Almost 40% Indian youth have minimum career gap of 2-3 years after graduations in India due to govt job preparation, CA exams or CAT exams.Industry should accept this reality. Otherwise large number of population who fail in the highly competitive govt service exams cannot become part of organised workforce and will be lost forever from alternative career. Preparation phase for govt service like Civil service make the person better engaged citizen as well as employee because most of us are a product of one specialized stream , but recent world innovation and market need candidate with multidisciplinary approach of mind for which only a person prepared seriously for UPSC or state civil service can become. Most of the engineers don't know economics and finance and how market works so they don't get integrated with the company easily as company doesn't teach him economics and finance which are the backbone of any company. Similarly , not knowing the sociology , history , philosophy , International relations makes a employee hollow and just like a machine because he doesn't know for what purpose he his working . When there is no strong purpose for hard work , employee faces severe burn out and it affects company operation as attrition level rises due to hollowness in employees life. A commerce graduate should also know technology and new programming skills as rise in automation will force them to study Technology . I have 7 years gap in IT and I don't get any interview calls. The ones I apply are also not calling me after knowing abt gap. They say that they can consider only 2-3 yrs gap.

Rightly said Lokesh! I have come across people in their late 30s with career gap of 8+ years. Age is just a number as long as you have growth mindset and motivation to bounce back in your career. It's also vital to be away from people who spread negativity regarding career gaps. Also, network with those people that have weathered the storm with inspiring stories.

I m 41 having last 4 yrs gap from non IT engineering background and previous experience whether this will help me to get into IT with good package. I am trained in ERP but i am tried many years but not able to getinto as a fresher in that area without putting fake experience but i am not ready to put fake experience.
