5 Worst things about Port St. Lucie Fl | Moving to Port St Lucie Florida 

I moved to PSL in 2003. There was only about 80,000 people here then. Tradition was citrus and cattle and we could smell the oranges in the spring from our house. It still had a small town feel and I miss that. Tradition was better when it was farm land. It’s too crowded here. Broward , Miami and west palm ruined it.

I just moved to PSL and it is such a relief that it’s more suburban than West Palm. The crime is much lower, auto insurance rate went down significantly, and was able to buy a brand new house under 400k vs. paying that for an older townhouse in Palm Beach county. And no HOA! Something that is very difficult to find in PB county.

I grew up in Port Saint Lucie (north PSL, almost in Ft. Pierce) and honestly...Stuart, Jenson, PSL, FP, and Vero kinda seemed like this giant, seemlees mass where everything bleeds into the other. I found myself in Stuart for doctor appointments and downtown shops, Jenson for swing dance, food, beach, mall....Fort Pierce when I went to school or friends' houses, surfing at the inlet, or helping my dad with his route going to all his customers at the local restaurants. Fort Pierce also has a nice downtown (it's become A LOT nicer than when I was a kid). In the 90s, Fort Pierce used to be a den of gangs, drugs, and prostitution, which made my life interesting...heh, but over time it got cleaned up to the point I could go skating outside in my friend's neighborhood without the legitimate fear that I'd get thrown into someone's car or shot (people used to get shot a lot in some of my friend's neighborhoods)....buuuut that was the 90s and, with a new chief of police and sheriff, we saw some damned good results over the next 10 or so years. One of the downsides is simply how long it takes you to get anywhere. Everything is so spread out and if you don't have a car, you're sunk, because there is virtually no transit. Riding a bike on the side of US1 is not pleasant and I wouldn't recommend it 😂 I did that as a kid all the time and I'm amazed I didn't get mowed over by a truck. I did parades a lot as well, whether it was for school (fife and drum corp, band, MLK day float building, etc.), or something my mom's work was involved in. So, there was a lot of family life stuff going on everywhere. Actually, do they still do the Chili Cook-off at the Fort Pierce civic center? I loved going to that thing and working the Riverside National Bank orange juice stall. We had this frigging giant Orange that was like a pop-up, trailor-hitch serving booth and we'd give out orange juice to everyone. They had art and food and every year it was a different theme. I mean, the giant orange was there every year and we didn't care if it didn't match the theme, because fuck it...it's Florida, and everyone wants orange juice. Oh, and one year I got to be Tinkerbell in the Peter Pan play. Good times.... Oh, and then there is this rural in-between spot going from Ft. Pierce to Okeechobee where I used to ride horses. I also had friends in Okeechobee and my dad also had customers there, so I was there a fair amount, too. Okay, I'll stop rambling and reminiscing about my childhood now. Haha

Very misleading video. I’m a local Realtor. It’s sad to see another Realtor that doesn’t seem to know much about this area, make a video like this. Also, I’m in Tradition and it takes me 20 mins to make it to Jensen Beach.

I prefer Hallandale Beach Florida more just a beautiful city with beautiful beaches and growing businesses and communities.

Not having a beach, who cares? Not having an airport, who cares? Not having a down town, perfect! Down Town areas these days are crime ridden filth such as NY and Philly. People moving to Port St Lucie like us are looking for either 1) affordable housing who may be retiring soon and affordable housing doesn't exist in their state anymore. 2) They are simply selling their house to swap locations 3) Winters are lousy in PA so that's 1 of the reasons we are moving to FL and we still have 20 years left on a mortgage which will not be affordable so cashing out on our property is the only way to survive.

It’s a retirement city. My parents moved there from NYC and all 4 of us kids were all raised in PSL until adults and now all my siblings are back in NYC and haven’t looked back. I’m at 10 years now living nyc

Jensen Beach is 20 min. West Palm is the closest airport- 40 min. PSL is a great place.

I relocated from New York to South Florida /Port St Lucie 20 years ago and I've no idea where half the information and statistics come from in any of these video's you've made. I'm glad those couple of buyers decided not to move to Port St Lucie. more room for the rest of us who are happy here.smh

I am planning to move soon to Port St Lucie. Thank you for this video letting me know the worst things about this area. Now knowing that these are the worst things, I am even more comfortable in moving to Port St Lucie. The only one of the five worst things that caught my attention was the highest property tax in Florida. I am also looking in Palm Beach County and the problem there is the same house is $100,000 more than in Port St Lucie. So the overall cost of housing is considerably lower in Port St Lucie than in Palm Beach County.

