I envy his joy. I really can't wait to get my own property and go NUTS. I am looking forward to being like him!!! Meanwhile I work the property I have in raised beds, because we are forbidden to dig.
@@KimberlyBarkdoll sounds like HOA blues. Most of my neighborhood have raised beds, though I have seen yards that it looks like the homeowner threw something outside that germinated.
Kevin - I thought about your dragon fruit when I saw the size of these!! WOWZER!! Do you think yours will ever be that big?!! Mark's got an actual Dragon Fruit TREE!!! REALLY AWESOME MARK!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Maybe you could help organize a group in your location that goes around to gardens and lawns that have fruit and vegetables that cannot be harvested by the owner. We have an organization here that you can contact if you have for example a peach tree that you no longer have the ability to harvest. Then this group comes and takes the harvest to our local food pantry for the homeless. They have a website and a phone that owners can contact them or register their plants and then they go to all the homes registered in that particular neighborhood to harvest the trees. This helps the elderly home owners or busy parents that don’t have the time or ability to harvest their trees get rid of the fruit that will rot an cause bug and bear issues and feed the hungry at the same time. I just wish I had thought of this!!! Lol.
@@AngiesPantry58 I've not looked for it yet - But, I did find the latin name of the plant so we'll all just have search the seed companies! Black Pepper, also known as Peppercorn, Piper nigrum
I love the "wild look" it looks so natural and feels even better for the soul when walking around a garden that has been allowed to self develop to a point
As a new green thumb this is the problem and time delays I have. Is trying to decide how far you plant stuff away. But then I see some people just plant next to each other. But I'm guessing you need to know what will grow next to each other.
I ate some onion to get rid of the garlic breath and now I just have onion breath. My breath now smells like fermented armpit juice, now im going to have to eat garlic again to get rid of it.
I think the banana flower you need to remove that’s my back home parents do. My grandma used to say if u left Banana flower the banana 🍌 fruit not gonna be healthy i mean big.Asian cooking we cook banana flower as stir fry. It’s good for many chronic diseases such a diabetes.
Heya Mark, so very grateful for your tips! Live in Melbourne and our climate isn't so kind, but I'm about to build you hot-house. Took 3 trips to the 'B' store and following your tips. Can't thank you enough. Have just installed 3 raised beds. Thanks so much for helping with my Covid lockdown survival plan! :)
Good heavens Mark! You could feed a good sized village! 😲 Good On Ya! 👍💜 And btw, I've grown other varieties of mint but I'm just crazy about mojito! Don't think I'll bother with anything else! ☺️
I never even had an interest in gardening until I found d this dudes channel acouple weeks ago. And now I have a small raised garden bed with tomatoes, cucumbers and spinach so far. Ty for the inspiration.
I dreamed to have a self sufficient..started slow in my garden but a good start.. you encouraged me @ mark to be self sufficient ..thanks for that inspiration!
amazing! You don't need to go to the market to buy fruits and veggies. How I wish I can manage the diversity of nature like this. Your garden or should I say farm is so huge. I hope Gardening Australia feature you. I'm a fan too of that channel
With the bitter gourd you have to cut it into thin chips and sun dry it completely. Then deep fry it in oil a little bit. Mix the fried gourd with some cut up tomatoes, onions a few chillies and some salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice. Just fantastic!!!
Thanks, Mark!! You are an inspiration, and have been for me for a couple of years now. We have hard soil here, so I have recently been trying to grow in (a lot of) five gallon buckets and commercial potting soil. But a local radio station started promoting (and giving away as contest prizes) the VegePod, made in your country! After reading the reviews, I had to have one, and it arrived two weeks ago. Assembled quickly and easily, and five days in, I'm seeing signs of life!! If this thing works like I suspect it might, there may be another one (or two) in our future for independent gardening!! Stay well, Mate!!
Today i set upmy first raised bed, i made it a box shape to save space . Ty mark i am hoping to get some bell peppers P.S i only like yellow dragon fruit after eating it for years i tried the pink one and white inside, almost vomited
I love gardening not as much as you I don't have the time to do such a large garden but I would love it that would be awesome but watching you I've seen three videos so far and I feel educated and entertained thank you
Your "almost" winter is more summery than our "almost" summer in The Pacific Northwest USA. Very jealous, and ALMOST makes me consider moving to Australia, if it wasn't for all of the killy, bitey things! Absolutely love your videos, thanks for sharing all of the great humor!
Papaya is cooked with sugar , cinnamon and other ingredients and makes a delicious dessert us Caribbeans call DULCE DE PAPAYA .You eat it with fresh cheese, yummy !!
To get rid of bitterness of bitter gourd, you have to slice it julienne style. After cutting, rub it lightly with salt then rinse with hot water, squeeze a bit lightly, rinse again with cold water then it's ready for cooking. Best with sauteed garlic, onion, tomatoes, & egg. You can even add meat such as fish, beef or pork. I normally sautee' it along with pork, it's my favorite.
Still wondering if you're going to do the food challenge thing again this year? Eat from your own garden? You got the coffee, now you just need the milk. :)
Love your videos Mark! I found your channel about a year ago and have since watched every video you have! Food is a very important thing to get right these days given the situation we're in and the control big Ag has over what we get to eat with the careless nature in how it's produced and sold to us with empty nutrients because of poor soil. You helped inspired me to acquire a three acre lot nearby I want to build on and have an awesome veggie garden, fruit trees, quail and chickens to feed my family and share with neighbors. Your family is lucky to have such a great father and husband, keep up the great work! Your channel only ages like fine wine and gets better all the time!
Great video, Mark! As a suggestion, a more acceptable name for that Thai aromatic lime is "makrut lime." It was hard for me to remember at first, but it's gotten easier as more and more people use the uncontroversial native Thai name.
for bitter gourd, we simply chop them into thin slices, fry them until crisp, add salt, some lime juice and eat it with rice and curry. Although the bitterness is still there, I think eating this way with fried bitter gourd and sour from the lime/ lemon juice combo is delicious with rice and curry.
It is much easier to get the juice out of the grapfruit when you cut it center beetwin the top and the bottom, than center from top to bottom, (make the cut horizontally not virtically)
loving your videos! I'm a new subscriber to your channel and want to thank you for all the helpful info you have on growing various crops. I'm new to veggie gardening and I go to your channel instead of google to get my info on how to grow crops! you're a legend mate 👍🏻
I've got 2 apples as well as lemon, lime, ruby grapefruit, Valencia orange and mandarin growing at the top of the Sunny Coast ... along with the feral pumpkin and eggplant 🤪
the garden looks absolutely gorgeous, especially that dragon fruit you cut open. its almost like you got so much going on you're having a hard time maintaining it. its a good problem to have!
You have amazing place that you planting different kind of plant 🪴that can attract on me to watch beautiful 😍 love it I wanna try on my place to do like your 💡
Awesome Mark and so good that I recognised I am growing a lot more than I thought - my Habineros are the size of a child’s fist and still green! Such a healthy little bush full of hot chillies waiting for an unsuspecting possum to taste them! Also have Hungarian wax chillies and the bird’s eye ones for hubby (not me - I cannot eat them). Kent pumpkin, I agree awesome and we got a double season too. Thanks
Wonderful! I'm expanding my container garden this year and trying lots of new plants and techniques, thanks to your informative & helpful vids. Thanks for the inspiration!
I believe the ground nut originates in the americas. Not a peanut(some cultures call peanuts ground nuts), and it makes the tuber like nuts on a long string, looks like a string of beads. That’s about all I know about them, since I haven’t started growing them yet
I'm green with envy. Oh to have a large garden. I'm trying to develop my tiny back yard into a little food forest with garden beds. Have a great harvest.
Really enjoyed this video. There are not that many RU-vid subtropical growers, and it is nice to see what is possible. Going to add these to mine! We are subtropical as well in Houston, TX, U.SA.
"unfortunately we have to compost some" Mate, can I suggest to donate your extras to an organisation which helps people with financial difficulty. I love your programs. Thanks for all the efforts.
Hi Mark, you seem to have a surplus on a few of your citruses, have you thought about fermenting then distilling to make your own fuel? It would be great to see you zoom around on your home made ethanol powered lawnmower!
I dropped a comment not long ago about the garden that you keep, it is so big and there's so much going on in it, that I was wondering how you managed it all. I was also thinking that with all that going on in your garden, that it would be a great place to start a cup of beehives.
