Gee a lot of people hating on this man for giving his honest opinion of his car. What’s up with this meanness y’all? Be nice it gets u further in life. I for one thank u for ur thoughts and reviewing ur car as I know nothing about them and I’m looking to possibly buy one.
Pretty good points, if you frequently have rear passengers. I’ll take the loud camera motor over the constantly dirty camera and also having to replace cameras after a few years exposed to the elements. I have the 2018 too, and my biggest complaints are no active battery temp control, and only offering the 35 KWH battery when Krissel built a 50 KWH one a few years ago
Really good points. I am the owner of 15th SEL and a bit frustrated they did not come to the heated steering wheel and rear passenger heaters. However, you can add those as options in custom car shops.
@@DialloKreed congratulations to a nice car. But since you got the first generation, you got a singnificantly smaller battery. The facelift from 2017 on has 50% more battery.
He clearly pointed out that it affects range by wasting energy in the winter. Seems like he wants to drive without the HVAC on. He even showed the 11 mile range drop just running a fan. Everyone knows range drops in the winter even without factoring in the heater. You act like it's some massive '1st World Problem' that he's willing to drive around without the ambient heater on. *"And my wife had D-cup, and?"* Wow, you really couldn't have made a dumber and less relevant point. *" O was referring to the idiotic point made in the vid"* I guess it looks idiotic when idiots strip all context and logic from the point to fluff their egos. And "referring"? No. You _asked_ . Don't get all pissy when someone answers your question instead of addressing whatever secret meaning you want to pretend you meant.
I think it's a fantastic Legacy EV and a great first EV for transitional people who don't need a lot of range and just charge at home after their commute. I do agree and with the wheels and tires looked like the simulation version and the only other comment I have is when you engage Reverse for back up camera, it stays on for about 10 seconds even after you put it back to park or drive. Also incredible bargain of the century right now for a used EV. New $30-$35,000 I picked up a 2016 for $10,500 incredible deal
Your video is spot on. I own the same vw e-gulf. Have been dealing with the climate control issues. Always need to remember to turn off climate control every time I drive.
I'd want the climate control off as a default myself. I usually only have the heat on in the winter to defrost the windows or if it's below 10F. I still have the windows down when it's above 20F. I could live without AC. Really only use AC so the system doesn't cease.
Picky, picky, picky! (Except for # 5 which I agree with.) What about the manual seat adjustments (forward and back)? Also does your E-Golf have cruise control? My 2016 SE model does not. This car has so many advanced features, that I was disappointed that my car did not have those two features. On retrospect, I guess since this is essentially a city-car, maybe there is not much need for cruise control. And someone could argue that electric seats use electricity (!), but it is only for a short time, usually just 1 time when you get into the vehicle, unless you are the only driver, then you probably rarely would use the power seat adjustment, and the motors just add (a little) extra weight.
Bad enough they sold any without cruise control. But worse is that you can't buy the CC upgrade in USA. Believe me I tried to find a way. You can in Europe. It requires a software update from the mothership and VAG can't do it. Sad.
Am I alone in not liking over-sized modern wheels. I have "standard" wheels on my SUV and as a result I never curb them. Was lent a trendy SUV with big wheels when I was having my car serviced and they had already been curbed in spite of it being a new car.
Oversize wheels with super-thin tires look stupid because they are stupid, functionally. Lower range, more expensive to buy, more expensive to mount, way more susceptible to damage. Just hitting a pothole could cost you $hundreds. Maybe marginally better handling but seems their real purpose is to show off that you can afford them.
I've had one for 4 years, a 2016. There are plenty of bugs in the software. There is no way a fan will take away 20 miles range. That's a bug. It looked like it was charged about 90% so 109 would be about right.
Biggest issue with egolf is that it does not have active thermal battery cooling. Without it the battery will have drastic degradation over time. Egolf prototype had active cooling, but unfortunately VW decided to not include it in production model to save on cost.
VW testing revealed they didn't need active thermal battery cooling. Been in the heat of Los Angeles and now the southeast with colder winters and 3 yrs in and the car is doing great. Still able to achieve 125+ on full charge.
@@traceykays433 the ID3 is the soon to be release full electric car from VW. All the new VW electric car range will carry the ID name so far there's 4 vehicles in the range a hatch back, a saloon, a SUV and a relaunch of the VW camper van
You want real problems? How about these 5: 1- No manual backup release handle for either charging port door or the cable itself. 2- Charging port popper is known problem during winter when water freeze behind it, meaning you can't open it without damaging. 3- Charging cable locking solenoid fails very commonly and leave you stuck to the charger you're at (see problem 1) 4- Several known issues with climate control heating circuit valves, expect a bill of several thousand dollars when that goes. 5- Those fancy C-shaped LED get full of water and damaged and cost an arm to replace.
