In life there are moments where decisions are made that completely change the direction it takes, 5 and a half years ago it was one of those moments.
I really had no idea what to expect, from Germany I had the basic references that any other non-German person has such as Berlin, Munich, Hamburg or the well-known real Disney castle.
I was completely unaware of the endless shores of the North Sea or the rivers that flowed through the country such as the Rhine, the Moselle or the Elbe.
I also didn't know of its mountains and forests like the Harz or the Black Forest, even less of its incredible lakes such as the Eibsee or Constance.
I had heard about what Octoberfest, but not about its other customs and traditions during different times of the year and in different regions.
Perhaps what surprised me most, was that in addition to its historic cities, there are in every corner of this land, the most picturesque towns and majestic palaces and castles that not even in my best dreams I would have imagined.
Coming from a country with a tropical climate, I was struck by how beautiful spring and fall were. I have admired and suffered winters, and enjoyed summers.
Not only have I got to know more about Germany than the average German has seen, but I have also learned a lot about its culture and values.
I greatly miss my country and especially my family, not only because of the remoteness of living in these parts but because of the difficulty that the pandemic has brought for the past several months to visit, however that decision of more than 5 years ago to change directions and live the experience of being in another world is something that without a doubt it was the right one to do.
