You know what, Phil? I thought it was me. I have Merrills because they were so comfortable, but I do spend a lot of time slipping and falling. I really thought it was me. My problem is that I need support and padding, and the Merrills gave me that. Definitely food for thought. Thanks for sharing, Phil.
Hi Phil, it's like saying goodbye to a trusted friend. "These boots are made for walking..." 🎶They've certainly been worth the money you paid for them. If you're starting to slip and slide then it's not worth hanging on to them any longer. Great honest review! 👍😊
Merrell make really good shoes. Had Moab 3's for a few years and they are ideal for the urban trails, woodland and North Downs walking I do. Winter conditions require a heavier boot, but the Moab 3's are good for a lot of my walks.
Well, to be honest, they have been brilliant shoes and I initially bought them for my mountain biking so the grip wasn’t as important. It’s just I found on steep hills they regularly give away 👍
Hi Mr. Olsen Well said. I don't compromise any shoes for the price, but comfort and its grip Congratulations! You found a pair you like. Hope it satisfies your need. Well done, Mr. Olsen/ I recently purchased a pair of water shoes by Astral, costing $150 or so. It did not have as good grip as I anticipated. Later on I heard the claims the quality lowered once China started to manufacture.
Good to hear this honest review Phil, Oo 5 years is good going for shoes that have been walked in a lot but grip is soo important as it can get dangerous. Grip is really important to me too as its scary slipping down mountains ! Loved the location you are at ~ Anna 👍
They look fast these new one phil hahaha 5 year blooming heck that's a good time for a pair of bay city rollers my mate our lass is wanting a pair of these also so mmm yess think I will take here for some enjoy mate
For grip , there are inov8's . Nothing is like them . They die young , but they will never let you down . Great bit of insight . I love shoes , boots and feet . The most techical piece of kit on the body is the human foot . I sometimes walk blind , and ket the feeling of the ground dictate . The feet speak.. they rattle, hum, or sing . I walk with two holly tree sticks . Its like having four legs . Cheers Phil ❤
@@lifesahobby it’s so true regarding the feet. This time round I thought I’d pay what I had to add I just wanted comfy grippy shoes. Not tried the inov8’s but will look them up. Only worn these a couple of times. Regarding grip I can instantly tell the difference. Regarding comfort the jury’s out 🤔👍
Hi Phil 5years is good going for a pair of shoes and the amount you hike! Really wanted to see a montage of you slipping 😂 just imagined it instead especially from past experience and it still chuckled me (Jill 🤭) The Salomon shoes look good we have always had the boots they are good for grip saved me a few times on Crib Goch let us know how you get on with the laces? Salomon have a built in feature where the laces un do themselves 😂 great love/hate storey ❤️
Thanks Nick. Really interesting to hear your feedback on the Salomon. I’ve never had them before so only went on reviews. My first walk was the sugarloaf and I had massive blisters from them. I’ve since night lining socks and they’ve done the trick. I’ve work them twice since and they’ve been great. I walked a mountain in the Elan Valley, which was steep in places and they were amazing grip which really pleased me. The lacing system is new to me so I’ll see how it goes and make a 6 months review 😁❤️ By the way I have loads of slipping videos but I made this whilst I’m away 🙈😢
Will be interesting to see how you get on with the Saloman mate. Grip is crucial and your old boots do look like they have very slippery soles. I need to get some decent walking shoes but I'll probably leave it til Spring now. Great honest review Phil and have a wonderful upcoming weekend mate
@PhilipOlsen11 If you are still there Morgans butchers in Aberystwyth is the best butchers I've ever been to. They do meat and gravy rolls, chips everything. It's always so popular. Devil's brigde is there too, beautiful waterfalls and Nant Syddion Bothy. It has a cool tram ride up the hill too. I'm sure you know all this. It's raining here pretty bad. Hope it's better there👋
@@JamieHarding5 hi mate. Already been there and now going to search out more of the Elan Valley. Went to devils bridge and did the walk down the gorge 👌 We’ve got some friends coming Friday as we head to a different cottage so will try and check out that Bothy - stunning scenery here mate, good as anywhere 👌❤️ P.s. its not raining here but actually quite nice 😁
@PhilipOlsen11 Nice😁👍 I did a vid on nant Syddion you watched before big story of the family all getting sick. The cemetery is close to the beginning of the walk and close to Devils brigde. I went to Elan Valley dams and straight to Lluest Cwmbach Bothy, it's very near the Dam. I didn't stay the night just cooked on the fire there. Mid week both bothies should be empty. Lluest cwmbach is on a beautiful lake. New Quay West Wales is near you. I camped on the beach there's a stunning waterfall that goes straight into the sea. I'll shut up now😂 Have a good one👋❤️
A great review Phil. I look forward to your review of the new shoes after you have used them for a while. I’ve had my walking shoes for a good few years now and probably ready for a new pair. David 📷👍
Thanks, David. Hope you’re well mate? Are you still thinking of going up the Brecon Beacon this month? I’m away in mid Wales till the beginning of September.👍
@@PhilipOlsen11 Yes I’m well thanks, although still dealing with with the so called tradesman who has scammed me. I’m heading off to Wales on Monday with my wife and 15 year old son in the hope to hike up Pen Y Fan on Tuesday with them, weather permitting. Probably only taking a small point and shoot camera or even just the iPhone. We are staying in a village called Felinfach, Brecon, for 3 nights, so hopefully can find a more gentle walk for the second day or the other way round. Are you staying far from Felinfach.
@@DavidLudlowPhotography that’s absolutely awful about the builder, so sorry to hear that 😢 Pen y fan is a really busy route so try and get a bit earlier. We’re probably staying about 1.5 hours away with my wife’s family and our friends otherwise I’d have popped by. There’s plenty of photo opportunities in the town itself and lots of history. Got the Zulu war museum there. I just did a lovely walk along the canal from Brecon town, which is a nice easy walk 👍
Wish i had boots that lasted for 5 years...i have worn scarpa boots for years, if they last 2 years they have done well..might have to invest in those Merrells or Salomons..
i have had deep love for gear before. i get this so much. i wish my shoes would last 5 years! although based off of your tripping talk, maybe they didn't. 😉 and i love that you called them your friends and are saying goodbye to them! do they have names? 😁but tripping is no good, the new ones look good. interested to see how they compare to your moabs. have a great one! 🛴❤
