One of the most important and iconic places in the Resident Evil lore is the secret lab located just outside of raccoon city. Today I thought it would be fun to put it under a microscope and see exactly how much went into both it’s creation and it’s destruction. From smelting employees to giant plant monsters, here are 50 facts about the NEST.

Imagine the resources and money it took to make The Nest only to be destroyed by a Rookie Cop and College Student.

Self destruct was an umbrella counter measure for the g virus being taken out of its place. Leon and Claire did not trigger it on purpose.
@thisplatformsucks
@thisplatformsucks Год назад
@@shintenkai1648 Yeah, I was going to say something to this effect too- when a facility houses apocalypse level viruses and other extremely dangerous BOWs, the fact that it can destroy itself so effectively is a very good thing and can hardly be considered a waste- and it definitely wasn't destroyed by Leon and Claire. It's just unfortunate that the outbreak had already happened.

I loved the NEST in the remake, it felt like a crime scene waiting to be discovered, especially finding the security tapes and dead USS officers. You really got to piece together the mystery with tangible evidence and clues to fully realize the outbreak was incidentally perpetrated by the company. That was some damning evidence up in flames! I always get shivers right before I grab the vaccine in Birkin’s lab, because I look up and see where HUNK broke through the ceiling to intercept the deal and think “Yep, this is precisely when and where hell broke loose”

I wanted to add a little easter egg you can see in the original RE2, which happens while doing Leon A. Right after seeing Annette get slammed by the pipe and obtaining the G Virus, when going to the West side you have the cutscene of Ada catching up to you and demanding the sample. BUT, if you stand by the door where the camera angle points at the metal corridor (right after leaving the power core) you can see Ada's model standing above you. It probably is there to load the cutscene, but once I saw it i couldn't unsee it.

It was apart of the newer artstyle. I like the style but have to agree the main atrium was nuts. I remember thinking damn umbrella is advanced for 98. But in corporate America, massive conglomerates have been tunneling underground with big bertha drilling rigs since 1954 maybe earlier if its classified ,so its not that farfetched.

The remake version is one of the most boring lab designs I've ever seen. It looks like it was made by Dr Evil. I half expected to see sharks with laser beams attached on their backs. "But it's made by Umbrella, of course it would look evil" Yeah, that's a good point but still, this was way over the top if you ask me. Especially the bottomless pits. Granted, the original had a bottomless pit too but it was overshadowed by the spectacle that was Plant 43. Meanwhile in the remake, Plant 43 was a garden. Lmao.
@galghoul3042
@galghoul3042 Год назад
I think that's precisely one of the two problems with it. It looks bit too modern for 1998. Edit: the other problem is the lack of security gates.
@KingSlayer-ug4dt
@KingSlayer-ug4dt 10 месяцев назад
@@galghoul3042what are you talking about? its 1998 not 1888,1998 is a modern period.alot of labs since the 50s looked similar to the nest labs lmao. also umbrella is a billion dollar company so they will definitely have tech atleast 50 years ahead of their current decade. if you dont trust me look at ww2 tech especially the Soviets. they had remote control tanks for gods sake!
@asahearts1
@asahearts1 9 месяцев назад
@@KingSlayer-ug4dt Interestingly, drone aircraft have been in use since around world war 1. Yet those same drones looked nothing like the ones we have today. Expecting the aesthetic to be different is totally reasonable, imo. NASA mission control which sent people to the moon sort of fits into the cassette futurism vibe from the original NEST.

Both Dino Crisis 2 and Resident evil 0,1,2 and 3 is so far ahead in terms of enviroment design and concept that I´m to this day getting amazed all over seeing these games. @Hollowdarling
@Hollowdarling Год назад
There's a geography mapped out somewhere online. It all adds up. But you can think of it as a triangle, 3 points. One with the Mansion, one with theTraining Facility from Zero and one with RPD. The Training Facility and RPD dots connect via the lab which is the middle of both dots, while the Mansion one doesnt connect to neither. But the Mansion dot and Training Facility dots exist in the mountains and obviously RPD doesnt. The lab areas you explore in Zero are 100% identical to RE2s lab areas. Training Facility and RPD are far from eachother but you get to NEST lab in Zero via a cable car, so that's why you're able to travel the distance in a short while. The cable car system exists in RE2 but you just dont use it.

1:00 - are you sure the lab we saw in Zero was actually the NEST but not some kind of its clone created with the same blueprint? I mean the contamination in Zero takes place apparently 2 months before RE2.

I wasn't prepared for NSFW plant juices... I never played Outbreak.

A file in Survivor explicitly identifies the plant monster as Ivy.

I always found it funny how modest the Arklay lab is compared to NEST. The Arklay lab is just some small, dingey old lab that looks like it probably wasn't even in the best shape BEFORE the outbreak. Meanwhile NEST is this elaborate Black Mesa or Bond villain-esque place lol. I mean I guess it makes some sense. The Arklay lab IS much older and from a time when Umbrella was new and presumably had less money to spend. Still, why even continue to use Arklay? No wonder it had an outbreak! (Not that the safety record's much better at the other places.)

Everytime playing RE2/Remake I can't help but thinking what's it like to work in the lab. To get to my office I'd have to get to the police station, climb up stairs to the chef's office, walkthrough the secret door, down the stairs, go thru the sewers. God know how many hawllways and corrdidors just to get to the lab entrance. I don't think my legs can last more than 2 weeks. lol

That's probably why Sherry says she doesn't get to see her parents much. Too much hard work going home after work so they just sleep in the bunk room or security room. Being serious though I always assumed they got the train to work (the one Leon/Claire escape on).

Both of you don't realize that's not how you get there at all lol. It's one way of getting there, but not the one they used. You get to the lab easily and quickly via a cable car in the Training Facility from Zero, the cable car is like 3 doors away from the Training Facility entrance. Not much a of walk or effort. The way to get there via RPD, is just a secret way of getting there while also acting as an emergency escape from NEST, while also giving NEST access to Chief Irons and RPDs resources(like having a prison) when they need it.