I am from Long Island and will be relocating to PSL. Currently I live which should be 15-20 minutes to the beach and 20 minutes to JFK international. In reality with traffic it's about 45 minutes to either location and could be longer. I have been taking the Long Island Railroad to get to JFK just to avoid traffic from rush hour, construction and accidents. I have been to downtown Delray and downtown Boca Raton. It's a disaster there. It's not any better for parking and sometimes it seems worse than NY. I'm almost grateful that PSL doesn't have a downtown spot. We will be living in Riverland with lots of activities. On a side note I never even made it to the beach on Long Island the past 2 summers. Then again summer is only 3 months long here.

We go to Jensen Beach that beach is really nice and downtown Jensen Beach is very nice as well Jammin in Jensen on Thursday night also. Port St Lucie is a great place to live I called it my home for 31 years and I am from upstate New York there is a lot more things to do in West Palm but there is also a lot more traffic and crime I will stick to my little laid-back Port St Lucie and go to a New York Mets game and enjoy the wonderful restaurants.

A lot of these cons were actually pros for me. Good information 👍🏼

Seriously 25 mins from Tradition coming from crosstown Parkway..4 definitely a lot of retirement people but I love living here and I go to the beach every weekend. A city currently upcoming and a lot of money and business to be made here🤫 thanks for the cons. 💯💯💪🏽💪🏽

Moved to PSL in 2008 from NJ. The more folks from up north that don't want to move here is fine with me.

What areas are the best for the least amount of flooding?

Another thing is that you're basically paying to live in tradition almost $500 a month on HOA fees that's pretty high. Also property taxes is another maybe $500 a month before you have a mortgage. Port St Lucie was known as a retirement City and still is.

whats the job market like now 2 years later ?

I moved from Port St Lucie two years ago. I had lived there for nearly 25 years. The town was never meant to be as big as it is. Decent paying jobs are hard to come by unless you travel. Traffic is horrendous. The name itself is misleading, there's no port! I'm happy to be gone from there, and have no plans to even visit anytime soon.

You seem to be really honest of the pro and cons. I am looking at moving to Florida later this year from NYC. (Retirement) not snowbird. Looking at PSL and Ft Lauderdale. Or someplace in-between. Confused right now.

Who needs a “city”. More traffic more accidents. Travel to palm beach if you want restaurants and clubs.

I’d love to move to Port St Lucie to be closer to my in-laws whom I love so much and are about the only family other than my wife and kids that are still alive but We are too young to retire and we would take a huge pay cut. My wife is a Paraprofessional and makes about 28K that would translate to about 20K. I am a Surgical Technician and I work for the highest paid Hospital in NY and I’m at 100K give or take but in Florida(anywhere in Fl), I’d only make about 50K the most. My home here is paid off but our son doesn’t want to move to Florida so we would leave him the NY house. He is special needs but high functioning and can take care of himself but cannot ever get a job that makes enough to pay the taxes, bills, or upkeep of our NY home. We could rent half of our home but we don’t have enough money to renovate and my wife who is traumatized from our other sons death 6 yrs ago and is in therapy, blows thru our savings and gets us into debt for DYI and comfort impulse spending with no intention or sense of urgency to pay her bills. I often have to pull us out. If we move to Florida, we would stand to loose everything because she doesn’t seem to want to stop her unhealthy behavior. So for those reasons, we cannot move to Florida. For now.

Highest property taxes in the state. Bad traffic. So much noise... road noise, hot rods, and endless construction noise that just ruins life. Anyone who buys right now is going to be sitting on a huge loss in 3 years.

Im still sold on PSL, unfortunately, the secret is out lol. Honestly, I would rather rent for 3/4 months and be a snowbird. I dont want the headaches of dealing with hurricane damage etc. Parents went frpm owners to renters in the Spanish Lakes. All the new developments in Port St Lucie have tons of restaurants and amenities! PBI is up and running and is very close. We don't need any more people to come to PSL. There is a lot of traffic and congestion and too much building going on.

I don't care for downtown if that's was for those if someone want a place to leave it's not a big deal people tired of crowded places port Sainte Lucie is ok only the property tax are crazy

You forgot to mention how terrible the traffic is bump it a bumper every single day except Sunday morning. The traffic is just horrendous from east to west to north to south
