resort fee? All of the rooms have been renovated within the last decade, you get a casino, bars, restaurants, a pool, and a central location. I've seen inside a friend's room on the 2nd floor and it was nice for the money. I was pleasantly surprised. For the record, I'm someone who will stay in a suite that will cost 30 times this. It is all about expectations and value for price paid.

Man this video of the circus circus brought back bad memories stayed there 12 years ago nothing as changed the smell of the room was putrid. Had to upgrade to the main hotel which was better but not by much.

Around 2015 MGM rained money into the main hotel, tearing out the old carpet and rotten parts. You'll be very happy when you check it again. They also have good food, a nice mall, and a fun (but short duration) roller coaster. But the "Manor" next door - oh yeah, man oh man.

think its a bit unfair about the excalibur,its a medieval theme also to go to a room with a really bad view and try to potray that as typical is unfair. The majority of the rooms have good to decent views and this can be requested at check in or with a tip to the check in agent perhaps. it provides a prime location on the corner of las vegas blvd and tropicana at a reasonable price. although as an mgm property (money grabbing mob) it will have resort fee and parking charge which is the reason I boycott all mgm propertys now

Adriana M I love the old feeling too...Vegas has so much interesting history. Sometimes I would rather stay at a place that has been there awhile instead of the fancy ones. The old Vegas Strip is so much fun too.
