@Trevor Phillips I don't think I'm comfortable I know I'm comfortable in my house. I've lived with less and I'll keep my house. Those trucks will die beyond repair and he will have to buy another. That's a pretty nice truck I'm not an expert but I would guess 40,000 or so with everything hes added included. Do that twice and you have a decent size home. Do it once and you have some property and a small home. I don't think they are doing it to save money its about the lifestyle for them I think. You live your way and I'll live mine. My opinion..... my way is better.

@Patriot Jefferson Those van lifers weren't van lifers...they were city people with a city mindset and city spending habits traveling in a vehicle. Hitting the road in a class B is a bad idea, first hint they didn't know what they were doing. You can't go off-road in those so you have to stick to more formal campgrounds which cost money. If you are stealth camping in town, you have to move constantly so you use lots of gas or you pay to overnight park. Those people you watched were the wrong folks to base your assumptions on for this lifestyle.

My goal is to always go as minimalist as possible so I can get to hard to reach places. I love living this way in a midsized truck as it allows me the flexibility to tackle really tight trails.

@@sssnipermonkey5566 yep. Long bed is 8ft. You could add a slide out like his and have nearly ten feet. Even the short bed tundra is a 6.4ft bed. Add a slide-out and you’ve got 8 ft or so.

Yeah, I think those folks are just aggressive due to stress or some other factor in their own lives. I really enjoy living this way since my main hobbies are hiking, fly fishing, outdoor photography, and backpacking. Hello Adventures 4YourSoul, had some time this morning and wanted to respond to folks on here asking questions. Hope your day is starting off on a good note. I originally bought this truck in 2005 when I was living in Southern California, it was my surfboard/beach rig. It works great for throwing my shortboards in the back and having 3 friends accompany me to the beach for a session. However if I had to do it over again given the fact I'm now full-timing in this I would definitely go with the access cab, 6 foot bed. I'd still build a slide out extension since 6 feet isn't enough room for me to really stretch out but I think it would be nice to have a 6 foot bed. I'm with you, if they made a full size diesel then I'd make the switch immediately. I could only imagine how much longer those could run compared to what is currently out there. I'm always amazed at stories from other Toyota owners about the longevity of their trucks. BTW - is your Tundra the year where the truck bed has 6 more inches of depth? I'm trying to remember if that's 05, 06, or 07. I met a couple who had one with a high rise topper and the deeper bed. They had a ton of headroom even with a platform bed setup. I love the older Tundras, the new one is a bit bigger but has a really nice look to it.

Hey man! Im just across the border in canada. Trying to get into this... Im used to just tossing a mattress in a passenger van but really looking into making my own 4x4 camping rig. Got lots of great ideas but need some skills (welding, mechanics) to see them realized

I'm a pretty good mechanic so I either find a place where I can do the repairs myself or if its a big job then I have a few shops in the West I trust to get quality work done. Luckily I've not had too many problems. Thanks for watching! ~ Brian

THE GENERAL huh? I’m just speaking in terms of dimensions. If I were to do a build with a truck I’d opt for a crew cab long box or even a regular cab long box would probably even be better

I lived in a Pontiac Firebird for 2 months in the winter time years ago. You can make anything work with a little imagination. I took out the passenger front seat and built a bed from the front to the back. Had a trunk to store stuff out of the way. It was suprisingly comfortable to sleep in. Not somthing i would choose to do, but for an extended trip of maybe a couple months on the road you can make anything work well if you use your head.

@@OffGridBackcountryAdventures i take a stick with at least 3 branches about a foot long each. Stick in ground(like a upside down chicken leg with toes over fire.) Then spread snake on branch .high enough so branch dont burn. Or fried in a pan with crisco.lol😁