They have a software update to address #1. Let users turn off that automatic 72F. I spent some time with the VW dealer mechanics. They tried everything, but that fix stopped working on 2018 and up models. Older models, this CAN be fixed.
@@DrivenCompanion Yup, I talked to the service desk and even got them to copy the directions and highlight the menu item that doesn't appear to make this change on 2018. We're SOL I'm afraid. On the plus side, I get to feel like a pilot preparing for takeoff when I start up the car :(
I just bought this car and I love it. Its a 2016. Only goes about 60 miles on a charge. Fine I drive it to work and back. Stereo is loud except the volume button is weirded out.
@@elp3035 2 hours. I believe most of these cars are meant for people that have a home. I live in an apartment so I have to go somewhere and charge it. If it's just your daily driver you will save money.
I leave the climate running yr round and the hit is NOT significant (as the guess o meter would have you believe), I can easily get over 125 mile range except in the winter. Love the heated seat, but seriously most cars have only one person in them. Happy not to pay for 3 additiaonal heated seats. Yes heated steering wheels should be standard on all cars. In regards to the wheel, they are different from other cars and I don't see them when driving. Really the back up cam noise bothers you, in 3 yrs it has yet to be a bother. How about the fact there is no tire jack or lug bolt wrench?
BTW, did you figure out a way to limit the charge? Supposed to charge to 80%ish normally, but only way I can figure out how to force the car not to totally top off (and possibly damage longevity on the battery) is to set timers...unless the car is set to automatically avoid topping off? Done some googling, but haven't locked this down.
I haven't tried this or really thought about the issue with topping off. I guess when we are close to full charge we shouldn't plug in - we are about half and half on this now.
@@DrivenCompanion I think you have to set the schedules. I understand it now, but it isn't very intuitive. I've had 164 miles range before, so I guess VW is feeling the need to be extra honest with their quoted 125. I now have it set with departure times, it also means the battery is warm and more efficient right when I head out.
Hasn't been a problem at all. We use it as a commuter in our area and when we go on longer trips we take one of our other cars. We usually only plug in a couple times a week.
A new 2019 SE base model can be had for about $23500 with current incentives, add to that the $7500 federal tax credit and this car becomes a pretty great value proposition.
@@DrivenCompanion I have a 2015 diesel golf, they don't sell the e-golf in my state. Thinking about having 1 shipped here. Any regrets with your purchase?
How is VW with their 100,000 mile battery warranty. That is do they try to get out of it. My 2016 e-Golf is being serviced a few states away and the technology is so new I really don't have an idea what to expect. So far they seem alright but will answer my own question in about a month from now.
@@christiansandmann6155 That's not true, unfortunately. Kreisel just did a prototype for presenting their technology to potential customers but they only sell to manufacturers, not to end users. So the Kreisel e-Golf was just a proof-of-concept but not a product which will hit the market. I just asked them myself a few days ago because of all of these rumors and that was their definite answer :/
Ok, thanks for the video. My comments these are all pretty minor niggles if you ask me. I have lived in the midwest and a heated steering wheel would be nice up there. BTW there is no way a fan that is not heating or cooling can possible use as much energy as a the amount of energy that is consumed in a 15+ mile drive! Therefore VW is lying to you when it subtracts that many miles from your range. This is bad programming, not bad engineering.
Your wrong about the rims. They have way better looking rims. Guess you didn't do a very good job during your car configuration. Keep in mind folks...this e golf is first generation. Just wait and see the next-generation.
@@DrivenCompanion I don't care if I'm located in Antarctica...those rims has to go. Just order the better ones online from the VW site and they will send it to you.
I have had 8 golfs, petrol and diesel, tryd the e golf for two days, better than all my golfs; 2.0;tr diesle 2017,1.5 petrol 2018,on drive, went to order golf for march, to replace 2,0 let diesel THEY DONT MAKE IT ANNY MORE,who the hell wants an id, have you seen one it looks like a bottom of the range fiat, white inside, dump the id and put better batteries in the mk 7.1 golf ,its damnear perfect,
I don't think I've ever driven it over 65 or 70 so not an issue. Our speed limits top out at 65 and there aren't any interstates so 85 would never be an issue for me. Range will take a serious hit if you're driving at those speeds though.
Mike C speed limit is 65 in California too but 80+mph is a daily occurrence lol I’ve been on I-80 doing 80 and highway patrol goes flying past me never got a speeding ticket in my life
That mile gauge is a estimate. It is not real life use. Use must use the actual power remaining gauge on the dash. Go into settings and change temp. Control settings. Your complaints are because you are new to the car. I dont believe based on your complaints you should be driving electric cars, any electric car. Please remain in dinosaur fuel vehicles. P.s. I have driven this car for over 5 years. Great car. No mairence. One minor problem. No past gas car I owned has come close to this car.
Absolute pile of garbage car. Had it for two years and 13k miles, payed $19,000 with interest only get 75 miles on a good day when it was advertised at 90-hwy / 110 city. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR
